If you are driving through Germany most of the supermarkets sell the lateral flow tests for a couple of Euros. All employers have to offer their employees a test a couple of times a week so we simply went to the supermarket and bought a couple of boxes. Most of the staff are really not bothered but we have done a few. One test gave an inconclusive result so the person concerned went home via a local pharmacy to get a "proper" test (no different but administered by a pharmacist) which, of course, was negative.
Munich airport is doing free tests with a result in 15 minutes (with a certificate) which might help.

Are Apres ski bars allowed to open? The reason I ask is because I will be in Zell am See / Kaprun at the weekend and am wondering what to expect Apres Ski wise.

@DB, the umbrella type bars are not allowed to open but you can go to a hotel bar or restaurant bar or cafe and have as many beers in there as you like. Anywhere that pumps out music is closed but they can have ‘background’ music.
There’s still plenty open for beer o’clock just not the loud music places.

Any bars can be open as long as everyone is seated and table service is provided. No live music just background music. Oh and probably no smiling either . I think some of the umbrella type bars won't open because they can't get enough people seated to make a profit. I know one guy who isn't planning on opening until mid - late Jan because his bar at the bottom of the beginner slope doesn't see enough sun even at lunchtime for it to be feasible to sit outside most days this time of year.

So umbrella bars on the mountain are open and operating as usual with apres ski music?
You drinking at Hotel Jenewein at the bottom of the lifts in Obergurgl?

The bars open on the mountain are not the stand alone apres ski bars (umbrella style) they are ones attached to restaurants with an outside seating area or within restaurants. Those are allowed because they aren’t ‘apres ski bars or nightclubs’
That’s my observations in Mayrhofen today. So there’s still many places you can have a beer (and food if you want it) it’s things like the Ice Bar in Mayrhofen that’s closed when usually you’d hear it going on 100m metres away.

@VolklAttivaS5, are the restaurants all checking covid status on the mountain?
How about at the lifts each morning?

@Matrix, no need for the lifts to check, it's tied to your liftpass. I haven't been asked at any restaurants on the mountain. Apart from ski tourers everyone has to be ok to get up the mountain.

@Matrix, no lift checks are done as they check all the evidence thoroughly before you are allowed to buy your ski pass. So if you have a ski pass you’ve already been done….Not sure how that works with ski tourers but I suppose a lot of them own a ski pass anyway.
Yesterday I wasn’t asked for 2G proof anywhere (apart from when I bought my ski pass) but that may have been because I was sat outside initially for my lunch. Today I was asked for my 2G proof before ordering my lunch (inside at a mountain restaurant in Mayrhofen)
Just showed the Apple wallet one with the booster on it and that scanned on her machine fine.

The only Apres bar here in Obergurgl I've been asked for vax info is the Neiderhut. Proof given and you're in, music as normal, infact the whole place is fairly normal but very quiet on the slopes. Best week we have had in years. Don't let this shizzle put you off coming, it's really not a problem here.

Has anyone flown into Innsbruck with EasyJet in the last few days…just to 100% check you only need to be double vaxed…and no departure tests required (at the moment !!)

Do you mean departure tests going to Austria or returning? Pretty sure you now need them to return to UK

I came in with Tui, vax proof in Manchester, nothing in innsbruck, you're good to go. Just take 48 return tests to get back to the Boris land.

@Thunderer21, no entry tests are required for Austria, nor is a PLF if you are double vaxxed in the last 270 days.

We've been in Finkenberg for 2 days and the only time we've been asked for vaccination proof was when buying lift passes and also at Munich airport on arrival. Mask wearing on lifts also seems to be very relaxed currently.

@DB, the Niederhutte is a restaurant/mountain hut with seating inside and outside with table service so that’s why it’s allowed.
If it’s a stand alone apres ski bar (like an umbrella bar type with stools in and hardly any other seating as it’s usually a standing up drinking sort of place without table service) then those are closed. Like @Chris_n said any bar can open as long as it’s got enough seating outside or inside with table service which is why the restaurants/mountain huts serving food/hotels/cafes with bars are ok for beer o’clock but the umbrella bars haven’t got the seating area space available to make it worthwhile I guess. In the town any cafe-bars/restaurants-bars close at 11pm on the current arrangements.

To pick up on the point about mask wearing on lifts…masks are not required on purely open chairlifts i.e those without „Haube“ (the pull over covers). Certainly here in Montafon most people are following the mask wearing rules punctiliously but are not wearing them on the purely open (and therefore exempt) chairlifts..

No one can know. I’m not surprised France have done this though I think they’ve got form for dropping bombshells 2 days before a busy travel weekend haven’t they?
It wouldn’t be my choice of venue at difficult times like this.
I just feel sorry for the people who have to tell their kids they aren’t going

There are currently no suggestions that Germany will impose the sort of travel ban that France has. It isnt just the UK, the situation in Denmark is very similar and Norway not far behind. The various "lists" are often updated on a Friday afternoon so it is possible that an announcement will be made later today but currently no media rumours I have seen. I suspect a pre arrival test is more likely than any sort of travel ban maybe only those who have had a "booster" will be exempt from restrictions. All complete speculation, we cant say with any certainty what is going to be happening tomorrow let alone for Christmas!
