Risoul webcams which I have been watching all winter show loads of snow, but no lifts moving and no skiers. The season's over. Harrumph! Nothing else. Just thought I would have a moan.

It ain't over, after the 12th (here in Chamonix anyway) it just becomes a bit more effort - I'm in my 9th year of skiing at least once a month - not always in this valley, not even this continent , just takes a little effort.

I'm sticking sail numbers on a new sail. Planning a 3 day hike on the South Downs Way. No need to wish away your lives till next snow season, folks. It's going to be a great summer!

pam w, I'll be dusting off the kayak for a bit of fishing and getting the road bike off the hamster wheel/turbo trainer for some lycra-clad action. No rest for the house elves.

Heavy snow forecast this Friday coming at Cairngorms. Apparently the weather is going to be cold for a bit so jump on the night sleeper and come North!

Serre Chevalier still open till the 28th and Montgenevre.
In fact from here (Serre Che) going up to Montgenevre and then on to Sestrierre today, all be it on the push bike !
Would have been a good morning for ski touring today, first decent freeze / melt conditions for a while, but I need to get some miles and vertical in on the bike.
Though have to wait an hour or two for temps to rise!
As you can see pistes still in good condition all the way back down

No, it isn't over just because your resort lifts are closed. Val Thorens lifts close after the 13th of next month. Go there or start skinning, If you really want to ski don't blame the lift operators - go out and do it. Or at least blame your employers, or your lack of money (though even there it is a choice - or a balance of choices).

Boris, yes exactly. Although for the past three seasons I've managed an additional 3 or 4 day short break too. Unlikely next season sadly.

Sestriere was a ghost town as the resort was shut!
Though a few people had either skinned up or somehow got a lift as there were fresh tracks in the snow that fell over the weekend. Montgenevre, though open was also devoid of people!
Tough ride, for those that are interested Strave track log here http://app.strava.com/activities/50249945

Thanks Pam W, you have reminded me about sail numbers lying behind the bookcase.
Not sure it is quite sailing weather yet, was out in the Forth on Saturday and it was a) 25 knots (out of my comfort zone in a big dinghy and b) COLD!

Over? I need to go back to October 2009 for the last month I didn't turn a ski on snow on CairnGorm Mountain! (Will probably now fall down the stairs and break something for tempting fate like that....)

Patch, I looked at Val Thorens on a Savoie lift pass site and it said:
32 REMONTÉES MÉCANIQUES
4téléskis15télésièges1téléphérique3télécabines
Ouverture
Du 24/11/12 au 12/05/13 : ouvert tous les jours.
Another site with all details of the liftpasses said they were valid to the 19th (which perhaps allows for them to stay open a bit longer).
However Val Thorens main website gave all other liftpass details but no closing date. Where did you get it?
I once stayed in Meribel the week after most of the hotels and chalets closed and their last staff were packing up - and the lifts were still running.
