Ah. I see. I assumed it was interdit because there were no piste sweepers in operation. Obvously, it would also not be covered by insurance.
So, thanks for your fulsome knowledge on the matter.
Perhaps there may be short dawn & dusk hours when lifties and café owners are permitted to use closed pistes.
Nevertheless, I guess there will still be intrepid grommets who'll flout the law, and treat the 'piste closed' sign with disdain, like any 'piste closed' sign during daylight hours..

Crot does have anchor points with flashing beacons as at one point that the piste basher does use and anchor from with a winch on it (3/4 way down near/past the Vin Chaud piste side restaurant).

Ah yes, I stand corrected, that pitch is certainly steep enough. Thanks

Anyone having issues ordering Avoriaz lift passes??
I'm going for a quick weekend before Xmas and need a pass for the Friday and Saturday, but the website is quoting 150 euros when trying to check out! The price, again on their website, is shown as 98 for a 2 day pass! Anyone else experianced this?

@Roscoe, that’s weird. If you try a Sat/Sun weekend it’s €76. But Fri/Sat is €150 - which isn’t what’s shown on the table of prices!
I’d email them - they’re pretty responsive.

Yeah I’ve since emailed. They’ve acknowledged that it’s not right and said they’ll sort but with no timeline.

Last time I was in les Gets before Christmas, party of 8, kids and adults, I was being driven crazy trying to price up a mix of PDS (they had a special offer that time too) and Les Gets only passes, which also had early season discounts and weekend pricing all bundled in. I couldn't get the online pricing to work or figure out the best combination.
I had the idea of emailing the lovely people at LG tourist office (had been making enquiries about accom already), to ask if they could help, and they must have spent a good time figuring out the most cost effective pricing, confirmed it all back to us, I paid them direct and had the cards ready for collection from the office when we arrived. So they might be worth a shout, they were very helpful!

Hi,
Can anyone help me with activities in Les Gets for non-skiiers?
I'm already aware of the 4 season luge, alta lumina light show, a ride on the petit train, mt chery gondala.
Is there anything I am missing to add to this list?
Thanks.

Might be niche, only one in Europe apparently, but fascinating all the same.
If your non skiers are in to walking then catching the free busses to their highest point and then walking down is fun, there are walking and snoeshoeing paths across the snow as well, can download the route maps from LG website

If it was a bit more central in the village I probably would've visited before. Only have 4 days pre Xmas, so the museum will have to wait for another time on this trip.
Yes, snow shoeing also on the list pending some good dumps...

Sensible. Never go snow shoeing without lightening the load.

Hello any Avoriaz regulars
We're thinking of staying in Avoriaz with our daughter, but weren't sure how easy it was to do Alta Lumina and still make it back to Avoriaz afterwards...are there any public transport options or would you need to book a taxi...or would you need your own transport?
Thanks!

Aside from the taxi/car option. Its doable on skis but would take a while and a quick walk (or on the mini train ride) across Morzine and up the Super Morzine cable.

In case it helps, it was pretty easily doable to go from Avoriaz to the back side of Mont Chery (Les Gets) for lunch and then get back again in ample time - without rushing.
NB This was in winter, on skis & snowboard.

Sounds like a trick question then.
Are we to take it that 'Alta Lumina' is a world famous vampire festival, held between dusk & dawn, to which daughters should not be taken to, unless considerable delay can be tolerated?

Alta Lumina is superb and justifies the effort. To visit from Avoriaz I'd say taxis both ways from Prodains to make it stress free. Or you could take walking boots in a backpack, finish your ski day in Les Gets, eat early and ask the restaurant to guard your skis and boots while you go to the show (best arranged in advance, say with Ryan at the Boomerang (in English) when booking). Take the Alta Lumina shuttle-bus from the centre up to the venue and back, and have the taxi booked to collect you when you get back to the restaurant. I think the Prodains lift runs until 9pm Sun-Thu and midnight Fri-Sat but check. Your ski-passes are not valid after 7pm, you'd have to buy a separate round-trip/single. For taxis try Taxi-Morzine first, or Last Van Standing etc. It's a magical experience and well worth the adventure!

There's no bus direct from Prodains to Les Gets, you'd be looking at the free bus from Prodains to Morzine, then swap on to the regional bus from Moarzine to Les Gets (~€1.50 single last time I used it).
Google will let you confirm but think the Prodains/Morzine bus runs to either 7pm or 9pm - but the Morzine/Les Gets stops a lot earlier, more like 5:30/6pm (having had to run for it more than once staying in Morzine and stopping for one too many sundowners in Les Gets).

@Mjit, well, by 'bus' I hoped to imply 'bus ride possibly involving one or more changes'.
It seems there is a bus that doesn't involve a change, but this is once a day in the morning.
The trickier bus ride would be after the event: Alta-Lumina=>Les Gets centre=>Morzine=>Prodains (by 9pm)=>Avoriaz.
However, even if one goes from Avoriaz to Les Gets by bus, as @shep suggests, the more feasible (and low stress) option for the return is a taxi from Les Gets to Les Prodains.

Lift pass issue still not resolved on the Avoriaz lift pass website. Hopefully they sort it soon, as buying/topping up in resort took over an hour last year!
Anyway, anyone local have any good predictions of when snow will arrive?

What's the issue? I topped up one of my old cards without an issue back at the start of Sept.

Like most of the Alps - mid November onwards. Certainly 'up the top' in Avoriaz but can be more early December for the Morzine-Les Gets side.

It’s further up in the tread but basically when adding a 2 day pass it the basket, it’s not given the quoted rate of €98 but €150 instead

Looks like snow down to about 1500m today. Wigglies look like unsettled weather from 17th onwards, temperatures crucial to how far down it snows.

Good morning, my first visit approaching this season's event. Good to see the same mixture of chats ranging from the weather, buses, snow shoeing and dumps! Cheered me up on a frosty morning here in the UK. Was also my first look at the webcams too, always a favourite time of year watching the season getting going (apart from actually being there of course).

Disappointing start to the day. What an embarrassing performance. Shame on those short term weather models
I look about 6-7 high res calculations, and run after run they all predicted 10-20cm to village by this morning, but instead I wake up to see cows grazing on the front de neige.
Should be renamed the front d'herbe.
How can these super-computers get the pressure charts right 7 days out, yet fail spectacularly when calculating snow 7 hours away. We was robbed.
More concerningly, over half of those models are not seeing much low level snow out to Friday. They will be wrong again. The charts look great for thurs/fri, so am sticking with my view that there will be proper wintery scenes in the valleys before a sunny weekend.....I guess Fri or Sat morning would be ideal for a little hike, but not sure I'll risk it myself.
At least Avoriaz has done very well, and I have the full pass this year. Not really bothered about snow below 1400m this time of year, makes it easier to get around, and it wouldn't last long anyway. But let's see if we can overturn this half time deficit.
