Official Weather
After the rapid passage of a cold front the extensions of an Atlantic high-pressure area will approach Central Europe on the southern edge of a massive low-pressure area over North Europe. Wednesday and Thursday promise bright autumn weather and pleasantly warm temperatures. These days can still be used for outdoor activities, on Friday the wind will turn north-westward and lead a cold front towards the north side of the Alps. Cold polar air masses will approach our regions behind this front and signal a period of cold early-winter weather. Some showers will accumulate particularly at the north side of the Alps time and time again. The snow line will repeatedly be located below 1500m above sea level, whereby winter weather will reach the higher regions of the valleys, however, also in the lower regions of the valleys the temperatures will be too cold for the season.

There were major snowfalls in the last three early autumns.
Last three Christmasses were poor. To say the least....

Yep. The killer in recent seasons has been the high November/December temperatures so snowmaking is only possible in the middle of the night.
Even without natural snow if the temperature is below zero St Anton can have nearly all its pistes covered (24/7) in 3 days

@clarky999, yes and despite the last 2-3 Christmases being under par officially I still did a lot of skiing, that was Mayrhofen but if this Christmas is same or better than the last two have been then I shall be happy enough

@stanton, why then do you spend so much time writing about one of the most touristic developed regions in The Alps?
Go find a forum about Mount Elbruz, or Tibet, or whatever!

They're pretty much right under the Schindlergrat top station (ski down the piste a few metres and cut left under the netting when the resort is open). You then rejoin the piste and ski on down to Alpe Rauz (where we started skinning from) - it's that piste we're going up, almost under the 'couloirs', in the second photo.
They're normally both big bump fields, so was pretty special to score them totally untracked.

@clarky999, As a matter of interest. How were those fotos taken? I cannot see any other tracks down from a partner or did they wait at the Ulmerhutte why you skinned up ??

@stanton, there were three of us up there. First dropped in but quickly cut out to the piste then skied around and down, then took the photo of me in the narrower couloir (you can see his tracks on the top/left of the bottom photo). From around where the piste is I then took the photo of Tom shredding the main face.
@Markymark29, indeed! Hopefully get to make a repeat in the next few weeks! Looking forward to catching up when you're out this season too btw!

Official Weather
A changeable west to north-westerly air stream will determine the weather until midweek. However, the approaching Atlantic fronts will only brush against our regions, precipitation is not expected. An increasingly friendlier mix of sunshine and clouds will result in slowly increasing temperatures. A high-pressure area will spread across the Alps in the second half of the week, simultaneously warm subtropical air masses will approach from south-west. Mostly bright sunshine will result in later-summer feelings once more.

St Anton, presumably in conjunction with other villages/towns, is bidding for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Vote on 15 Oct.
I cannot see any positives for me. It is busy enough already. More people, disrupted pistes, and likely higher prices.

Innsbruck wants the Olympics in 2026. 50 years after 1976
By the way, St.Anton/Lech were Austrian candidate for the AlpineWC 2023, but lost it to Saalbach.

There's actually a pretty strong campaign against hosting them in Innsbruck - much more campaigning and more visible than any 'for' campaign. Can't say I feel particularly strongly about it either way personally.

@clarky999,
Agree! When you look at the development of Ischgl en Lech (both without major sportsevents) compared to St.Anton, you can seriously doubt if such events bring any good news. (And Ischgl is not so happy about their musiceventsmarketing too, looking at their skiboot-after-8pm-policy)
A lot of ski-marketing is complete nonsense imo
