JohnBB, We went down to the Nordic Centre, at Pont Baudin (just up the valley from Nancroix). Really beautiful there & I can thoroughly recommend it

That had me confused for a second as 2 weeks ago they barely had snow for a run in Montchavin let along an avalanche, but I can see from the piste map that Carroley is much further up. Lots of off piste up there. You often see people going into the side areas. Sad.

What's happening in Les Arcs right now? Snowforecast was for snow overnight and all day today but from what I can gather no snow yet? Eyewitness reports appreciated

I've just looked at all the web cams and it looks like no snow has fallen at all .
On another note and off topic (I know) but it's a quicky. Does anyone know if the Intersport at Plan Peisey has a good selection of goggles to buy? I have a pair of decent smith goggles with a mirrored lens but need a flat light pair. Was looking at Bolle carve for £30 inc delivery but ran out of time. Are the prices much more expensive in France for gear?
Cheers

mini_mo, Intersport Sport 2000 (Noz sports) & Twinner in Plan Peisey all seem to have a good range of goggles this year - no idea about the prices - I can have a look later & report back.
By the way, for anyone in Peisey Vallandry at the moment, Jean Pouye and his brothers are playing their Franco-Argentinian tango music up at Au Plante au Baton tonight at 9pm - well worth going to
Also, I mentioned on another thread that this year in the tourist office magazine, they are advertising a paying shuttle that meets trains at Landry station & takes you up to the resort. The tel no for further info is +33 (0) 4 79 55 64 76.

No snow at the moment here in 1950, and nothing overnight either. Overcast but fine, fingers crossed for later today.

Sorry I didn't add any updates yesterday - had to return to the UK overnight on Wednesday, so was out of wifi range. Couple of friends still in our place in 1950 seem to be enjoying themselves tho' (grrr) so I guess it isn't all bad.
Not cheap, but very good restaurant added to the 1950 portfolio - the Vache Rouge. £40 for three good quality courses, inc. wine and beer. Not somewhere for everyday possibly, but is getting a bit of a following.
genepi, Aguille Rouge on Wednesday was listing a 45 min wait at top of Varet... presumably fewer people today! Been following your injury woes and reports on here for a while - do you think you are you going to get skiing at all this season?

For those of you interested in learning a little more about Les Arcs I can't but recommend signing up for the blog run by the owner of this site. He does post here (sorry forgot your username ) and yes he does run a business but the blog is not about his business (ok he mentions it sometimes, so what!) but the blogs make fascinating reading.

mini_mo, As promised, I had a look in the 3 sports shops opposite, & they have loads of goggles ranging from 37euros (in Nos Sports) to 140euros - & also Oakley ones in a cabinet with the price labels out of sight! I didn't see the Bolle ones you'd liked, though.

Very sad, only 20 yrs old, I was skiing there on the Saturday before & considered off-piste, but the checkered flags were out & we decided not to.
Equally, we travelled from les Coches right across les Arcs twice to ski the Bois d'Ours, but it was closed. Despite this on both occasions there were several people on the run. We didn't ski it, but it was SO tempting.
It's so easy to be tempted into places you shouldn't be. We're home now, but to you lucky guys who are still there or anticipating your trip - stay safe & be careful.

Conditions yesterday were suprisingly good, about 10cm of fresh over a hard base. Light varied from ' where has my hand gone' to a couple of hundred meters during gaps in the cloud.
Forecast is for snow all week, but its not snowing now and I can see the lights of Arc 2000 clearly from our room in 1950.
Off to get the first lift and hopefully some fresh tracks

I am in Les Arcs too this week. Snow quality is very good with the recent top-ups. This excludes the lower parts of the Vallandry runs which have some stones and small icy spots. Today was excellent with fresh snow and sun untill about 3pm. After that the sun sort of disappeared and then reappeared as she liked. It was not too cold. Higher up some wind. And more snow is on the way tomorrow. This week was our first time skiing the area and we were pleasantly surprised

Last day (well 3 hours) today. Dumped all day yesterday and all upper lifts closed including ridge between 2000 and 1800. Must have been bad day in 2000. If aiguille rouge open will beeline for there and hopefully loads of fresh powder (for first run or 2 anyway).
Cloudy now and more snow forecast this afternoon and night. For those arriving this week it couldn't be better

Les Arc radio said this morning that wind is high today, and more snow forecast for later today. Already 25cm.has fallen late yesterday afternoon and evening. Aiguille Rouge closed all day today - strong winds. Long range forecasts promise more snowfalls in next three days. School half terms starting , so perfect timing.

ChinxSkis, true! Besides the snowy days there were a number of sunny ones. We stayed in Vallandry in the Oree des Cimes apartment complex which I would definitely recommend. As it was a low season week the price / value was really good.

just back from a few days in LA/LP and conditions were 9 out 10 with only the lower runs down to the satellite resorts getting scraped hard in the apres midi
Lots of fresh P*O*W which even tempted a dyed-in-the-wool piste basher like me off the cor-der-roy
Weather was lively!
