Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Zermatt's Sunnegga funicular railway: replaced in 2 months

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
In a remarkable multiple-shift 2-month engineering project, Zermatt's underground funicular railway (from the town up to Sunnegga) has been fully upgraded. The lift originally opened in 1980, but it replaced a chairlift and preceding lift that dated back to 1942.

The lift shut on 22 April 2013 and reopened on 15 June. In those few weeks, the two trains were removed from the tunnels, the cable and track were replaced and a new motor was installed. Then the two new trains were installed in sections. Preparatory work took place last year. The whole project has cost 12 million Swiss francs. The new trains are longer, with a faster running speed.

An old train, extracted and hauled over the river for disposal/recycling down the valley ...

Switzerland is an expensive place to visit but you do get the best in most of everything.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've always found the Swiss to be very good with civil engineering type projects, I've seen roads damaged in rockfalls repaired and working withing hours (likewise railway lines) when a similar job in the UK might take days, it seems rare for their projects to not come in on time and on budget, shame we can't get them to come to the UK and do some of our stuff
