Yes, bucket and spade essential. One year I entertained 2 year old granddaughter whilst her parents skied. With big bucket of snow carted round from the shady side of the apartment building, where the snow hadn't melted. She sat in full sun, on the grass, with big bucket of snow, a few yogurt pots, a potato masher and a few sticks, for HOURS whilst I sat inside drinking coffee, reading my book, and occasionally popping out with clever new idea about what to do with yogurt pots and rapidly melting snow. Free childcare!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

No. It's all downside with no upside. A different question to that of what age is it viable to take them to actually ski. The probability of an illness of some sort is much higher at 1 than even a year later, and negotiating doctors and hospitals is doubly stressful in a foreign country. If the real aim is to continue skiing when they're that age, the fine, go, but accept each parent goes on a separate trip. Everyone will be happier. Of course, you'll find people who feed back that they took their 1yo up Kilimanjaro on a pack mule, or sailed to the Azores in a barquantine etc. so it's difficult to generalise.

We took our 1 year old to Japan. She caught measles and spent 24h in intensive care as the Portuguese don’t give measles jabs before 15 months. We were nowhere near a ski resort.

As someone that is very happily child free it seems like a massive ordeal. However, I'd still say go for it. There will always be reasons not to go, a 2 year old may be even more complicated!
As for altitude, no evidence that young kids are effected any more than their parents. Plus euro ski bases are just not that high in the grand scheme of things.
