Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

easiski, great pics (as usual), though it will be interesting to see if the forecast +9 at resort level happens tomorrow and if it does, what impact it has on the snow Confused (may make digging you car out easier anyway).

Ray Zorro, It was warm yesterday and today, and the lowest slopes are a bit icy. However they have nothing on the pavements which are lethal! At the moment it seems OK, and the warmer temps are battening down the snow quite nicely, more snow forecast sunday, also tues and thurs (although that's a bit far ahead isn't it?) If we get some good fresh on top of this as soon as that we'll be laughing. All runs to resort are negotiable at the moment, but the Chemin des Demoiselles is a bit thin in places.

I skied toura, gours, Bellecombe and all the bits in between and there's still some very nice powder around the Toura. High winds kept the top lifts closed until about 15.00 today, so with the sunshine there were lunatic peeps everywhere! Massive avalanches all over the place too - good for education! Shocked Fee (all walls) , Rachas, Grand Couloir etc were all pretty much tracked out by early - mid-afternoon. Light wind blown, but clearly very skiable.

Pic from the top of Toura showing the wind blowing the snow off the tops

this is the stupendous view you get when you walk just a little off the top of the Toura piste - it's the start of one route down to St Christophe, and I think is one of the best views in the alps

easiski, snow on Tuesday and Thursday in preparation for our arrival Saturday - PERFECT!!!! snowHead The webcams were showing today how much the wind was blowing. I must say those webcams are pretty awesome but they also make the terrain look quite scary. Can't wait to see it/ski it for myself!!! Thanks again for your emails and Mr Leis is very much looking forward spending that hour or two with you . . . WOOHOOO WE ARE GOING SKIING!!!! snowHead snowHead snowHead

brian, think I've done that run. You end up having to ski along a footpath above a steep river valley (ravine is possibly a bit too dramatic...) then along a broader track, over a few walls then down an alley next to the restaurant. quite an adventure!

Arno, that's the one - whichever descent you do! Horrid if you have to walk down the very narrow path in ski boots. Cross the river if that's the case - much better footing! Shocked

Very warm today - lovely! Very Happy snow on the glacier was just peachy, and there was no wind. sunny all day too. Bit icy around the village this morning and probably will be tomorrow - but I've got a day off - yipppppeeeeeee!

Yesterday I think there were a lot of "sickies" taken around grenoble as there were peeps skiing every radical line around - none today. Hardly even anyone in the Grand couloir which was packed yesterday. Lots of loonies on the Signal though, but on the whole, with careful planning it was mostly possible to avoid the worst of the crowds. ALL runs were open (except possibly Bons and Mont de Lans). All face runs etc. Very Happy Very Happy The face is looking quite good and the base seems to be packing down which we want. So long as the warm spell doesn't last too long it'll be fine. Very Happy
Today's pic was taken out of the Jandri Express window, looking down to the Panoramic restaurant at 2,600m and showing the 8 man chair. Also far in the distance you can see the beginning of the Bellecombe chair.

It was a very grey day today with lazy snowflakes around all day, but not what you'd really call snowing. The Cretes is getting abit hard in places and the Valentin isn't exactly a pleasure either. Nursery slopes are fine but majorly busy. Forgot to take photo - sorry. Embarassed Set to be nice weather for the rest of the week now, so unless something changes it's going to stay hard at the bottom. Sad

My forecast does not suggest snow on Thurs or Fri, and the snow early in the following week is not likely to amouint to much - however Leis, I like yours better!

Hot again today, nice snow on the Cretes, very icy on the Demoiselles and the 2nd leg has just about had it. Best way down looked like l'Y, Sapins and Grande Pente, with Diable still looking good from a distance. Valentin full width but with some serious ice patches - and no, I don't mean hardpack, I mean grey glassy bits! Shocked Shocked Pied Moutet side now has most of it's pistes open and groomed. Very Happy

A dull day today, which started fine and sunny and changed around 11.00 to cloudy and bad light. It was a bit chilly on the glacier this morning with a bit of a breeze (north-ish I think) and when the sun went in, especially after the last couple of days, it felt positively chilly.

I skied the glacer including the dome which was lovely. The Breche and the (supposed) mogul field next to the Lac Noir chairlift. didn't find any moguls though - could see them in any case. The conditions even on the very steep bottom part of the Breche (an LDA "joke" red) were very good. A little hard skiing down to the Cretes in places, but only where everyone brushes the snow off. A fair bit of sugar snow around on well used runs. Later we did the liaison Sea-Grand Nord and route du Thuit which although busy (16.30), was good snow. didn't ski down. If I'd had more energy I would have gone for the Grande Pente, but I couldn't summon it. sorry no photo - when I remembered it was misreable anyway. Flocons of snow idly floating around as I came down the very comfortable Belle Etoile chairlift. Very Happy

Easiski, is the Liaison Sea-Grand Nord the green track that runs from the top of the Diable eggs to the bottom of the cretes?

bh1, strictly speaking it runs from the top of the Grand Cretes chair to the bottom of the Bellecombe chair, it then becomes the Route du thuit (pedant)! Very Happy In principle you are 100% right. Very Happy

Just got back and conditions are still great up top snowHead .

The Pied Monted (sp?) side (being that bit lower) is a little harder packed in general and about 2/3 to 3/4 of the runs are open there, so it was fine for an afternoon.

The green run down was in terrible condition on Mon/Tues, with huge puddles, and it was closed on wednesday, leaving only the blacks or the lifts as a means of getting down.

Some lovely snow up higher though. Anyone going next week will find some excellent conditions.
