holidayloverxx, What's the best method to get from Flachau to the Alpendorf, Grafenberg or Flachauwinkel? Buses or driving?

FraserP, I don't know about the buses, if you have a car it's probably easier to drive about. You can park for free at the lift base stations.

FraserP, As QB says easy and quick to drive, but you can ski/get the bus as well.
Grafenberg: Take the Achterjet gondola, ski left to the Star Jet 3 lift. At the top of the Star Jet 3, ski right but look immediately to your left to see the top of the Flying Mozart Gondola. Either ski the Flying Mozart run or take the gondola down. At the bottom of the FM gondola take the ski bus to Grafenberg (takes 5 mins). At Grafenberg take the gondola up. Reverse to come back. You can also ski down the Rote 8 from the Star Jet 3 and take to bus to Grafenberg from there.
Alpendorf: same as Grafenberg but when you get off the Grafenberg gondola ski right and follow the signs for Akpendorf.
Flachauwinkl: Leave the apartment, go back down to the main road, turn right and the bus stop is a few yards down the road. The Post Bus stops there and goes up to Flachauwinkel. Reverse on the way back, the bus back will be direction Altenmarkt/Zauchensee.
From our experience this week I would download at Grafenberg from the mid station (Grafenberg Express) as the bottom bit is basically a red track and not so pleasant if it is busy or scraped.
Just returned from a great week skiing the Ski Amade area. Stayed at Haus Susanne in Radstadt hosted by Flangesax (Ben and Ange and 2 great kids). Weather was great all week although extremely cold at the end of the week (down to below -20 degrees). We also enjoyed the fact that we heard very few British voices when skiing which means the area has stayed Austrian and not become Faliraki in the snow.
As well as skiing Muhlbach which is one of our favourite areas we also skiied some areas that were new to us. Our favourite was Flachauwinkel which was nice and quiet and had some great pistes and snow conditions. There was also a number of snow parks around the resort if you are into that type of thing.
Our day in Schladming was superb with awesome slopes and again very quiet which surprised us as it is featured in most UK Tour Operator brochures. The development at the bottom of the Planai slopes typifies the investment the Austrians are putting into their ski resorts. Other areas we tries were Wagrain (quite busy and a lot of criss-crossing pistes) and Zauchansee (steep).
I'm glad we hired a car as it was a lot more convenient than catching buses across the area. Looking forward to returning.[/b]
SCollier1, looking forward to welcoming you back. Mabel asked after you too! Ange x

Cold! Was sunny this morning which helped it feel warmer and then came some snow! Started off quite light, snowing quite moderately now. The forecast was for some light snow later tonight and tomorrow so hopefully we're get a decent unexpected 30+ cms.
Went for a walk yesterday in Untertal, very nice but did get cold.
waynos, lower slopes could really do with a sprinkle of fresh, they are incredible icy. I saw 3 people in 1 hour on Wagrain being lifted off Despite the cold the pistes are very busy and I think a fair few people just can´s stop on the ice, I watched one guy plough into a group of little uns down at the bottom of the Red 8er as he simply slid on the ice, knocking them down like skittles.

holidayloverxx, ach you would have been fine!
I noticed when I did the black 24 from back of Flachau over to Topliner the snow guns were on it (about 13.00) cos it was literally a vertical ice rink, I guess they hope a sprinkle of man made stuff will make it at least a bit grippy.

Dreams do come true, been snowing steadily since yesterday and looks like 10-15cms of very dry powder at low levels so should be great conditions up the hill.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Fresh snow, excellent! The forecast suggests a further top up over the coming week.
We're off to Flachau this week-end, what time do the lifts open in Flachau on Saturdays?

FraserP, plenty of new snow for you!! If you fancy someone to show you round Flachau/Wagrain I am free all day Saturday, just you or MM drop me a pm and I´ll come over , I promise I will be on my best behaviour
Just when you think it can´t get any better, it does! Had the most fab day tree skiing over the back of Zauchensee in the lightest powder I have ever skiied in, it was like skiing through icing sugar first thing this morning, and hardly anyone off piste, all my runs were in fresh untouched powder, still damn cold though, -19 and I finally got to ski with waynos, so now I know he does exsist Was snowing steadily all day but has eased off a bit now
FraserP, take kooky up on her offer! we had a great day woth her last week
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

kooky, Good to finally meet up, we both have such hectic ski schedules, life is tough. I'm still a little doubtful you exist, there I was skiing along, stopped to see where you were and you'd disappeared, never to be seen again! The snow was very nice I stayed in Zauch for a few more runs then drove down to Altenmarkt to meet Ben for ski down under the new gondola. Interesting line we did, Ben was clearing trees as he descended, perhaps a career in logging awaits?
waynos, lol, I was waiting for you on the ridge at the bottom of the Itinerey route, saw you ski past but you didn´t see me I had to go after that last run, 5 hours non-stop took its toll on my aged legs Was an epic day tho and good to ski a few runs with you !! I think I am gonna ache tomorrow

wwwww-what, work. Have fun. I've finished up all my work until the spring, gives me time to learn some new work related skills, well according to my business plan, but that depends on the snow conditions of course.

kooky, You have a PM - I can't promise you the epic fun you had with waynos, as I am the limiting factor in the party and a pisted red will be about as good as it gets, but we would love to see you when we arrive on Saturday if that sounds like sufficient fun for you. We will have to grab some lift passes though - I think you already have my details and there is more in the PM.

We are happy to hear from other SH's whilst we are out there. We will have the internet, so easiest way to grab my attention if you don't already have my mobile is a SH's PM - can't wait to get there. All is now going swimmingly esp. now I found the ends of the locking roof bars - turned the place upside down for 2 hrs and they were in the roof box which I had previously checked .

Anybody around 25th Feb ?

Just started snowing!Light snow forecast but they said that a few days ago nd got 20cms, looking at the radar some brighter colours appearing, meaning stronger snowfall.

hey kwaka im in bad hof for a week 25th feb with my 10 year old daughter who has got a nick name of SLOW DOWN
Out skiing today, another cold one, skied around Hochwurzen, piste in great conditions early on but more hard packed as day carried on. Still some decent powder to be had, did a little with my boy who enjoyed it, particularly in the trees, far safer there than on piste! Was not too busy today, transfer day.

The woman actually fell through a bridge made of metal meshing and into a gully (I presume the sort of bridge one sometimes sees under chairlifts, my theory about them being that they are there to ensure that in an evacuation the drop from the cable to the landing doesn't exceed some specified figure).
