Timbobaggins, dry bums have been had here with Tresspass, Bonfire, O'Neill, Protest and Dynastar at various times. Any pair of board trousers should keep your bum from getting wet, to be honest. Ski-specific trousers less reliable in my experience, not designed for lots of contact with the snow.

I have an old Surfanic jacket, wear it now mostly for snow clearing/wood stacking/dog walking etc and is still going strong, and it wasn't too expensive really when new ! Pretty good quality i think for the money

I always feel It does not matter if you paid £400 or £80 for a Jacket and it's going to catch on the chair or get your ski edges across it it will hurt but hurt a lot less at £80 and a £400 item will not be greatly stronger. |
That's not strictly true, not in all cases anyway. Goretex, for example, is only really defined by its membrane layer... a manufacturer can specify their own face fabric. Most don't, but some (eg. Arcteryx) use a noticably harder wearing face. It still isn't worth the massive price premium unless you're mountaineering or ice climbing or whatever... if you're not expecting to drag it across a rock face every time you take it out, you may as well go for a perfectly good cheap version. There'll be less chance of 'catching' climbing-oriented gear too, but how much difference that makes in real life I dunno.

This. Enough of my snowboarding friends have said the same thing for me to believe it... given that they spend an inordinate amount of time sitting in the snow, I guess they know what they're talking about.

I have just taken delivery of a £60 Dare 2 b ski jacket ordered online for my daughter. I will probably be sending it back as the zips look so flimsy, velcro pieces tiny and plastic poppers. Have brought down her current Surfanic jacket (also £60) to compare and the Surfanic jacket is much more robust - nice chunky zip, better quality material, metal poppers, strong velcro. I'll be looking for another surfanic one.

Hi, must say bought a Surfanic ski jacket and was really pleased with it, had all the bells and whistles. But useless on the slopes, it was soaking wet after each day's skiing, others I was with had goretex and were dry. I had campri vest and regatta fleece under jacket these were virtually dry all the moisture went to the jacket even with vent open it got soaked. Complained to Surfanic and they said get a refund from supplier, they were not interested, I won't be buying Surfanic ski jacket again.

I had Surfanic stuff for a few seasons.
There was a manufacturing problem with one pair of trousers and the customer service was amazing.
They sent me a replacement set of trousers and a jacket and gloves! Can't argue with that!!!
I would certainly buy the brand again and know that it would last 120 ski days easily. They just don't stock in Austria.
D2B is a different 'brand' out here. It is a mid-to-high-market brand. In the UK they went for quantity but still stock with quality!
An £80 D2B jacket in the UK will be priced at the €200 mark.
....my best ski trousers... €15 on ebay. They were yellow so I bought them. Lasted 2 seasons. One and a half seasons they were waterproof too!

No problems with my 20k surfanic stuff in the rain in Jan this year, kept very dry, only dampness was around the cuffs where my gloves had got soaked

my kids have got some recent surfanic stuff and I have to say it is much improved - think the "own label" technical fabrics have got much better.

I've had some quite expensive shell pants that haven't done better than that but my arcteryx gamma shell sallopettes are now 8 years old and still entirely waterproof, bit faded but no real signs of wear. Pretty amazing.
