Just got back from a snowy Jungfrau. Wengen was a ghost town, and the hayfever was a killer.

That could be interesting, looks like there might be a middle station at the split point, if so it could be a good route, I'm guessing that the middle station would be somewhere near the Aspen area given that the runs below there are generally either pretty boring or icy/muddy depending on conditions an alternative route with the ability to go to Mannlichen or Kl Scheidegg would be great. I guess we wait and see if they get funding and approval

About ten years to late (1/2 hour from grund to Mannlichen on the slow gondola and half hour to KS on the train - disgraceful)- won't be able to afford to go there with the exchange rate anyway - the lousy lifts and slow transport are also a very good reason to not go there much these days. The Wixi is finally due to go after next season but the unbelievable Fallboden is still there.

countryman, All I will say... You lack a massive amount of understanding of altitude and distance travelled.
I also fail to understand what your post is supposed to add to this thread...

Ronald, Chris Brookes, thanks - I recognise it now. I've not been down that particular route, must try it next visit, though I won't hold my breathe for the same conditions!

countryman, you also obviously don't understand about uplift capacity, 3 trains full of people say 25 mins from Wengen to Kleine Schidegg, 7km of piste (if you just go straight back down the blue) but then there are people who can't stand the trains in the Bernese Oberland and have no understanding that those trains mean that the area has an abnormal number of long runs compared to most ski resorts.
As for the Grund - Mannlichen Gondola yes it will be nice to replace it, I was one of the first passengers on it the Day it opened, back then it was the longest Gondola run in the world, it's still fairly high on the list I think no. 3 (and the longest in Europe) and making it a 10 person gondola instead of a tiny 4 person will certainly make life easier, especially at weekends when all the locals tend to drive to Grund and get straight on the Gondola

Chris Brookes, Very interesting as this will give a vertical drop run of 2174m for a good part of the season. From memory a good deal of the run down from Winteregg to Lauterbrunnen is a track. Is this where the snowmaking is being installed?

riverman, probably a fair guess, there are after all few locations where one can actually ski down from the plateau on that side of the valley, however I'm not sure how much longer it will add to the season, the route down to the valley floor is often closed not just to lack of snow but to the warmer temps and rain that Lauterbrunnen gets compared to Wengen or Murren, if they can get a good hard base down early in the season though with the usually colder temps found in December and January there is a chance it will last a bit longer

D G Orf, Last season was the first that they had the snow guns down to Grund, it made a huge difference in that you could ski down in reasonable conditions for a good part of the season. I think the same could apply to the run to Lauterbrunnen which is mainly in the shade and they will stockpile snow and push it down the lower parts as and when it wears and melts.

Movies + TV filmed in and around the Jungfrau Region
Did you know one of them was - Star Wars Episode III 2004, Revenge of the SithTrailer !!
In 2004, shooting took place in Grindelwald for the film “Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”. The mountain setting represented part of the planet Alderaan.

They missed out another Bond film, the opening sequence to Golden Eye has a brief shot of the area, as Bond escapes the exploding facility in a plummeting plane. That plane is actually doing a vertical dive in front of the Eiger North face, apparently piloted by a local pilot who takes people on tourist trips around the peak, you can very briefly see a tiny bit of Grindelwald in the valley below
