Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. allanm, Ah right, surprised as at about 12.00 we hit Transarc and it had just closed and so had Grand Renard and everyone was being sent to Arpette which we got on at about 12.30. Blowing one hell of a gale though.

You around tomorrow for coffee. Will PM you my mobile.

Please can anyone recommend a good but reasonably priced mountain restaurant? My lift pass only covers the Les Arcs area. I have visions of sitting on a sun terrace with a cold beer and some food........... bliss!

A great breakable crust day today!!! Tried to get up the Bellecote, but they shut the top gondola so that stopped our plans. Went over the back of Roche de Mio instead, first 300metres were great, fresh snow on top and firm underneath. Then we hit the crusty stuff, which was breakable all the way down to the valley. An interesting trip and good training, but I still cannot ski that stuff very well even after today. Toofy Grin

Went right across La Plagne looking for better snow, found a few odd patches but most was the same off piste so ended up in the omelette's restaurant in the forest above Mont Albert for lunch about 1pm.

Then it started to snow. It was still snowing an hour later when we went to the VE at 3pm and it was still snowing when we got to the top of the transarc at 3.30pm and even more by the time we got to the Altiport at 4pm, no I did not do the waterslide today. By the time we made it to the funicular at 5pm it had been snowing for several hours, light and fresh, off piste short cuts on the way home were fun and so were the pistes as there were not many people about. Not sure I would call it powder as it was still quite wet, even up in Arc 2000 bowl, but most enjoyable after what we skied in the morning. Twisted Evil

Now waiting hopefully for tomorrow and good weather to enjoy the new snow. Very Happy

Clairecf, try the new Mushroom near the Acarbulle in Arc 2000 bowl. Cheapest on the mountain. Also the Altiport near the snowpark above 1600 by the waterslide. Best free entertainment on the mountain.

Clairecf, agree with snowcrazy on the mushroom - but don't buy the chocolate bars - 3.90 is not a good price for a small toblerone!

Arcabulle opened late afternoon and a text from friends up there at about 3:45 dragged us out again ( we were recovering from some fairly severe whiteout experiences) luvverly powder on piste, no one around, visibility ... poor frankly, but good enough to read the terrain, just.

As per fat - still snowing at 10pm at 1950. It's going to be a "no friends" day tomorrow.

Clairecf, we tried the new Mushroom on our last trip.... half a pizza for 5 euros or a baguette for 4 to 5 Euros. We regularly frequent the 'pie huts' for a 3.80 euro portion of pie (tartiflette, quiche etc) which normally sorts you out for until beer time.... there is one in 2000 just off the top end of the Pre St Esprit chair or the Marmottes , or just near the top of the Charmottoger chair above 1800.

For a 10 Euro or so dinner - always check out any resto's Plat Du Jour.... we had a very good one at the the Blanche Muree - also near the Charmottoger chair.

If you go see and think of going to the sunny terrace looking place above Plan Peisey (around the Peisey 66 lift, half way down skiers right) ... it's self service, and the queue can be tedious at lunch times, the burgers are big and a 15Euro burger and chips would happily serve 2.... but I wouldn't per se return there...so I just mention that as i felt robbed ordering two burgers and then me and my wife both only eating about half each!

Clairecf, L'Arpette (just below the Altiport on the Belvedere piste) has a really good self-service cafe - go for the buffet (10 euros), best value meal I've had for ages, on or off the mountain! And the other stuff is nice as well Smile Get there early though, it's very popular...
Btw, the restaurant part (where we ate on our first visit, because I usually prefer the restaurant to the canteen) isn't very good at all, poor service & indifferent food, for which you will pay considerably more. Walk on by & go for the self-service Toofy Grin

Clairecf, having been here all season I think the best place in terms of value for money has to be the bulle cafe (or mushroom,or tit as its sometimes known!!)good cheap pizza served by some fairly hot girls and good music!watch out for the floor tho!it gets unbelievably slippy around lunchtime!!

