Poster: A snowHead

If you pause the clip at the point where she lands the jump her right leg is extended, her left is flexed. The right leg could not absorb the impact and the knee joint gave way.
Quite scary. I really feel for her. Hope she recovers quickly both physically and mentally.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Having done something very similar I can see what happened. It's not her right leg but her left leg which caused the issue, for some reason she did not land it totally flat and it shoots out (away from the camera) sideways leaving her bent right leg to (unexpectedly) take the full strain of the landing - {snap}. Nasty and it takes some time to heal with no weight on the leg. Took me about three months to get back to 'normal' after the cast came off. That said I had to 'walk out' across some really nasty terrain so I know I did some further damage on the way.
Wish her well and hope to see her speeding down the slopes soon.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

That clip doesn't show half of it...
The clip I saw (sorry, national tv - not available abroad) did not have commentary, so you could hear how Lindsey cries in agony. Some of you are making jokes, but she is really in pain.
I really hope she makes a quick and full recovery and comes back an even stronger athlete.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

SkiingDad, That was also on BBC red button coverage, I turned the volume down as I wasn't comfortable hearing her crying in pain and left the room as I was less comfortable with the re-runs of the accident.
On another note I was astounded at the helicopter trip from the slope to the medical centre. 2 medics and LV on the end of what a 50m cable transported for how far? Impressive
Hope she recovers speedily.

halfhand, Yes, it really gets to you, doesn't it?
I guess the medics need to be there to ensure a safe landing. Also, it could probably be quite frightening to dangle there all alone.

gatecrasher, I assume BBC red button had the main TV channel feed which resulted in showing several re-runs, slow-mos oh and with full sound enabled - after the initial fascination of OMG what happened there, it did seem a bit over the top.

Chemmys was worse to watch!! probably because you can see her leg more clearly than lyndsey, and having broken a number of bones over the years, yes sometimes it flippin hurts!!!

I am sure she just wants to get home but IMV the best surgeons are the ones doing this type of operation every other day with years of experience behind them and they are based at Innsbruck hospital.

She was taken to Schladming hospital, so it was 2, max 3km flight. Chopper can't land on slope, so rope is only option, and if they would land close to finish area, flight wouldn't be much shorter (there's still about 500m from place where she fell to nearest parking), and then they would need to put her into ambulance and through Schladming to hospital, so trip would take 30mins instead of 1min. And this rope thing is pretty much standard procedure for all such cases, as well as 90% of mountain rescues (at least in Alps).

Spinout,
I'm sure Lindsey will get the very best care money can buy.
Edit: Not to be flippant. I really admire her and wish her the best.

You know it makes sense.

iskar, actually it varies there are a number of specialist hospitals around the world who deal in such things, I know that Interlaken Hospital in the Bernese Oberland has been a specialist center for something like 30 years now and last I heard has a very good reputation, however there's may also be an element of comfort in being able to talk to your surgeons and doctors in English as a first language rather than a second.
