Bad light stops play! Its now snowing heavily and is quite dark with an evil wind that has closed most of the lifts on the Motte and the Aeroski - so retired to watch telly. We are still expecting 30-40cm in the next 24 hours. Brev is about the only busy place!

Got back yesterday from Tignes Le Lac, 12 hours travel with only 4 hours kip the night before made for a very long day.
Anyway, yeah what a resort. I think we were super lucky with the weather, it had forecast overcast / light snow for most of the week but actually turn out to be sunny most days. There was only thursday which was quite windy and snowy but i didnt mind that too much as it made it very quiet on the slopes. Speaking of which i was a bit worried about booking the week while the french were off but it turned out not to be too bad. The only real queues were in the stations in a morning and at lunch time (which can be avoided)
We managed to cover much of Espace Killy over the week, didnt make it over to the glacier area on the Val side though. I think the blue run genepi and the red double M off the top of the funicular were my favourite runes, its just a shame that double M seems to be perpetually busy or at least it was last week. Unfortunately i lost a day skiing on Monday after eating a dodgy burger from that place just above Val Claret, was up all night which was not great but was back skiing by Tuesday.
Friday i had a stab at my first black run, the one that leads into Le Lac (Trolles?) was fine until about 3/4 of the way down were it gets real narrow, tried to side slip this bit but ended catching the icey side and wiped out didnt really enjoy it, think i'll leave blacks for a while. The one thing i will say about the Espace Killy area, whoever did the piste classifications must have had a lot of vin chaud that day, because it was comically inaccurate on some runs.
chocksaway, Absolute pleasure to meet you, we had a great evening on Wednesday. I think that last shot of Genepi was a tipping point though enjoy the rest of the season
Taken on Wednesday i think on the Genepi run

Sitting in club med, misty cold looking day and can't wait for the lifts to open. Finally after 365 days its time to ski again.Piccadilly hope you have a great week too. Snow looks awesome compared to the last time I was in Val some 6 years ago.

Looks like the front slowed down a bit through the night - we have had about 15cm of snow and it is still snowing heavily - about another 15cm expected today. The pisteurs are very busy with explosive charges (no alarm clock needed today!). I expect its going to be a bit of a slow start - stay safe folks.
Russeh, Glad you got back OK - now I know why Thursday was a bit slow......

Its still snowing! There was a couple of suckers gaps when we could see the powder under a milky sun (Grand Pré again!). Also a bit more snow on the Val side - but because of the wind and the temperature it was quite heavy so some of the usual bad weather pitches were just not steep enough. The wind has picked up again as I type, so all in all a mixed but enjoyable ski with Tigski, and I guess they would have to be, the Tigskilettes! (That's me in trouble in the Jam Bar tonight!).
However, a more sobering end to the day as we saw the ambulance disappearing with someone who had been caught in an Avalanche off piste under the Sache Gondola (the one from Brev) - luckily he was not buried - even more so as he was not wearing a transceiver - but he had slipped over 200 metres bouncing off the trees as he went - leading to potentially broken ribs - not a comfortable 'blood wagon' and ambulance ride.

Certainly not from Planet Tignes!
Just been out to the bins - using the Internationally renowned Poubelle Scale - Val C has had about 10 inches today - with about 5 of that this evening after the lifts closed. Quite amusing watching them practice the halfpipe for the X Games in a pretty much white out . . .
Nice to be back in our place - do wish renters would fess up when they break something though - bit frustrating. Some one has managed to pull the boot heater off the wall - so as soon as you put a boot on it, the whole things come off the wall Need some LONG screws and I really dont fancy a trip down to Weldom . . .
Nice skiing with the family - spag bol at Marmottes all ways cheers me up! Mind you I did have a major run in with some muppet who decided it was a great idea to chuck my skis half down to the Borsat lift as he could not get at his on the ski rack! Quite embarrassed that he was English as well - I don't think he was quite expecting the full on tirade that he received . . . Even funnier when he was on the Tommeuse lift later, having to sit next to me . . . !
Enjoy tomorrow folks

Captain Snowy, If stewart woodward's, loose screw is not long enough (!) try 'Brico Lac' on the Rosset front between the Loop and the Clin D'Oeil - behind the Savoyarde tourist tat in the window there is quite a useful hardware shop.

Well the weather elves were kind - if a little wrong. After last nights 30cm (which wasn't really forecast) we woke to snowy skies and very busy pisteurs - with a surprisingly low avalanche risk of 3 we saw lots of slides deliberately set off and a few by skiers/riders. As most of the lifts opened around 10 the sky cleared allowing us to see where we were trying to powder ski! There was about a foot of medium weight powder off piste (more on heavily laden north facing slopes) but because of the depth and weight - there were more straight lines than neat powder 8's. We didn't venture on to the more steep slopes for fear of something unpleasant. As we were on the Grattalu the pisteurs were busy in Col de Ves - they dropped a charge which set a small avalanche off (to protect the chair at the bottom) then the crown propagated slowly around and up the bowl creating a massive slip - quite impressive. Needless to say there was a lot of cabin fever this morning and people taking unnecessary risks.
After a long tiring morning we retired to the Aspen for a well deserved burger and could see the practice sessions on the X-Games slopestyle course - blimey they get a long way off the ground. Huge thumbs up to the X Games makers (?) for getting it ready in time. Short afternoon - back home now for tea and medals

