Murren is easy from Lauterbrunnen. Take the cable car to Grutschalp and take the train to Wintregg. Enjoy some of the runs on the Winteregg and Maulerhubel lifts before heading on to the Allmendhubel venicular. Ski to Murren and muck about on the Schiltgrat and Grimmel lifts for a bit before returning to Murren and take the cable car to Birg/Schilthorn. There are some nice runs in the Birg area and the Schilthorn is good for a leisurely lunch. When you return from Birg, make sure that you take the turn back towards Winteregg/Maulerjubel - that way you can ski back to Winteregg. There's a red from Winteregg to Lauterbrunnen - nice to be able to say that you've done it but otherwise it's missible.
Enjoy!!!

As Skibb stated above do a couple of runs at Winteregg but don't stay any longer as that chair is very very slow and you end up doing more time on the chair( 12 mins) than skiing that area.
When you have reached the top of Maulerhubel from the Winteregg chair ski back down to Murren via the Palace run which starts behind the Maulerhubel base chair station (all sign posted). Take the funnicular upto Allmendhubel and then ski down to the Schiltgrat chair (fast 4str chair)
I suggest you stay away from the Gimmeln T-bar as its *loody awful. I would do the following blue/reds -Hindenburg20, Suppen/Rad22, Schilt-Apollo25, Wintertal26 and Gimmeln24 which all end up back at the Schiltgrat Chairlift.
When wanting to go to the Schilthornbahn to go upto Birg i would make sure you do the Hindenburg as it ends up at the Schilthornbahn (make sure you take the right turning for it so you dont have to walk at all )
Any questions on Murren...just post

Davids forecast for the Wengen Area for the coming week,
Cold Monday and Tuesday with up to 20cm of snow in the area expected to fall, warming up for the rest of the week, with possibly very light rain or snow next Saturday
Currently it looks like the following week will be generally cold with the best weather on Sunday and Monday, followed by light snow for the rest of the week with perhaps as much as 30cm falling between Monday and Sunday, but this may change as we get closer to the time

Another point of detail - a gentle cruise to Brandegg for apple fritters at least once in the holiday is mandatory.

Skibb, Only once !..... Actually I have to admit that whilst the apple fritters are nice I actually like Brandegg because it's usually possible to get a seat with no problems, unlike some of the other locations on the slopes

Now I have made it to Grindelwald again i must say I think it is a great place still. Just had another powder day(4 in the last week) although the vis could have been better. Since arriving have covered all the local guys have suggested for off piste over on First, some great stuff there without to much of a hike. The Grund side was also great on White Hare. But loads more to do although there are lots of forest areas which are forbidden now. I do not remember it being like that when I was there 20 years ago. Thats progress i guess
Off to murren tomorrow if the weather is a bit kinder. We did the trip down the Downhill yesterday in a white out which was interesting. So i hope we can see where we are going on the Inferno if we make it over.
Hope to meet up with some other snowheads whilst I am around so pleas do PM me if you are interested.

snowcrazy, 20+ years ago the enviromentalists were not seen as being so important, plus less skiers on the slopes so yes far more of the forrested areas were skiable, these days that's no longer the case which is a shame in some respects but it does help to prevent skiers who don't know any better from following skiers who should know better into the woods

You lot are (generally) much more accurate than any of the weatehr forecasting sites, so please lift my mood and tell me that it's not going to be all dull and rainly next week!
Also is there any decent live music scheduled for Wegen or Grinders??

icebunny, I reckon mainly sunny and mild with maybe the odd dull / wet day.
Decent live music?? That's a tough one. Karaoke in the pub or maybe a band. It's not great music but it is good laugh.

The liftie at the bottom of the Arven lift has a fairly nifty CD with Swiss accordion music and singing/yodelling. HTH.

icebunny, currently looks to me like Warm but clear weather until Sunday when there should be some light snow or rain (to close to call which) then cool but clear until mid week when it will start to warm up, end of the week will definately be warmer or so it looks at the moment, looks just possibly like next week will be the last week before spring conditions truly set in

Rowlski, despite my many years of skiing I still class myself as an intermediate, plus seeing as I've not skied for 3 years (and then not much because I was so heavy) I'm also out of practice, so yes I'd ski with you, where in Wengen are you staying ?

D G Orf, great, sounds like my kind of skier! We're staying in an appartment next to the Hotel Brunner, as I understand it a bit up from the village centre and not far from one of the return pistes.

I'll let you know how we got on but it won't be half as long as Skimom's report...

Avalanche comes down at Grütschalp
Jungfrau Railways had to suspend the Grütschalp to Winteregg service Wednesday morning after an avalanche came down and cut the line shortly after 6.00. The slide came after heavy snowfall brought up to 25 centimetres in the last 24 hours. The line is buried beneath packed snow around two metres high along a length of 35 metres. There were no casualties. There was no damage to overhead power lines. Bad weather has so far prevented an inspection of the avalanche site by helicopter and the clearing operation is postponed due to the risk of further slides. Rail service is likely to be suspended until Friday morning

The best images of the season
A chance meeting with a guest house owner led professional mountain sports photographer John Norris to Mürren. This was a year ago, and Norris, on the lookout for stunning locations, was smitten by the car-free village on the sunny terrace at 1650 metres altitude. Since then, he’s returned four times on assignments for catalogues and magazines.
John Norris has returned to the alpine village of Mürren four times since he «discovered» it a year ago. He is an English freelance photographer based in Chamonix who has made a name for himself in the field of mountain sports, landscape and travel photography with a list of clients that includes upmarket mountain bike manufacturer Trek Bicycle USA. Norris came to Mürren – he calls it his «home away from home» - at the end of February with a mission to go off-piste and shoot images in virgin snow. «Snow conditions are great throughout the entire Alps,» he says, «but many resorts are overrun and it’s difficult to find slopes with unmarked snow.» Mürren’s unspoilt beauty was the clincher when it came to deciding on a location for the photo shoot.

yeah great, "discover" murren then keep coming back and banging photos into the snowplough club of great britains mag and tell the whole world there's untracked powder coming out of your ass in murren. Next thing you know it's gone downhill like wengen and is unusable in high season.
Why dont I just google earth all the stash spots and post up gps co-ordinates while I'm at it.
Deep breath, happy place.
I'm on mannlichen monday in a bright yellow jacket if anyone fancies abusing a snowboarder with a pink board.

A good day here - nice this morning, clouded over high up after lunch, but visibility fine lower down. Pistes soft but very good all in all apart from those facing directly south which get cut-up in the afternoon.
There's still an awful lot of snow here - view from our shack:
