Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Gainz, I’ve been to Venice twice, first time with the Mrs well before kids and second time after a trip to San Cassiano with kids. First time, we arrived after dark, following a long delay and went by ferry after believing the hype that it was just as good as a water taxi. Romantic it was not, sitting inside with a throbbing diesel engine. When using ferries to get around during the day, sitting outside is great though, as long as you get a spot out of the wind. Second time we got a water taxi from the airport which was expensive but worth it to do once. Think it would be even better if you have accommodation that is accessible by taxi but a trek from the ferry (usually San Marco). The best public transport is getting a Traghetto, cheap and fun.

My experience was a warm late summer morning and it's a larger ferry boat on that route, so we were all on deck as the towers and domes appeared as we crossed the lagoon. The basin of St Marks is magical with the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, the church of Santa Maria Salute at the tip of the Dorsoduro and the Campanile and Doge's Palace, it has been the subject of many works of art...
I guess the boats from the airport dock on the other side of Venice, perhaps not so spectacular?!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

There is a Traghetto service from the airport with different route options, some take you in to the Grand Canal via islands on the way, it takes about 1.30 hrs which is about the same as getting the bus from the airport to Venice and then a Traghetto down the Grand Canal to St Marks, if the weathers nice the water route is by far the best option.

Would it be a choppy journey in winter? Mrs isn't seafaring at all.
I did have a look at advanced booking but it appears our dates are sold out. Is this possible or still too early? 2nd to 4th March
