@BobinCH, as ever it's down to location, down here just too warm and conditions are grim, there's no way I'd go touring given the current conditions and forecast, apart from being too dangerous (avy risk now 3 on all aspects and spontaneous slides everywhere as per photo above) it's crap viz at altitude today and tomorrow.
High altitude huts are opening now in the Ecrins but I don't know the terrain at all.
I get out whenever I can be it touring or on the bike and this week it will have been just the one day (Tuesday), so in my books that's grim.
And tomorrow will also see much stronger winds, so along with the recent fresh snow and forecast I'd not be surprised to see risk 4 at altitude. But no doubt people will ignore all the warnings this weekend.

Conditions are the best I've ever seen at this time of year in the Ötztal Valley. In Sölden today (village level) there was about 15cm on my car after a day's riding on what felt like 30cm fresh at glacier level. Temperatures were good and runs from the middle upwards were all open. Everything open is of course above tree line, and with the snow and all, visibility was a bit marginal. But the snow's so good you can just have at it anyway. I was getting face shots at the side of the piste all day.
The weekend forecast is for sun, so it should be epic. I expect more people than usual for closing weekend, but then there's hugely more open than normal, so there should be plenty of space.
