Hello - in Les Arcs/ Peisey from 4th April- since I am the only fat, balding, 40+ year old, asian telemarker in the known world I am an easy spot. I'd be pleased to ski with any snowheads if my family commitments allow.

Out to Peisey on the 3rd April -can't wait. After the rain of a week ago we were getting worried but the snow of today and the forecasts of more next week combined with a drop in temps are both very welcome developments from the weather gods

unbelievable day up there. Im based down in villaroger and the conditions our side of the mountain were unbelievable. I wasnt sure what to expect as we went up violettes but due to the fact that lanchette was closed (links 2000 to the villaroger side) there was no-one and I mean no-one to be seen! So fresh untracked powder ON THE PISTES was everywhere which I have never experienced! We skied it a couple of times and made fresh tracks on both occasions! It was a shame work had to stop some of the playing!!

Not arriving till tomorrow evening but some friends arrived at the apartment in 2000 this morning, they say conditions are amazing with fantastic snow to low last night. One skied across to Arc 2000 this morning from Champney as he was in Courcheval last week. Says conditions La Plagne side great to. Can't wait to get out there tomorrow.

Well... what a fantastic end to another week.. and it's still snowing!!
First lift (Vallandry) this morning, fresh tracks back down to Grizzly, and the first two pairs of tracks from the top.. need to work on the turns though.. looking back!!
Played on piste for an hour or so, then a little more adventurous, no one had been off the back of the Derby into the bowls below, little hike at the end was well worth putting tracks down in there. Played around there for a while, and where the second picture above was taken (Nr Derby) and under the Transarc.
Decided to go up Grand Col, but on the way up the Transarc, noticed virtually no tracks in the main (skiable) big bowl. Did that a couple of times, once each side of the 'mound in the middle'. Took the lower 'exit' run out second time, but had to hike out the end, as did the one boarder who beat us to that one.. looking at the 'mess' in the snow, he had a bigger problem than we did (:>). Didn't make the Grand Col, weather broke, had lunch at L'Arpette (don't think that is as good as last season) and skied back to Vallandry relying on right and left piste poles being marked differently.
For me.. this is what skiing is all about... Magic.
Anyone coming out this week is in for a real treat...
Soz, no pics today, did have camera, but not the time

Hello peeps
Made it to 1950, just: - the snow fall was / is good, so good that a tour bus skidded across the road on the hairpin just below 1950 ( by the basher station) blocking the whole thing up and down - about 400 yds to go. Our taxi from BsM assumed that all the cars queued up were putting chains on (about 40 of them), so he drove around them. To the front of the Q...
Took them about 15 more minutes to clear it enough that cars could pass - and we were now first to go. If I were to say I hung my head in shame would you believe me? - no thought not!
Looking good: still coming down, as has been all day according to those who've been here - early start tomorrow, what with clock change and cet, so off to land of nod now.

livetoski, We skied back down to the Grizzly, you skied to Derby.. between us we got some first tracks!! Great to ski with you the other day, BTW.
Today....., simply amazing, best day, snow-wise of my season. Lots of Brits in today, but they obviously don't know the resort, as few of the less obvious places (that I went) had very few tracks, even later on this afternoon. I didn't venture any further than 1800, there was no need to, 'bottomless' powder everywhere.
Tried some fat skis today which gave me some confidence to go a bit quicker, but after trying a pair which were like a pair of steel reinforced concrete planks I returned to my bandits. Amazingly, after the confidence given by the first couple of pairs, I skied them OK, no tip diving, just great fun.
Visability was a bit on/off, just a little sun today - but fine.
Great day....

JimW, Hi good to hear you made it out ok in that weather. See you in George's tomorrow after skiing maybe.
Just returned to Les Arcs having spent a few days in the Three Valleys, had mixed snow similar to Les Arcs, the powder of the last few days in the Three Valleys was great in the mornings but the weather closed in later and in the afternoons it was quite bad although the snow was still great. Well worth a visit to either Espace Killy where I was earlier in the week or the Three Valleys for anyone that has the day extention with there weeks ski pass.
Will report about Les Arcs tomorrow after a ski around the area. I did just hear from those having a beer that although ok in the morning it was very heavy by the afternoon and all the snow has now gone from the valley floor which means that it is warming up fast. When they open the tops we hope tomorrow it should be fun, loads of untracked snow to play in. Snow level now about 1300m and moving higher as it melts.

