Hmmm, well a fine crust on everything today - even high & North... still eminently skiable though - only 5mm on top of some still soft snow.
Bit more precipitation due tonight (rain/snow limit 1600ish by all acounts) so who knows what tomorrow will bring?

Woke up to rain this morning in Les Menuires. Tried to go high but the lifts linking to VT were closed due to high winds. Retreated to La Masse and hit white outs on the summit turning to sleet half way down......which didn't stop us having a second go! As other threads are stating, large amount of snow tonight which may cause some chaos to transfers tomorrow.

Mr Piehole, Roads are clear up to La Tania, Courch, Meribel, and fairly quiet at the moment. May be tricky on lesser-used roads within the resort, but main roads are fine (despite signs in the valley advising chains obligatoire)

Quite windy today and not many lifts open. The pistes were fairly wind swept too and pretty awful visibility unless you were in amongst the trees and that's where the snow was best too. All the chairlifts seemed very slow and we had quite a few long, cold stops on some of them.

Great conditions today, especially after midday when the sun come out. Pistes are generally in fantastic condition, freshened up by the snow over the last couple of days. Off-piste is light, helped by much lower temperatures today. On the downside, slopes are the busiest I've seen since the New Year, although the crowds seemed to thin out as the upper lifts opened late morning. The UK forces championships are in Méribel - downhill training sessions were held today. Conditions in Courchevel were fantastic this afternoon once the cloud lifted. Avy risk 3.

Patch, tell me about it. Val d'Isere Follie couple of weeks ago had 1 type of beer on sale; bottles of Corona @ €8 a pop. I don't mind splashing the cash, but come on people, play fair.

Two amazing days in the 3Vs for us so far. There are some very nasty icy patches down low - Folyeres blue down to La Tania is black run difficulty due to blue ice under a thin layer of sloughed powder - but superb skiing higher up. We found a lovely little off piste run under Chatelet chair over by 1650. So good, we had to do it twice in a row.
Weather has been very kind to us considering the forecast... snowed a lot overnight and then gradually brightened during the day today. We were braced for a whiteout, and although the morning and the runs home were very gloomy and cloudy, we did most of our proper skiing in blue sky conditions.

Nonsense about the blue run down into La Tania. This morning and until well into the afternoon it was perfect, very little ice, lovely conditions from top to bottom. The courcheval valley was great today once the clag lifted but Meribel was dreadfully foggy higher up in the afternoon making vis pretty awful.

Snow stopped around midday, and the weather is starting to clear now. We had 12cm at 700m in the last 24 hours, so probably around 25cms on the summits. It could be a nice weekend!

Oh my goodness. Powder powder powder. I spent most of today unable to see my trousers. Some of that was due to appalling visibility mind you. The nervous and beginners in our group were a bit intimidated I think, but it was the stuff of dreams on steep runs and off piste. Not very far off piste either. Just by the snow blowers on any given run you could be above the knees in untouched snow. Absolutely amazing.

Aaargh, we get to Meribel tomorrow night for a week, and I'm so ridiculously impatient reading this thread...

The conditions yesterday were unbelievable. The black down from tougnete (ecureuil I think) was waist and sometimes chest deep powder from top to bottom. The skiing was magical.

Back from our week out there in La Tania. Conditions were pretty crazy all week. Thursday was certainly the deepest snow I've ever seen (people in our group more accustomed with North America said the same), and the visibility was at times brutally gloomy. Still one of the best ever weeks skiing I've had though. I clocked my first 'proper' off piste skiing (diving off past yellow danger signs, as oppose to just nipping round the poles at the side), my first powder snowboarding (80% involving digging myself out of holes whilst hooting with laughter), and Pie Jr got his Ourson badge at the ESF. Ski Magic remain the best chalet company in the world.
Just a shame I have to go back to my dreary normal life now (unemployment and skiing every day).
My only regret is that, just prior to skiing Dou Des Lanches at terrifying downhill-racer speeds, I completely forgot to shout 'LEEEEEEROY JENNNNNNNKINSSSS', as I had intended to. Sad face.
Lotsa snow, here I go!
Some rather well used off piste under Chatelet, in some of the week's sunnier conditions...
Meanwhile, in La Tania, someone wishes they'd closed their back windows...

Lots of snow all week in 3V. On Thursday we skied some of the deepest on piste snow ever - waiste deep on Sanglier black above Mottaret. Very cold yesterday and today, around -20 C on summits. Managed to ski down to Brides this afternoon which is something I've always wanted to do. Quite a bit of 'combat skiing' however where trees had blown down over the route so we had to take skies off several times. Pistes generally in great condition for half term skiers.
Off to La Rosiere tomorrow for Europa Cup moguls competition (judging). Any Snowheads in La Rosiere come and watch the moguls competitions on Monday and Tuesday.

Sun came back this morning for a short while, but very cold. Officially minus 13 at 3000, but felt much colder. Not particularly busy today, off piste conditions very light, even where it has already been chopped up

It has been cold all week. Today the communication boards of a few lifts warned for extremely cold temperatures and adviced to dress accordingly. The Bruyeres lift indicated -14 at the base station and -18 and the top station. Super nice snow! I was in Val Thorens from 2 to 9 feb with friends and I'll be in Les Menuires this week with family.
This morning was really nice. The sun stayed untill about 2. We felt it was too cold to eat outside but a couple very brave people did eat on the Courcheneige terrace next to the fire. Above Combes in Mottaret the picknicktables were also being used. In the afternoon it started snowing but at the moment nothing much is falling down anymore. Snow is expected all day tomorrow.

A little warmer today, but very poor visibility.
For anyone interested, it is currently possible to ski down to Brides, but use hire skis or rockhoppers

Amazing snow here, impossible to choose a favourite run today as so many were excellent despite the poor visibility at times. Sun forecast for tomorrow which should give everything a new flavour but today was a day of skiing fresh tracks on the pistes till lunch. Surprisingly quiet too, where is everyone?

Snow's still looking good on the webcams, how's it on the ground?
I'll be out there en famille for a week starting Saturday, stayiong in Meribel near the bottom of Morel lift. Not much snow in the forecast, but I hear that there's so much on the ground that it won't matter.
Excited!!!

alr1970, don't worry about the snow, there's more than enough. The pistes are in amazing condition and it's been quiet on the slopes so they're holding up really well. Enjoy the sunshine forecast for next, I know I'm going to!

Yes, and I see there's been more overnight. It will make a change from all the weeks where I've had ok or poor snow with a big dump on the last day ready for the next week's people to enjoy! Now it's my turn to ride the fresh stuff without having the whiteout day first.
