Chris Brookes, wow that suprises me. Working in the tourist trap photo game myself I would never have thought that. So someone has to dress up as buzz and gets no money for posing all day bwahahaa Maybe I should start rocking the lederhosen stylee with the St Bernard.
Not that I am suggesting that buzz is a man in a suit for one minute, everyone knows it's THE buzz.

Most impressive ski onepiece I've seen in a long while. I assume that it'll get it's debut in Muerren sometime in early 2010.
Soon everyone will want one.

Updated Pistemap for next season; with the new Eigernordwand and Almiboden lifts.
Unfortunately its a bit low resolution
When compared to the old map; it seems the Eigernordwand lift will end much closer to the railway station...
(which means: less punters going offpiste at the old salzegg space)

Ronald, From looking at the map and my memory of information given out with regard the new chair the bottom of the chair was to be very close to the bottom of the Arven and Honegg chairs which will make it a very busy location at times. Perhaps a good location to open a cafe/bar!!!

Jonny luv plums, Oh yes, when you get storms in the alps, you really get storms in the alps. A friends buisness partner died when he was climbing up arround the Jungfrau one year due to a sudden and unexpected lightning storm, don't blame the guide by the way, he was the guide ! Qualified at the highest level, but the storm came up very suddenly and was completely unforcasted

We're off to Interlaken for our summer hols in a couple of weeks. Are there are any tips, must do's or avoids that the Jungfrau connoisseurs can help us with. We're a family of 3, me (dad) a keen rambler and cyclist, wife - will do a little of the former and none f the latter, and 8 year old daughter, who will do a bit of both. Also like site seeing and we have the Jungfraubahn pass for 6 days. Daughter is also keen to do a bit of skiing, is the little rope tow that my wife went on as a school kid still there at the top of the Jugnfrau? I seem to think DG Orf mentioned it somewhile ago.
Thanks for any help in advance

skiing is still going up there. There is a new hiking trail they opened last week which follows the lauberhorn race track with all these little info points down it. Not quite a skatepark but hey, they did something new

stevew, What dates will you be there? I'll be in the Valley hostel downtown Lauterbrunnen from 23-30th of July.
There're quite a few hiking trails up the mountains. Easily accessable with the pass; From First, Mannlichen, Scheidegg.
Also a lot of mountainbiking and (road)cycling to be done... Will you have an MTB or a roadbike?
Information about the signed trails is easily obtained through Grindelwald tourist office; i had the info on my doormat in 2 days
Mountainbiking can also be done guided; along unsigned singletrails etc etc.
Depends a bit on what your interests are and how much you want to do with and without family.
Recommended restaurants:
Hotel Stechelberg (Follow the road from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg until you're not allowed any further in the car)
Hotel Baren (Wengen)
Restaurant Bahnhof (Kleine Scheidegg)

stevew, Going up to the Jungfraujoch even with the reduction you get with a 6 day pass is very exspensive so only go up on the day there is a good weather forecast. If your daughter is going to do some skiing dont forget to have some insurance in place as summer holiday insurance will not in most cases cover you.

stevew, Hmm I think the Jungfrau pass also covers you on the Funicular up the Harder Kulm (alpine wildlife park with Ibex and Marmots near bottom station just a short walk from Interlaken Ost station) and up to the alpine Gardens on the Schynige Platte both of which are worth trips on nice days, the walk from Mannlichen to Kl Scheidegg is possibly just a little long for the youngster but is pretty level and very plesant, Only go up to the top of the Jungfrau on a really clear day when you can get fantastic views, In interlaken itself, afternoon teas at the Cafe Schuh are reccomended (they also do a chocolate show which I've not seen) as are the views from the high level restaurant at (from memory) the hotel Metropole almost opposite the cafe Schuh, trips on both lakes also well worth it, I prefer Lake Thun with its 3 castles slightly over Lake Brienz, though Brienz also has the Rothorn Bahn funicular which I've never been up and the Ballenburg open air museum which has lots of fantasically restored buildings from all over Switzerland, that in itself is well worth a day trip if you like that kind of thing and you can get a full guidebook in english from the entrance area.

Chris Brookes, no one mentioned zermatt
I'm sneaking a trip there wednesday or thursday, [w00t] w00t w00t /[/w00toff]
If you go to the joch on a nice day so will the rest of the monkeys. Individuals run out of seats and you have to stand for the same price. Little known fact, you can reserve individual seats for 5 francs extra, I think there's a time limit on the time you can spend up on the joch but it's better than queueing to get up and down.
I wouldnt call it skiing up there, the best thing you can do is build a kicker and launch yourself off it.
My tip for a shite day (which seems to be every day of june this year and july is shaping up to be the same) or even a nice day is St. Beatus Hohlen, doesnt get so tourist infested as other mainstream places as its a bit of a pain to get to, probably a bus or something. THey do the tours in german or english and there are dragons and 5hit everywhere.

Thanks for all the info so far.
Ronald, we're going 18th to 1st August, mainly looking for things to do as a family, but accept that if any cycling to be done likely to be on whatever we can hire (my choice is on road these days) and just for short trips with Hannah.
riverman, hadn't thought of the insurance bit, I'll look at our annual policy and see if it covers it (but something a t the back of my mind says not).
Jonny luv plums, like the idea of the dragon place - thanks.
Keep it coming!

1st August is Swiss National day so all sorts of strange "Local" Stuff happens then, expect to see lots of people in National Dress and so on.
For Family stuff I still reccomend Ballenberg Open Air museum http://www.ballenberg.ch/en/Welcome

That may be as it's not included on the 6 day pass and costs a fortune to go up to. Much better done in the winter when included on the lift pass.
Trummelbach falls is worth a visit.

Chris Brookes, to be honest we bought what Inghams had with the package and didn't know that there was something else better on offer!
|
|
|
|
|
|
As an addition to this what are the options for our 8 year old daughter for passes. Inghams would only sell the adult version, but we do have Swiss half price rail fare passes for both weeks we are there and allegedly she is covered by this.
