snowcrazy, we are over in Peisey, met up with Allanm yesterday for a first day blast around, turned out to be a fun day even if it was a little damp!!!!! in the morning, young snowshepherd took out the Movement Super Turbo's to say they got noticed would be an understatement, the skis handled the piste which for a 120 super fat at 202cm long was quite incredible to see. off piste in the very wet heavey snow they just floated above it.
snowcrazy give us a text my number is on my web site if you are out today, think we are doing another blast around day and a few movies if the sun is out of the new skis

snowcrazy, Sorry not to meet up last week but we were too busy enjoying the sunshine and snow. Typically not getting back to 1950 till 5:00 or 5:30, then something of a rush for showers and tidy up before catching the end of happy hour in Belle Pintes a bit before 6:30.
Some of your pictures (first and second on part 2) look like the Col de Lanchettes off piste route. Correct? Went down there a couple of times myself during last week, and enjoyed it immensely. The couloir accessed by dropping right off the Robert Blanc black was also good - smooth and just plain fun. Didn't enjoy the Flying K though; the moguls were just too big and hard work to get a rythmn going.
Pity I missed the water splash, didn't know it had been set up. Would have liked to see people having a go. How fast do you need to be going to get across, or is it technique rather than speed?

O dear, "no Off piste" had a very good time off piste fresh tracks!! up on the Grand Col, on the safe side, as we were going up on the GC lift the top section on the left was starting to slip we all thought it was going to go and we were about to see a huge avi from the lift, but it just fizzled out after a few seconds.
hope you had a good evening

livetoski, sorry only just read this, how long are you around for, would to be good to meet up later in the week.
jmdohanlon, yes pity we did not meet up, as you say the weather was great. If you are around again do pop down to Goerge's Wine bar for apree ski, it is better than the Bell p., at least in my book.
So as not to lead people to try stuff without a guide and then later get the blame I never say exactly where I take the pics, but all are good routes with minimal walking. Please PM me with any questions.
Today was another mixed day, morning started very well and the snow high up even later during lunch time was very good. As livetoski, says, the off piste on Grand col was great and seems very stable, near to the piste where we stayed at least. The snow at the top of AR on the glacier was great. The off piste area is safe from avalanche if you choose a good route, so nice and safe to play in.
Later in the day we went down for the water slide again, might as well do it when you are skiing in the rain anyway. Tick number two and still dry Others chickened out again, very sad. And yes genepi, to much speed can be as bad as to little. A quick turn to reduce the splash before dropping in always helps.
Yesterday there was an avalanche which crossed the piste where edelweiss and Lac meet. The papers say 5 were buried, but a witness tells me it was only two and they were not really buried only a little covered. The others barely got there skis covered, but I guess that still counts. Nobody really knows how it started but I also note they say a boarder might have started it. Those I spoke with seem to think it was most likely natural due to the rain.
Today there were a few small ones crossing the piste on the way down to lac but they were watched carefully by the pisteurs. All pistes down from Arpette to Arc 2000 were closed by about 4.30pm ish due to the risk of more slides. There was a second slide on Bois de l'ours later this afternoon under the avalanche barriers. Due to the angle of this slope, the direction it faces and the rain we have been getting, it is easily overloaded and slips so best to keep away.
Despite these worries conditions are still pity good with regards to snow depth and the way most pistes are standing up to the wet conditions. With colder temps forecast in a couple of days and even a bit of snow maybe later in the week. Those coming out for Easter have plenty to enjoy and for the younger people, the snow park is great still with lots of jumps to throw yourself off.
So let's be positive and think on the bright side, as one of those with me today said, it is still better than being in the office

There's a real party / holiday atomosphere now - cracking 'apres' and entertainment from the likes of the Altiport during the day. Great company, absolutely magic!! Seem to be using the Barking Mad and Flying Squirrel a bit more, they're both great, friendly places, and a such a laugh!!
Pisteurs, guides and locals have been heard to say that off-piste is 'Russian roulett' at the moment, so personally abstaining from that. Apparently, yesterday, the likes of Bellecote were 'OK' but today, a no-go area if you have any sense - avalanches, the many closed runs and pictures, IMHO, speak for themselves. Some locals whom I've been chatting to during the course of the day are saying, personally, they are treating the avalanche risk today as 5.
Couple of snaps....We're still trying to identify this boarder.....
And a couple more from today..

Cracking day today, great company, ventured a little off piste this afternoon, but the sight of so many broken trees is still putting me off a little.. Found some untracked (wind-filled) which was nice.
Hurtle, Yes Bois De L'ours.
Malgovert.. alternative route out - icy and horrible.

Just returned from Les Arcs... a good long weekend with the 7 other lads. Had loads of fun throwing ourselves off the kicker into the Airbag... well worth a go for a laugh. The snowpark is great.... plenty of jumps, boxes and the wall to have a go at - something for all to try.
snowcrazy, saw that avalanche off the Lac, it had knocked down a number of trees - didn't realise it had actually hit anyone.
Despite the 'damp' conditions, we had plenty of fun. The pistes were generally in good condition - not much rocks coming through. But certainly lower down there were some larger bare patches appearing (Morey into Vallandry and Cachette into 1600) - but nothing at this stage that can't be avoided.