Great day today, lightly snowing, heavier for short times - visability changing, but all good. Must have been good as I was first lift at Vallandry and nearly last on Arpette for ski home, not like me to do full day!!

Some snow is forecast overnight, but the general concensus, now, is that it won't amount to much. All in all though, the resort has had the 'refresh' it desperately needed. All good fun Very Happy

Had a very lame Tartiflette with stale potatoes at the L'Arpette Restaurant earlier this month. So I wouldn't be returning in a hurry, because for €12 I expect something half decent.

So you've be warned. Although the place does seem to do a roaring trade and is in a good location.

So tired. Last one still up in the apartment Laughing Laughing

Morning over in 1600, lovely fresh snow, then pottered about under Arpette and decided to have an early lunch in 2000. As soon as we got back into bowl around noon it started snowing heavy in 2000. Went back out around 2pm and went across to Peisey from Transarc, complete whiteout, cloud, fog whatever you want to call it, it was awful. Awful that was until we hit the trees over Peisey, absolutely lovely. However high up over Pesiey it as cloudy and snowing heavy. Decided to make our way back towards 2000 just in case lifts got closed. Moved the other of Transarc to Arc 1800 and the sun was shining Shocked Laughing . Played under Vagere for an hour. Went back into 2000 bowl at 4.30pm where a blizzard was still blowing. Lanchettes had been closed since noon. Still snowing lightly in 2000.

Plan for tomorrow is maybe get across to Montalbert but like all good plans it is there to be broken Toofy Grin

Ski testing great fun, though not sure if I can tell the difference between the 4 pairs I have tried. Wife did try the 'Zai Tilas' (google them for a laugh) this afternoon. Not worth the money she said (TFFT Shocked ). Somethings called 'Lotta Luvs?' seem to be winning for her at the moment. Me...I'm just grateful for the conditions.

thefatcontroller, "lotta luvs" in evidence with MrsW and friend, but despite total lurve for them from the ladies, they are at least 3 seasons old - not what YOU ( and as I'm sure she who would prefer to be known as theslimcontroller wink) want, surely?

Popped over to La Plagne this pm: whilst primarily whiteout conditions there were the odd viewpoints, and was a good ski nevertheless. With a lot of powder in evidence and fun in the trees above Monchavin - albeit slushy to the village Keep an eye on those VE opeing times, it may notlast much longer

Back in Plan Pesiey seemed to clear the clouds, but also the snowfall. However, as everyone agrees, over the top to the 2000 bowl, and whammo - "good night Vienna" when it came to visibility.

But having a great time, and " A demain", as they say.

hello les Arcers-

will be telemarking in Peisey from Sunday- as before I'm an easy spot- fat ,asian telemarker- red patagonia jacket, black helmet concealing bald head, stopping and looking puffed everynowandagain, wife and variable number of kids. Possibly grumbling loudly about the price of cheese based dishes.

ed123, do they do fat telemarks? - we've had quite a bit of snow these past couple of days, and they might be useful...

Still snowing in 1950, which makes it from 7:30 when we got up until 12:45, although just beginning to ease up - but not stop. On piste fluffy stufff has now covered any remaining ice and rocks ( well, at least in the 2000 valley where we were this morning) and all is well with the world. probably estimate about 20-25 cms this morning alone.

Going for Malgovert again this afternoon ( ski school keeps taking smallW there, and she loves it. Kids eh?!) thence to the trees by Mont Blanc. Possibly not avy cords, but will be taking powder traces. wink

So tired. Left on first lift and it was awful (poor visibility and snowing) until we hit trees above Peisey. So much powder on piste, it was heaven. Across on Vanoise to La Plagne and brutally cold there until about 11.30am. Frighteningly cold Skullie Skullie . Aimed for Montalbert but got bored (so many slow chairs in La Plagne) and hungry around La Roche and popped down to La Roche for lunch in that lovely restaurant at the bottom of the piste.

