All these reviews are spot on.
Colloses in Bellecote has always been a favourite on mine. Monica's/Gargantus in Plagne Soleil was bad for me this year. Waiters specialising in being rude (I probably just wasn't in the mood)
Borseilles in Champaney has always been awesome.
I rediscovered the bakery in Plagne Centre this year which meant lovely cheap scoff tucked into the jacket and consumed on the slopes as and when needed

Update following recent trip.
Le Plein Soleil. Didn't visit, but told has cnanged owners. No longer German, so presumably no Kaiserschmarrn.
Les Inversens continues to give great service (and welcome warmth).
And we stumbled across a couple of new places.
Skiing down to Vallandry one lazy day, just before the bottom (and overlooking the Vallandry chair) we spotted La Bergerie de Raphael.
Excellent hot chocolate and apple tart on a sunny balcony with deck chairs. It looks a place for serious eaters.
Another place for serious eaters is Le Chalet Friolin at Les Bauches.
This place has had a checkered history: was once a premier eating place, then went into decline, but now seems to be back on top. We sat by a warm fire on comfy sofas with hot creamy hot chocolate and yummy tart of chocolate and nuts while watching happy diners tuck into large plates of lovely looking food. We intend to return for a proper lunch in March.
It also has a number of rooms for overnight stay if you happen to overdo it (or just want to be pampered).

Le Chalet Friolin is the best restaurant in the whole of the area. Need to book but worth it.

After superb lunch today, I'm putting the Forporet back in the Good Food Guide.
Cheese Omlette and chips for 12 euros.
Massive portion: at least 3 eggs, big portion of chunky chips, and small side salad.
More than enough - had to give some of the chips away.
(Also very attractive waitress  )

Restaurant update.
Le Sauget, at the top of the chair out of Montachavin, is back in the charge of Pat and Gerard. They "retired" for a season or two and left the place in the hands of a young couple who rather let the place go. Today was back to usual friendly welcome - had a lovely hot chocky and tarte framboise by the fire today watching the snow drift down.
Le Chalet des Colosses, just above and right of the new Colosses lift out of Bellecote (know locally as "Polly's", and with the ice rink) is still as wonderful as ever. Had a superb lunch there of Vegetable Samosa followed by Vegetable Soup (they do an excellent curry)
And our new discovery this season: La Casa de L'Ours in Plagne Village. Very friendly. You can eat in the restaurant or the same menu in the more informal bar. Your standard French ski resort menu, but the pizzas are excellent. Well worth the trip up there.

@Jonpim, thanks for the update to the thread - as a vegetarian the words Vegetable Samosa made me very happy - France to date has not always been an easy place food wise. it is good to know places to head for

Just finished a week in les Coches. Restaurants that we found to be good were, les Borseliers in Champagny, Carroley above les Coches and la Blanche Muree across in les Arcs.

Little to report from Christmas and New Year except to say Fiftys Legend maintains its reputation and consistently excellent fayre in Montalbert Village. Les Borselliers in Champagny likewise.

@boredsurfin, Do they still do lunches at the Graciosa (Ski Olympic's place at the top end of Plange Centre)? Haven't been the for a few years but was good value* - limited menus, a soup plus a few other dishes, had a very good Cornish pasty there once.

@agw, Good question, as you it did do good value food, it was advertised for sale this summer, but when we skied past at Xmas it looked closed but still had Ski Olympic signs on the building, so don't know is the answer!

Hi everyone,
I'm off to La Plange on the 18th, can't wait! I was hoping to take advantage of the vast knowledge on here for some recommendations for lunch spots. We're on a slight budget, so happy with cheap and cheerful - thinking a couple of hot chocolates, and something with chips. I'll be picking her up from ski school at 12:30 everyday with the aim to stop for lunch at about 2pm. From experience the amount you get for your money can vary a lot from place to place on the slops, so if there any hidden gems people can recommend that would be brilliant!!

In Montalbert
Union from English Michelin Starred Chef Phil Howard
2 Zebras in place of 50's Legend
The 360 at the top of the new Montalbert Gondola (a new build)
In La Plagne
Le Chairlift (also a new build) near Villages opposite the rope tow) from the team at Croque Neige in Centre
and following the devastating fire last December I hear Le cristal des neiges Montchavin will be open for the new season
All to be sampled and reported back on here soon....