Sun came out late morning and then proved to be quite warm, put suntan lotion on my arms at lunch at Chalet Arc (just up from Vager lift). Didn't eat myself (couple of demis & snacks from rucksack) due to silly prices, but service was quick, and overall people in the group (SCGB) seemed to be fairly happy with the food.
Funny day... we didn't really do much, pretty laid back, but suited me, as knackered from last few days. Snow higher up was quite nice, but end of day ski down to Vallandry was just horrible slush (snowcrazy please feel free to correct me if slush is not the correct technical term). BTW.... snowcrazy, Good to see you this morning and letting me know the error of my ways.... must stop posting rubbish.. must stop posting rubbish.. 1000 times.....must stop posting rubbish..

pam w, I must revise my use of the english language and learn to use brackets and commas correctly... My sincere appologies if I conjured up the image of me eating myself, but no... I am all still here, so that was not the case. The place was so %$£$ expensive, I abstained from food, just having a beer (or two) and snacks from my rucksack.

Arrived last night and in true fatcontroller style we headed over on the Vanoise to La Plagne this morning. Spent till lunchtime up by Roche Del Mio. Sun came out about 11am it was glorious. Lunch in Le Sauget (Yum rabbit) and then back into Les Arcs, finishing up on the Glacier about 4pm. Wife tried Sastski, her battery gave out by lunchtime as GPS polling so much but think by then we had covered over 40km? Anyway my type of day, we used our Paradski passes to full extent.
Very warm in the afternoon and soft down low and it was slushy shoite in parts but still beats work any day of the week. Forecast is colder and snow during rest of week. Tomorrow we are doing Les Arcs for day. Not sure where, we might go exploring.

allanm, good to see you this morning as well. 'Slush' is exactly what I would call it lower down in the afternoon as well. But oh what a day
After all the chat about slushy wet snow, what a great surprise this morning was. Started overcast but quickly brightened up and with all the top lifts open it was straight to the Varet for a warm up on the Robert Blanc face Natur ride area. Waiting for the AR lift to open.
Then up the AR cable-car and down the coulior to the right and all the way down through the soft fluffy snow (not quite powder) to the Blue piste far below and a quick rest at the Mushroom piste Bar.
Off again, this time down the Petit Nord Face and then the Robert Blanc Coulior to the varet again. Over to the Grand Col for more soft untracked snow on the sheltered side away from the piste, although by 2pm it was starting to get heavy again coming onto the piste. Kept going until about 3pm and finished at the water-slide by the Altiport (still dry), then to George's Wine Bar for a cool beer.
I will try to load the pics later of these routes. Great snow for this time of year, but you do need to finish your best skiing by 2pm if you want to save your knees. The snow was very heavy by the time I finished. Now waiting for the next dump they say is on it's way.
For those in Vallandry a question. Is it possible to have ski group lessons for children aged 4 - 6 with any of the schools. Met some parents today and they told me they had tried but with know luck. In Arc 1800 and even Arc 2000/1950 I believe they have special classes for that age. Is there anything over your way?

genepi, thanks for that, they say they tried New gen and they were told they only do private lessons for that age group, same story with Evo 2.
Anyone know what the ESF or other ski schools around offer.
Boredsurfing, I heard that about the glacier as well. But what we did in les Arcs was as good as anything on the bellecote today at least in my view I think. If the weather holds out we plan to go there tomorrow as Les Arcs gets tracked out more quickly.

NewGen in Vallandry don't do group lessons for under-6s. I think it's because they don't have access to a snow garden for the little ones, and I suspect there's not enough demand outside of school holiday weeks.

Hard mornings skiing, did Arc 2000, down to 1600 back into 2000 bowl and then Peisey side. Weather began to close in so headed back to 2000. Transarc was closed and now huge blizzard blowing through 2000. Huge lunch just eaten and no great enthusiasm for going back out in this blizzard. Shall give it an hour.

rob@rar, well i shadowed with NewGen a few weeks ago and we had a group of 4 year olds. Apparently the vallandry guys were not too happy with the head office for taking the booking as like you said they are just not equipped for children of that age. (no rope tows etc). I think the ESF do take younger groups but they are notorious for being extremeley regimental and not too "soft" with beginner children. They also take huge groups so individual learning is somewhat diluted. I saw an ESF instructor a couple of weeks ago during the french half term with 17 kids skiing behind him!!!
Are you still doing your shadowing Rob? Is this towards your level 1 or 2 BASI?