Richie_S, I agree the park is great, loads of fun for everyone. Did you try the waterslide, I hope so
Have been up in Tignes for a few days taking in some of the better tours and up high. Much as it hurts me to admit it, the snow right now is better up there as most runs are above 2000m. But when the flat light came later today, they do not have many trees so I still think I prefer Les Arcs in the end.
livetoski, might be up tomorrow if the weather is ok, otherwise may well miss you this time round as am busy friday.
Timberwolf, see you when yo get here. send me a pm so we can meet up.

snowcrazy, no 'fraid I didn't do the waterslide.. (not quite sure why not, as got wet enough over the weekend in the rain, and on the airbag (which even on Tuesday in the warm was wet from snow being deposited on it!) - Thou, I might say I have done one in the past and made it across - so I guess I shouldn't push my luck!

moffatross, I bow to your superior knowledge as I didn't have the map you have and I read very few posts (maybe I missed the context?), all I have is the view of Bois from the balcony of the apartment I own in Arc 2000 and the knowledge that the view of Comborciere is just to my right as well and the ski to it is a very short ski from the bottom of Bois. On that basis I couldn't figure out how you saw the 2 runs as being in 'entirely different areas and different side of the mountain'? Feel free to argue away but all I can go on is what I see? Anyway these conversations are the reasons I hate snowheads and regret bitterly even posting but in fairness to those interested I will post snow updates when we are out there next week.

I think you will find the title of this thread is "Snow Reports" and not a geographical test of where one lift is in relation to another in the area! Who gives a f**k I mean really? Get a piste map out and get over it!
Went out today (seasonaire here) and probably encountered the worst conditions of the season unfortunately so I thought I should post. Headed from villaroger and came down the aguille rouge which was in pretty good nick considering but most people had decided that was the place to be at 10am so it was busy and probably in no condition come 2pm! From there down to pre st esprit and up the combociere which was fairly quiet. Down the malgovert run which was really good fun if you enjoy the bumps (off piste non existent). Then up the cachette lift to come down arolles which for me was the run of the day. No one on it and the snow if a little slushy was great fun and not a hint of "sticky ski" all the way down! Conditions around 1600 were hard work which was predictable.
Ventured a little off piste around the reservoir area near 2000 but I think we hit it at the wrong time as it would have been great if the sun had been on it for an hour or so but fun none the less.
All in all the snow isnt too bad but you have to hit the right areas at exactly the right times!! More snow (and heavier) forecast for tomorrow around 2000m and decreasing down to 800m in the afternoon so good snow should hit over the weekend!

They said the weather would be bad today, well they were wrong again. Yes it was windy up top so when we tried to get on the Bellecote gondola in La Plagne, we just arrived as they shut the glacier, but never mind we still found some good spring snow in other spots.
For those thinking of going over the other side these are the places we found the best snow. Went from the top of Roche de Moi to Le Tounge area, out of the wind some places were very good. Then over into the Verdons Nord area and more good snow. Finally Le Biolley then down for lunch in the forest above Mont Albert.
Tried to beat my old time back to the VE but failed. Will do it again next week. Must say that most pistes as we crossed over La Plagne and back today were in great condition considering all the wet weather and NO queues. They have also had many slides near or over some pistes but all seemed safe today.
Over in Les Arcs we went from 1600 to the VE in the morning very quickly. Came back about 4pm and headed for the waterslide. On the way back played around off the Derby down to Arc 1800, like in La Plagne when one considers how wet it has been, the pistes and off pistes we played in were OK. From the top of Vagere over to the Altiport and then later from the top of Clocheret all the way down to Arc 1600 was good at that time of day as well. Firm underneath with a slushy easy to push about top layer. What we now need is more snow and colder temps.
Loads of people at the waterslide, I am still dry haha!! Come on all you snowheads that are out already or coming out for Easter, have a go it is fun, honest!!!!
GMX Kids skicross champs on 28th in Arc 1800 plus ESF open slalom challenge so expect the lifts round there to be very busy. Both comps are open to anyone that is good enough so sign up quick (might be to late, sorry do not no).
Off to Three vallleys so hope others will post about the storm they say is coming and all the snow??????? (they say 25cm by sunday, we will see).
Black day for the roads this weekend so expect delays getting into resort. Plus maybe snow on the roads if it really comes.

Went over to la Plagne today... best pisted run was L'Aigle back in LA. Had a slight mishap over in la Plagne though.. found some nice snow.. cracked on... lower and lower, realised we were pretty trapped.. the options were through trees in three feet of soft snow which with my skis (soz.. abilty) was a non-starter, or hike / sideslip up a steep face back to a piste... an hour or so later, I got my breath back. he he, said to my 'partner' half way up, 'You're cursing me for this...aren't you' she replied in no uncertain terms.. 'NO, I'm saving my energy to get out of here!' .. Mmm worrying, but I'm writing this and she's sat next to me.

allanm, dear dear dear, oh well at least you did not push lots of snow down onto a rope tow. Pleased you made it out ok. By the way the invitation is still open to join us for some skiing anytime. Just drop me a PM, email or call me if you want to come out.
That has reminded me of a sad sight I saw today, someone in a 'Green Jacket' (will remain nameless leading and English group) but did not know where he was going leading his group, started down a steep slope above the rope tow getting back from top of arpette to la cloche side. he must have come off the chair higher up. We could all see it would slide and there were rocks and grass exposed, but he kept coming and it slid taking him with it a few metre onto the pisted track, one ski off. A very very lucky boy. Could have been a broken leg or worse and the slide did not hit anyone or that could have turned into a major problem.
He really should have known where he was going before he tried that. At least most of his group did not follow him down and the one that did turned back. A lesson for everyone, be sure you know the route before you try it. In current conditions that is even more important. Stay safe!!

It's Snowing!!
Went up first lift with only a teeshirt under shell, no goggles etc etc. Gave up just gone 11, couldn't see a thing, mostly due to the wetter snow lower down. Is now decent snow though and looking good now down in Vallandry, a few CM's already, and was fairly dumping at the top of the Derby at 11. Didn't venture any further up.
Going out again in an hour or so.
