Very pleased Chiecco is getting some mentions - we popped in a couple of years ago in mid April during a blizzard, and spent an awesome couple of hours stuffing ourselves. Then stepped outside and skied fresh powder in bluebird skies for the rest of the afternoon...pretty magical. Dog could do with a diet though.
I'd also add a vote for L'Arollet in le Fornet (took some meat-loving friends there this year and they claimed it did the best steak they've ever had), and the place in Alpe D'Huez near the bottom of Sarenne.
La Bricole in La thuile would have been top of my list, but I hear it's now sadly no more...

Ricklovesthepowder, quite agree that the views from here are stunning - its our regular stop for hot chocolate when we are skiing over there. It was open the other day when we were walking - but we went down to Champery.

its quite expenxive but the food is amazing. i go every year at least once. The new lifts in that sector are great aswell. Whatever you do, dont do that long red at the top of the piste map that goes behind the ridge ( piste map shows it as dotted red line). The top 1/3 is great, but from there on it its a poling job!!!

Ricklovesthepowder, there isn't an alternative ski down is there?
Ma'coquoz isn't my favourite but it's been years since I ate there.

Ricklovesthepowder, think you mean the Ripaille - you have to keep the speed up and its not too bad - lovely one to do once a year though. We have never eaten at Ma'coquoz.

Gotta agree, the Hospiz Alm in St Christoph, along with Blatten and Fluhalp in Zermatt. Mouth is watering at the thought of them

Not quite in the league of some mentioned here, but Mohnenfluh in Oberlech was pretty good this year. Delicious and at a reasonable price.

ulmerhutte, It is in the league of others on here! Great food, sitting on the balcony! Slow service though, but you can watch the skiers pass in front and enjoy the sunshine!

Yet another vote for the Hospitz, I once had a long Christmas day lunch there, the bill seemed most reasonable, after having paid and departed, we realized we hadn't been charged for the drinks!!

My favourites/best are;
Val D'Isere- Edelwise (scallops and linguine) at le Fornet and Fruitiere (duck shepard's pie)
Chamonix- Cremerie des Glacieres (any of their croutes) and Hotel le Refuge (anything with pudding)
La Grave- Refuge Chancel (Vacherin with spuds/meat and salad)

ed123, oh, yes, yes, la Fruitiere is mighty fine.
Umm, Le Refuge Chamonix? Do you mean the Chalet-Refuge de Lognan? Which leaves me a little cold I will confess.

ChrisWo, just not that impressed. Un-inventive menu (especially if you haven't reserved in advance) and far from delightful welcome. And, That's not just from a sample of one visit. Been there a few times, when I absolutely have to (group pressure).
I fear it's a problem based on being the only independent restaurant on the hill (the Cremerie is not on the hill). Much like the Panoramic at Brevent. €9.50 for a pint? Having a laugh.
Oddly, it's exactly the opposite at the charming and lovely "Alpage de Balme" - very welcoming, simple but great food.

under a new name, fair enough - I do remember thinking that the menu was quite limited. We got a pretty friendly welcome, but the place was quite quiet at the time. Having said that, I remember feeling much the same about the Cremerie - limited menu and not that amazing a welcome when we were last there (busy that time though).
Is Alpage de Balme the tiny place on the far side of Le Tour? Didn't stop there, but it looked pretty good.

Chez Marie in Le Miroir ,Haute Tarentaise near Ste Foy at the end of the 17k 2200 m desent from the Le Rutur Glacier in Italy after a morning heli skiing , best in Tarentaise so say the french and they know what there talking about .

Rob Mackley, that place is extremely good, although a little off the beaten track!
also good for recharging after the north face of the foglietta accessed from St Foy.

under a new name, maybe I rate Chalet-Refuge more for what it means to be there than the food. If I'm eating lunch there then it means; I'm in Chamonix, have just skied down from the Grands Montets, am usually with my wife- skiing is just about the only time we get to eat together with our kids and it means we will then ski down Varient-Hotel whether open or not- and have great fun in the trees/bushes/stumps and rocks...... before fighting Germans on the bus to get back to Chamonix in time to get the boys.......

ed123, fair enough. We haven't tried the Cremerie though, (or rather we tried late last season to be told we always needed to reserve). It was rammed. Which is maybe a good sign (or indicative of the competitive environment).

under a new name, Cremerie, good for traditional basic fare like Croutes and Fondues. Also relatively cheap and we found service to be good. It's the pick of the limited optons at GM.
Refuge De Lognan is a nice little place and the food is good (if limited menu) but the service is consistently frosty. particularly if you haven't booked in advance in which case the guy often refuses to serve you the Plat du Jour.... Also important to note that it's either a 10 min walk up the snow track or a steep, mogully route through the trees down to Pierre-a-Ric.

BobinCH, yeah Cremerie looked good enough for that sort of stuff. We've talked about going there many times (but could never find it, how pathetic is that?) The one time we did get there it was rather late, and full so can't complain that they couldn't accommodate us. We ended up eating in the bar opposite the chairlift at base - which was very friendly, excellent service and a a wider selection.
The Lognan has only ever seemed to offer croutes. I think it may even have done so with a prior reservation. And "frosty", yes... that'll be the word. The trail down to Pierre a Ric is worth doing in its own right though, lovely stuff.

For you certainly, for me maybe (moguls and tight trees on Kuros ), for my old dad never. I ended up having to bribe the waiter in the Refuge to take him up the track by Skidoo.... It was that or carry him myself!

Have we mentioned Chez Danny in Verbier? Whilst not exactly cheap, I've never had anything less than a very splendid lunch there, and if you linger (as one always does at Chez Danny) it's only a short slide down to the Furry Shoval to continue the revelries, possibly popping into the Farinet for a few, and thence into oblivion.....

Chez Dany very nice, particularly sitting outside on the deck on a Spring afternoon. Les Marmottes (Savoleyres) and Carrefour the other 2 good ones in Verbier.
