Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ray Zorro,

The green run down was in terrible condition on Mon/Tues, with huge puddles, and it was closed on wednesday, leaving only the blacks or the lifts as a means of getting down.

That doesn't sound too good Sad

Am I being unduly concerned given that I don't fly out until the 10th?

Jon.

jonm, No need to be concerned. I must have phrased it badly, there is loads of good skiing up top snowHead , it is only the very bottom that was a bit iffy. There are plenty of lifts down if you don't want to ski. Though what I couldn't work out was why the queue for the gondola was probably 20mins at least, there were no queues for the chairs down Confused

Ray Zorro, It's the lemming syndrome in action!

jonm, Even if you can't ski down to the village from the Cretes you have a 1400m verticle descent available. All our best skiing for non black skiers is above the Cretes anyway. The Chemin des Demoiselles (the green path) is a) a run you do once and never again, even in good conditions and b) a prime example of how green and not steep can does not necessarily mean easy! the chairlifts are by far and away the best option, I find them very pleasant after a hard day - nice views, comfy seats, restful ......

Warm again today, although clouds are now massing over behind La Muzelle, which hopefully will bring the promised snow tonight/tomorrow

Here is the Cretes at around 16.45 this afternoon

easiski, I must pay you a visit, the pictures are so enticing and the thought of falling snow makes me want to pack a bag and head for the airport. Unfortunately not this season Sad Thanks for all the reports and pictures, your thread is my first stop when I get home from work in the evening snowHead

jonm, when I went in January, I found that easiski's reports had been spot on. At a time when snowfall had been thin, there was plenty of good snow high up. I had great skiing. What's more, when spyderjohn serviced my skis yesterday, there were no base repairs, and the edges needed a light de-burring only.

Bottom lines:

Although you might think that easiski would be tempted to give a flattering report, what she reports is what there is.
The height of the resort gives very high probability of good skiing - and the pisteurs are highly skilled at keeping the runs in good shape.

Headplant, I'm glad to cheer up your day.

achilles, Thanks - I do try, and get quite upset when I think I'm not being believed. FWIW peeps should not only look at the height of the resort, but at the height and orientation of the skiing. Lots of high resorts have much of their skiing at or below resort level - not so LDA. Very Happy Very Happy

easiski, Probably not! It doesn't look half as bad as on the webcams. Virtually no visibility on them at all. I'm certainly not complaining about it snowing now, ideally it will continue until my next visit in late March and then again after it until Easter Smile (Well I can dream).

Heavy snow last night - I almost didn't make it back from dinner at La Grave with the boys - very glad to have got some use out of the chains before the Scorpio dies (didn't risk, and very happy) the chevvy with fat tyres and no chains. I had to use them the whole way back! Shocked Shocked massive dump, more info and hopefully pix later. Graham N said he got a face shot yesterday. Very Happy Very Happy

achilles, Well - the Scorpio isn't dead yet - just dying. gearbox smelt nasty when I got home last night. Shock

Snowing and then again today. Not showing signs of clearing up, in fact as I left Mr Leis it was snowing heavier than ever. Came down the Grande Pente and it was amazing. Very deep in the trees and, although tracked, not tracked out. My camera wouldn't work (low battery), but Mr Leis took one, which I hope I'll be able to post later. Very Happy Very Happy

snowangel., Seems complete at the Toura now - some very big air in the slopestyle area and the quarter pipe is not being policed (I got told off good and proper for taking my client in there last week!) Very Happy Of course it's never as good in the winter park as the summer park - but then I'd get really pi**ed off if they pinched any more of the Toura!! Shocked

Still snowing very heavily now BTW. going to LG tomorrow - whooppee! Very Happy Very Happy

easiski, there should be some pow left for you - I don't think we quite managed to ski it all out. Plenty of bottomless stuff around if you look for it. Should probably check on avvy risk though - today it was 4, and the guides did have a bit of a discussion about whether they could open the top during their early morning security check. Our guide said he set off a couple of substantial slabs during that check, and I set off a small one (maybe 30cm deep, 2m wide, 5+m long) myself this morning. No big deal but certainly enough to mke you think Shocked . We're off to Serre Che tomorrow to check that out with Chris

Blue skies this morning. Tough life isn't it!

easiski, there was a big one went down the middle of the vallons a couple of days ago, although stay out of the valley bottom and you're mostly OK (or will only find small sloughs). Looks like you're in for a fantastic day. Yesterday's snow was the best I've ever skied in - although that's not ctually saying a huge amount.

There was still plenty of snow falling last night, a slightly interesting drive down from La Grave, I think the Oisans is the place to be just now. Very Happy

Today I went to La Grave with a couple of Danish guys, and met up (accidentally but propitiously) with Bernard C. Sunny early on, getting cloudy around midday. Great day, very tiring as ever, and in the morning less wind than on our side. Apparently the liaison wasn't open so it was a good thing that we decided to drive round.
Here are some pix:
Leaving the Haut Dessus restaurant at 3,400 looking up to the dome de La Lauze
About half way down here's Bernard, and if you look carefully in the couloir you can see some teeny peeps
Near the bottom, looking up - I thought this was really pretty

I heard that the off piste was brill in LDA today. Jutta said L'Y and the "extra" des Vallons was especialy good. Neil (Geordie pisteur) skied Chalance and Les Travers and said they were exceptional ..... Very Happy Very Happy

Oh - and BTW - there's no snow ... rolling eyes rolling eyes