Hi @WillowWilson, Its best to state which village you are in but if you are in Plagne Center then the ever popular Croque Neige may fit the bill but for my 10c's worth try Le P'tit Bouchon, its a tiny traditional family run restaurant with a great set menu.

Restaurant Reviews from last weeks' trip:
Les Borseliers (Champany) - We booked on facebook for Mothers Day /Birthday lunch, this meant we had full table service, the waitress was very attentive. The restaurant in nicely done out and cosy. I had the Plat jour which was Lamb with potato gratin – delicious. Hubby’s Steak Hache was good too. We treated ourselved to the Tarte Tartin which was yummy.
La Loup Blanc (Plagne 1800) – We went here twice once for lunch on arrival day and once for afternoon stop. The pizza for lunch was good. The service in the afternoon for waffles was a little slow.
La Cantine (Plagne 1800) – Our one night out. Good pizza, slightly odd fajitas, nice decor. Very busy so you need to book.
Les Coquettes (Plagne Centre) – A lunchtime time treat. Expense but fabulous food – Steak Tartre for me, Baked Cheese and charcuterie for hubby and adult Spaghetti Bolognese for Mini Skier.
Deli (Under Spar, Plagne centre) – Amazing patisserie, cheap pizza/croque monsieur and good coffee. Perfect for quick stop.
Scottys (Plagne Centre) – Disappointing with slow service.
Croq Neige (Plagne Centre) – OKish for a snack. Slippy floor and I fell over.
Glass Box Restaurant (Le Fornelet) – Coffee / Chocolate stop. Nice views but too hot.
Hotel Carina (Belle Plagne) – Tried to get an afternoon drink, after 20 minutes sitting on the sun deck we gave up and skied off!
Hors Piste (Belle Plagne) – Horrid coffee and no loos.

Wondered if there were any updates to this thread for this season please? Also a specific question if that's ok .... I have a hugely restricted diet for medical reasons, so lunchtimes (usually late as we ski through lunch) I'm looking for a salad. OH is usually after soup and fries! Not exactly gourmet  Does anyone have any recommendations please, ideally where we will be able to eat outside and enjoy the view? Many thanks!

@HelenS, we like Monica’s at Plagne Soleil. It should suit your requirements well or provide something more substantial if you fancy it. But the main reason to visit is the welcoming staff and the antics of the eccentric owner who is a natural entertainer.

rdsweb, you should be able to get your salad and your wife's soup and chips more or less anywhere.
I would largely agree with @MelH.
Borseliers: one of our favourites.
Loup Blanc. Not been there for years - essentially in the wrong place, and not improved by recent building work.
La Cantine: another favourite, but only for evenings. You do need to book.
Don't know Les Coquettes.
Scottys is an acquired taste - some love it, but not for me.
"Glass Box" (360). A Greenhouse, so will get rather warm in sunny weather. Was doing good things by end of last season. Not tried this season.
Carina. Excellent, but you do need to book.
Some places i would add:
Bergerie. Good place for lunch or end of day.
Les Bauches (bottom of Crozats, "Chalet de Friolin"). Good place for long lunch and then just ski home.
Inversens. Just down from Roche de Mio (but NOT the restaurant at top of Roche de Mio). Good food, but can be long queue at peak times.
I don't know Monica's.

Hadn't seen this thread before our recent visist. ( We actually were staying in Peisey but skied equally Les Arcs La Plagne areas)
The best places we ate at were Chalet Friolin which was excellent with very quick service and Les Roches where we had a really good plat du jour of grilled tuna and beautiful grilled veggies. though the service was a little on the slow side.
Incidentally we left Les Bauches via the chair lift what is the road down like? there were signs warning it was flat so we gave it a miss as I had no desire for a two kilometer pole fest.

T Bar, you did the right thing. That run down to Montchavin/Les Coches involves a lot of polling. Not worth it.
Agree La Roche is also worth a visit.
And if that lady is still serving in Monica's, then i will definitely be making a visit . . .

Les Killis in Champagny area. Best Hot Chocolate we had on the slopes. Superb cakes, tarts as well. A great find on this trip and we tried to visit most days.

Will give it a try again next month.

I note that quite an unusual marking has been added to the piste map this year - a 0% gradient warning!
You sometimes see thoroughly exhausted skiers at the bottom of the Esselet piste taking a break. There's enough slope from that point not to need to pole.

We skied back to the Vanoise from Esselet several times with no problem. It was between the Chalet Friolin and the Esselet joining in that I was less sure about.
