Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

meh, in my opinion, he's winning races, of course it's good technique. The only way you could conclude he's not skiing with good technique is if you had a bizarrely strict, identikit notion of what good technique "looks" like. I can't speak for anyone else, but when I'm looking at someone I'm teaching I will try to understand why they are not achieving a good outcome. Often, but not exclusively, it's because they are not making effective movements and I try to help them make effective movements, which gives them better tools to achieve good outcomes. I really don't see that it's either/or.

rob@rar, precisely. Lots of people on here and that I ski with obsessively worry about matching exactly that identikit notion of what good technique looks like. That has to come from the instruction they've had. Take the EpicSki forums as an amazing microcosm of that.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

meh, I don't follow Epicski, for that exact reason.

Instruction = provision of a toolkit. Real skiing = application and blending of that toolkit in the circumstances one is in. Good skiing = unconscious application of the toolkit so brain can think about line choice, hazard evaluation etc. Great skiing = maximisation of good skiing.

Translation - hopeless trying to be a great skier without a toolkit but equally won't become great through instruction alone.

meh, I think that's a very goof point. A major problem is that many skiers that I see (as an over-cerebrating passing tourist) have little idea of what their skiing actually looks like Shocked
