Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

sd2010, Sounds like v similar conditions to last year then, pity. We had three years of fantastic snow in Jan whilst other areas had little. Have considered booking some off-piste guiding/instructing with son but sounding like it may not be worth it. I guess the Rocher Noir and Carmen are pretty bumpy then!
Real pity about the Chamois, we always found it a great place and the staff very accomodating - sounds like that's alll changed.

philipb, Still a bit forecast for the weekend and the latter end of next week is shaping up well, so dont lose the faith wink It always sounds worse than it is when back in Blighty.

The Chamois does sound a Shame.

Lets be honest the food was always OKish but the staff were great. You cant beat Family run places.

Roughneck, I was out playing in the trees today and actually ended up in some powder - OK it was only ankle deep on my boots, but it felt fresh and was in really good condition considering it last snowed on 5th Jan. I had a ball in it. The wife was furious as she had gone and got some carvers instead of her all mountain Wink

Excuse lack of names - it was far left chairlift from midway 14/1600 as look up mountain, drop down slightly along resort boundary and see yellow hors piste sign. Really easy minute hike up and then drop in to trees all the way down to 1400, cutting across occasional cross-country track on way. Just had to dodge lot of roots and carry speed at places. Unfortunately didn't have decent camera with me, but took some off little cam that had with me and will see if can post if connection out here will let me upload.

Also hopped off pendine chair, cut out western resort boundary today and dropped through the trees as far as could, was nowhere near as nice as eastern side of resort and as dropped down, snow gave way to grass in parts.

philipb, one of the guides today actually said off piste from top of pendine to the village in the valley was terrible at moment. But - in a lot of places theres a decent base , so even a few cm will hopefully be enough if the layers meld together. I reckon I'll still be playing in the trees when you arrive or off piste if any going - as long as don't mind coffee stops - say hello. Am easy to spot with yellow skis Toofy Grin

You asked for some extra tips - i have reviewed the notes i made (forgive me if it is old hat to those more experienced).
I needed 2 teatowels, a couple of jaycloths and a roll of pedal bin liners (for sick bags and rubbish bags). I also took some pasta and a packet sauce in my suitcase in case i got there too late for the shops.
This year i will pack everyone a pair of ski socks in their hand luggage so i can troop them off to the ski shop straight away, so we can get hello kitty skis (husband a big fan Very Happy ) or wait till after 6pm when the shop quietens down. I am taking some spice mixes for the cooking, and a pair of scissors.
Hope that helps, fingers crossed it starts to dump eh?

Looks like there'll be some fresh snow just before we get there.

It's well worth a go, and unless it's just a really boring flat circuit, much more challenging than you might think. Balancing on very thin skis with no metal edges, with free heels, isn't easy!

Thanks - do you think it'll be too much of a challenge with a knee problem?

I rang Wendy and for x country and snow shoeing activities, these need to be booked in resort
Roughneck, I'm sure there's a cash machine in the resort but we never used it. I also recall the supermarket taking credit cards. BTW the supermarket is quite small - I guess about the same as anywhere you'd find in a ski resort. We tend to pack our own cereals and snack bars and other goodies, as much as we can carry! I think it might be closed on Sundays or at least during lunchtimes (someone else will probably correct me on this) so worth making sure you have some food for when you arrive.
Anyhow I'm guessing you're off this weekend? Have a fab time and let us know how you all got on.