Then head back to Les Arcs and 2000 bowl. Fought our way through the flat light in the bowl to apartment. Friends stayed out in the powder but me and wife went shopping in 1950 for a laugh. Particularly liked the shop that sells clothes that makes you look like a Russian hooker.

Of home in the morning. More snow on the way and place in great shape for the Easter crowds. Very quiet this week in Les Arcs, La Plagne was busier but overall quiet.

Today... was what skiing is all about.
Off-piste day, all day with a small group of great skiers.
First lift at Vallandry was deserted.. hardly anyone, the whole place up to lunchtime was pretty quiet with many of those that did venture out struggling with the overnight snow 'on-piste'.

Did most of the 'secrets' of Les Arcs today most in fairly deep powder - yup it was definateley powder, we agreed unanimously.

Only piste we 'skied' was 'M' - a skiing playground. Fantastic.

What a day!!

Visability was a bit in and out, sun struggled to appear a few times, but most of the day was OK, especially after midday.
Did have one incident, 'one of us' skied off a wind-lip just above the Transarc mid-station (skiing under the Transarc) probably fell 15-20 feet, but climbed out and skied down 'that' face, I bottled out and traversed back round, but when saw his tracks, wished I hadn't.

allanm, sorry but just have to comment, where are all these "Did most of the 'secrets' of Les Arcs today most in fairly deep powder" REALLY?????? Enough said!!!!!!

However allanm, was right about one thing! Toofy Grin Today was one of those days you live for if you are into deep and steep snowHead

Started not to early in white out in the trees and then moved over to Arc 2000 bowl as the light improved. Then the day just got better and better. Found so much deep powder I was in paradise. Yes it really was powder this time, at least in the more sheltered areas and on 1st April. The deckchair man got it right yesterday, as did a few others that were confident the snow would really come this time. Not 10cm but nearer 30cm. WOW Toofy Grin

You could see where you were going just and no tracks almost everywhere we went. After a few runs down into the 2000 bowl went up and over the back into powder that was up to your waist. Had to be really careful as the top layer was very loose and can slip easily in these conditions. Met a couple of locals that nearly sent an avalanche down on us, not fun and we had words Evil or Very Mad

Then back up top and down though the forest to the bottom of comborciere, again good powder but getting heavier as the day got later. Finally played around malgovert, deux tetes and the forest down to Arc 1600 before a well earned drink at the altiport and home. And tomorrow they say the sun will shine Toofy Grin

Loads of pics of the last few days with all this new amazing snow over on my facebook page. Go take a look. Well by tomorrow evening anyway. Very Happy

So, missed malgovert, but did Deux Tetes twice, it was so much fun, then three times through the trees besides Mont Blanc.

But it is now official: the minis and smalls can ski everything I can, and do more in some areas. So apart from paying for the damn trips, I am now officially redundant. Albeit a proud father.

4 small avalanche debris piles on Edleweiss in the 2000 bowl causing disruption on the way home. Apparently smallW 's ski school class this morning were caught either side of one of the spills as it happened - with two class mates having to ski over the rubble to catch up the rest of them. A tad worrying to hear the story over lunch, but apparently not to those recounting it. Youth eh? But it was somewhat disconcerting in the flat light to find these four new 'steps' in an otherwise flat road run.

Be careful out there folks.

Meanwhile... say again which shop it is I need to buy my Tuesday-night party frock in?

Sorry to be ambiguous, by 'secrets' all I meant was the places, within the resort that most people don't know, or go... nothing untoward... didn't mean to mislead anyone, sincere applogies to all if I inadvertantly have.

Back home, amazing few days break with the most bizarre set of weather you could have had in 4 days. 10c+ on the Glacier in Les Arcs Monday and the feeling we would die of cold on a chair in La Plagne Thursday and 3 days of near continuous snow in Arc 2000. Is there a better feeling than your first run of the day being deep in powder on piste.
