Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Good resort to buy a place

@bambionskiis, not what you want to hear, but I’d suggest buying a place in a ski resort, for great winter and summer experiences, and getting long term rental properties close to the sea in the spring and autumn. That way you wouldn’t be fixed to the same coastal area each time and could explore no end of different countries. Living a distance away from ski areas would, for me, take away much of the enjoyment.

As an example, from Austria we’ve driven just a few hours to spend lengthy holidays in Cannes, Croatia and Italy, staying in out of summer season rental properties.

Just one word of caution: cheap flights are not a Law of Nature. 25 or so years ago, the idea of a £45 flight to Geneva or further afield to more 'secondary' airports like Montpellier would have been improbable. I only ever flew to places like Nice on business and it was hundreds of £s for a return. If you're planning to 'shuttle' between the UK and any destination then you have to ask yourself whether (a) non-hub routes like Montpellier might disappear and (b) prices might not return to 1990's levels? Now, governments will be under pressure to subsidise uneconomic airlines but I wonder how much they'll be prepared to do that just for the convenience of tourists, versus spending the same money on (re)building jobs in manufacturing and business of more direct, local benefit?

I remember back in the 2002 when we were considering buying abroad, it was Florida and Morocco that were all the rage (yes, Morocco). In my small town, there was even an estate agent specialising exclusively in Florida and a few Spanish places. Property forums I was on had people telling me to forget The Alps - Bulgaria was the place to buy. But we decided that we'd only buy somewhere we could drive to conveniently, so had an alternative if a route was dropped, or a hub became expensive to fly to: but there were plenty of people who told me that this was too limiting.

@bambionskiis, Nassfeld, Austria. Fabulous in Summer and a bit of a hidden gem in winter. https://www.nassfeld.at/en/service/urlaubs-infos/infrastuktur-a-z/tourism-office_infrastructure_4617
