TJBaldwin,
So conditions were really good at Nakiska today up top which is where the races will be (they were prepping netting on Whoop up and Mapmaker is already fully netted). I would say almost perfect racing conditions. A little choppy down near base as was fairly near 0 degrees; but you won't be skiing down there. Now dumping in Calgary, literally 7-8cm in one hour. Thought flurries were forecast so not sure what is happening on hill now and not sure how bad the roads will be getting there.
Enjoy the hot tub at the Delta! Hope Canada is kind to you..............

Day 1 at Nakiska and it was a good one! I got drawn bib 16 so had a great opportunity to do something in the race and I grabbed it with both hands! I had a few small mistakes in my run but I skied the key parts of the course well and carried good speed over the flats. I came into the finish in 2nd place so I just had the nervous wait to see if anyone behind me came down in a fast time. A couple of people did, one of them tied it up for first place which meant I ended up finishing in 4th, just 0.5 behind. I scored a 20.84 which is my best ever result in SG by 5 points! Absolutely stoked! I am starting to see all the hard work I did over the summer pay off and it feels great
There is still plenty more to come and with there being another SG tomorrow in which I have bib 10, the win is well within my grasp!

Been away for a couple of weeks, so have only just seen this. This is mint ! Fantastic to hear this experience from the horses mouth.
TJ - is it a mad rush from the moment you land at the next race or do you get any spare time for some recreational skiing or anything else ?

The second day in Nakiska didn't go quite as I had planned but never mind, you win some and you lose some. The course was set a little bit more open than the day before and the only thing I did was over ski it which meant I wasn't letting the ski run. Not too disappointed though as the previous day was a great result!
So after NakiskaI flew strait back to London and went back home for a few days of recovery. It was really nice being in my own bed while battling my jet lag and getting to see the family and my girlfriend. These opportunities don't come too often through the winter!
Now I am back out in the Alpes where there still isn't a huge amount of snow, lots of races still being cancelled but I checked for forecast and it looks like snow may be on its way! Hopefully not too much though as I am Val Gardena for the world cup! Today I trained some SG on the warm up hill with some Canadians and US guys and wow, what a wake up call! It was dark, fast and very bumpy but after some days off skis it was exactly what I needed to be ready for the first training run tomorrow!
ArseneWengen, Glad you are enjoying the blog! The programme throughout the season is pretty hectic moving from place to place racing and when we do get spare time we spend it recovering from long periods of days on. So I don't really get a chance to go out and cruise around the mountain, would be nice if I did though!
I will try and get some more videos of me racing uploaded soon, just need to grab the clips of my coach and put the runs together into one clip.

Thanks for sharing those TJ...Lake Louise didn't look much fun.
I have a question. Being one of the smaller lighter skiers, how much do you think this is a disadvantage for you...if at all?
If so...will you being looking to bulk up and gain weight?
I hope you don't mind me asking.
Keep up the good work, we're all cheering you on back home.

Happy New Year all Snowheads!
So the new year is under way and it got off to a pretty good start. I took the 1st off so today was my first day skiing in 2012. I trained GS in Hintereit which is just up the valley from Zell am See. Its a tough piste with a few roles up top and a step pitch in the middle and flat at the bottom. For GS and SL its the place to be, the conditions there are normally amazing! Sadly today the conditions where not so good, it has been snowing for a few days until yesterday when it turned to rain! So today the snow was very soft and to make things worse there was cloud sitting right over the hill, except maybe the first 2 gates. Typical! Even so, I skies 6 runs and made some good progressions through out the day and started to get my GS mojo back!
Before Christmas I was in Val Gardena for the world cup. WOW, what a course! As you can see from the video I posted a few weeks ago, there are lots of jumps and terrain. The only thing you cant quite see on the video is actually how long and high the camel jump is in the middle of the course...its huge! Still, its a great course to ski, very fun! It was my first time there for me and both Doug and Ed have skied there before so I knew I was going to have to learn the course fast and ski well if I was to get the spot for the race. Sadly I didn't ski well and unfortunately I had some back luck with the weather on the first training run (which was a complete disaster)! To make matters worse, the night after the first training run and before the second run, I was up all night with a sickness bug. So when it came to skiing, even though I wasn't feeling to bad, I just had no energy and was stumping out by the time I got to Ciaslat (crazy cool roly section). It was safe to say I didn't have the performance of my life over the 2 days but non the less I had great fun getting to know the course and I will take what I have learnt back there next year ready to rip!
I will be off to Wengen on the 5th for two FIS SG's before I then head over to Val D'Isere for some Europer Cup downhills. Yeah Buddy!!!!