Thanks for the offer about screws - have got some from Brico in Le Lac - forgot about that place! Been laid low for a day yesterday thanks to a bug passed on by Daughter No 1. (still not received any decent offer for either Daught - The Wellness pace was full of tubby Russians earlier when we went - and the daughts did not seem keen on any of them . . . I thought it may be a good source of Billionaires . . . Ho hum
Trip around from Val C, up Tichot and over to Le Lac then down Sache - do prefer going down it when you can see . . . unlike today!
The whole place is busy busy - went to Le Lac to the Brico on the bus - you could almost see the alcohol haze on there . . . Smelt like a brewery!
Hope the suns come out a it tomorrow - be nice to see the mountains!
Regards

pam w, That's the first time I've heard anyone imply Tignes is sophisticated - those over the hill in VDI would be horrified!
A quiet day today after a not so quiet night at the Arbina - as ever it was great. Spring is back - about 10 deg in the village this afternoon and my pet icicle is shrinking before my eyes. Had a quick wander over to Le Fornet where yesterdays fluffy stuff had mostly compacted a little - lower down the snow was very soft. Similar warm temps over the weekend - but unsettled with lots of periods of snow forecast next week - cooling down later in the week.
As for tomorrows travellers - any problems (if any) will be at the UK end - should be fine over here. In summary sleet and rain around London - snow showers further north at Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham. The worst forecast at the mo' is at Leeds where some disruption is likely - maybe some delays at Manchester depending on the severity of the showers. Further north Newcastle and Scotland expecting a few light snow showers - wishing you all a safe onward journey and thank you for flying Easyjet/Monarch/Jet2 Thomson........!
Off to the X games to catch the male skiers superpipe - may be some pics later

A mixed day today - light kept changing from average to not so average in the odd snow shower. The lower pistes were very hard early doors after yesterdays warm temps had softened the surface which froze over night. Still lots of great piste skiing - for those of you still stuck at Leeds Bradford (6.5 hr delays and counting) it will be worth it when you get here but its going to be a snowy unsettled week.
For air travel tomorrow there should be no problems in France - but you may need a brolly on the way to the terminal. The tab end of the snow may still be affecting UK airports - but only as light showers predominantly so fingers crossed the delays should only be slight if any.

Can't see a lot today - Tignes is basically sat in a cloud. There was a smidge of new snow overnight which covered the hard pistes - which are now softening. So little to say I'm afraid as I'm off to the gym after a couple of hours and a coffee at La Roseé Blanche - its great when you can be picky!

How come -1 in England is so much more damp and miserable than -12 in Tignes?? Flippin cold and yukky walking the pooch this morning in Leamington Spa - I want to be up that mountain again like last week!!!!
Mountain Addict - Always worth giving a card to anyone no matter what!!! I did that with a couple on the Glacier Express lift 3 years ago - and they have just re booked for next year having been to us for the past 2 years! 5p's worth of business card proved excellent value!
Got a spare week in April left - hmmm - wonder what the SleezyJet flights cost . . . (got 5 free visits to the Wellness left - shame not to use them!).
Captain S
Ps - Had to ship 2 x daughters back - plan to off load them to wealthy folk failed again Might consider offering them with a free week in Tignes as an incentive . . .

And the Sage of Lavachet was absolutely correct - it was an awesome day
From early morning on Familial where there was 3 or 4 inches of fresh snow on top to Le Fornet - it was all great - bit pressed for time so got to go. Oh if you are driving out this weekend might be an idea to have the chains somewhere near the top of the pile of stuff in the car!

chocksaway, by the sounds of it you'll be right about being about to ski until June at this rate

Woke up at 6 and could see there was only clouds above the tops of the peaks. A quick snooze and then out for the first chair of the day up Palafour - when out went the lights and it started snowing moderately (to be fair this scenario was forecast). We have had about 20cm of new snow - certainly not powder - but I only got as high as 2800m today as the wind was quite cutting and the snow flakes were quite sharp so at the very top it may be better (or just wind blown). After about 10 the light was very bad - so good for the technique - but at times it was just impossible to tell which way was up or down. Its still snowing now - it may clear up overnight and more snow expected tomorrow which could be quite heavy in the afternoon - as it will be a bit cooler chains may be required for the last bit of a trip, especially late evening.
For those boarding tomorrow morning the UK should be OK with only light snow showers at East Midlands, Birmingham, Leeds and all airports north. At the French end mist is forecast at Lyon Chambery and Geneva with early fog at Grenoble - if the weather follows the forecast (we have been here before I know!) it should all have cleared - I will have a look at the later forecasts and update (Jam Bar session willing!).

Mmmmm - Lyon has just fogged out - could be interesting in the morning - this was just after an aircraft had 'an excursion' from the runway - no headlines so can't have been that bad - they are due to clear that by midnight tonight
