Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Pole plants

gatecrasher, If it's on piste and it's only about timing not function, no reason to plant if the person can make that timing in their head. I hope BASI doesn't mark candidates down on it as that would be Form over Function and a repression of personal style wink
Slightly pedantic point: surely timing is function?

The last time I discussed pole plants with a Trainer he said he didn't care if you came down the slope with your hands in your pockets providing you skied it well. He then went on to say that the vast majority of skiers would ski better with a decent pole plant, so anyone who tries the hands-in-the-pockets approach (ie absent or hopeless pole plants) had better be a bloody good skier if they want to pass their exams...

rob@rar, Curses my evil ploy is foiled

Timing is function but the pole plant isn't in this instance -it's just a trigger. Most of us don't have great timing so the crutch of the pole tap is helpful. I'm a loose and scrappy skier so don't really cue in the right way.

Thornyhill, feckin hack - he can't even keep within the basic FIS "rule" of always skiing in control

I thought he was doing a passable job in those clips. Obviously he isn't as good as me. I don't feel I need a pole plant while I am 6ft above the snow at 60 degrees. I generally opt for a prayer.

I can't believe he's a pro I'm so much better than him.

Having skied with a few genuine world class skiers safe to say they wouldn't have to get out of 1st gear to smoke me anywhere on the mountain.
