Once the sun came out (really the clouds dropped in height!) it was splendid and the snow brilliant on / side piste except (again) val tournanche - we went down run 7 in a pea souped and the sow was either hard or ( Lowe down) melty with grass showing through everywhere. Needs serious snow or cold to open run to vt bottom.

Interesting, thanks. I thought they were open last year fully, but visitors from certain countries had to quarantine on arrival in Switzerland. This was assessed on the basis of the prevalence of the virus in those countries? I'm coming from Ireland so would rank as EU. Last year our prevalence was at one point ok to arrive without quarantine but then that changed.
Am I wrong in that?
Last winter, the criteria for a country to be added to the "quarantine list" was if the daily new cases per 100.000 inhabitants (average in the last 14 days) was more than "60" higher than Switzerland's. On this map you can see a comparison between Switzerland and each country: https://www.covid19.admin.ch/en/international/case
That was last winter, though. Right now there's no quarantine mandate (even for countries with a much higher incidence rate), as you can see on the map below, and no clue what they might from now on.

John will surely have more info.

Cervinia's website has announced the opening of the Goillet chair on Wednesday and Pancheron on Friday.
Does anyone have idea if they may open more runs at altitude without snow making?
Where is the goillet chair and pancheron exactly?
And do you guys think the restrictions could drastically change by next weekend?( to a point where tourists can’t arrive)

Started sunny
T-shirt weather at lunch
Then the clouds rolled in around plan Maison and up to Theodulpass - vt looked better but we decided to see if they had closed the muddy gap on the blue to Cretaz (not quite - 6pm to go!). They’re testing the Cretaz chair again - I think a good chance they can get that going for the sat crowd… maybe!
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere on the thread (I checked and couldn’t find anything). We are thinking about a Zermatt trip the week before Xmas. Me, my wife and our 17 year old are all double vaxed so would be able to get paperwork sorted.
My daughter however is only 15 so a) has only had one jab b) the NHS app doesn’t show her jab so we can’t prove it.
Looking at the Canton website I think you can only be given a pass via the website with a single jab if you can prove you’ve also recovered from COVID?

I remember the Edelweiss, Cervinia yes? Great value, homely place
Is wellness open in Edelweiss or has the big C put a stop to all such activities? Think we had it to oursleves when I stayed there, had to ask them to open it up
Were the Swedish girls in Chalet Etoile asking for me? Must have been so lonely for them during lockdown...

Info on Zermatt.... hopefully someone there can confirm this is still up to date?
As of Monday 13 September 2021, mandatory certification will apply inside restaurants, cultural and leisure facilities and at indoor events. This decision was taken by the Federal Council on 8 September. The measure will remain in place until 24 January 2022.
1. The certificate requirement applies to persons aged 16 and over.
2. No certificate is required on terraces
3. Guests on terraces who do not have a certificate but need to use toilet facilities inside, for example, are required to wear a face mask. The same applies to guests who are waiting to collect take-away food
4. In places where a certificate is required, all other protective measures, such as the obligation to wear a mask, are waived.
5. The certificate requirement also applies to catering and leisure facilities in hotels. Certificates must be shown to access breakfast buffets, fitness rooms or indoor swimming pools, for example. Guests who only stay overnight in a hotel, on the other hand, are not subject to the certificate requirement. However, catering options for guests who do not have a certificate are restricted to room service.
6. The Swiss Alpine Club, for example, has also confirmed a certificate requirement for overnight stays in mountain huts.[quote]

Last day for me! Up early a bit more snow on the ground in town
The snow up top was light and fluffy and skiable with only patchy cloud.
Run all the way to Cretaz again possible but only just

If italy will close its gates to all/certain countries, usually will they give like a week’s notice or anything? or it might come out of the blue?(now with the new variant around)

Huge queue this morning to get onto lift A and not a lot of lifts running throughout the day, prob due to the winds. Great conditions nonetheless. Some fresh snow in the afternoon too.

How strong does the winds need to be in order to shut down lifts?(25-30 km/h is decent or rather high?)
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Weather for next sunday-monday shows strong winds (about 35-45 kph) with a NW direction..How bad is it?
Also today everything is closed, anyone has an idea what is the wind conditions at the moment?(website shows 15 kph but that seems unlikely)

yes kph=km/h. i dont think its as simple as that and 35 seems too low from my experience to assume that. there will be others better placed to comment but the problem weather seems to be northerly winds that pose cervinia the biggest problem and more so the earlier in the season it is. impossible to say for 7 days into the future, my only advice (for what its worth) would be to stay flexible with your options. maybe zermatt is a better option?? when i was there in jan-19 we went to Pila the day cervinia was closed and had an excellent day.

Yes seems like winds are north, just wondering how certain it is because both bergfex and snow-forecast agree on high winds next sunday.. Looks like its pretty certain, would like to hear an opinion from someone who knows to read weather pretty well, and if it’s likely for the lifts to shut..
