^^^^ so almost a full house of lift operations in the north (Allenheads excepted)....before the snow is obliterated in the warm temperatures and rain over the next few days....

Can't complain so far, though. Day 2 of useable local skiing - and before Xmas OK, so visability was poor today: but I've known worse overseas.
There might even be day 3 tomorrow.

After seeing what looked like fair cover on the Raisecam, Mrs MA and I hiked up there yesterday – 1hr 45 mins from the Thirlmere side to the point where we got our touring skis on at Sticks Pass. From there, it was skinning all the way (with a couple of short, grassy breaks to begin with) to a point just above the top of the ski tow. By the time we started our first run down it was snowing heavily, with very wet snow falling.
Cover was pretty decent on the main run, with a couple of narrow sections. There was also a nice, wide run down on lovely snow, back towards the pass. The lift could have been open with either a fair bit of shovelling at the bottom (and more shovelling at another small break higher up), or by loading from above the bottom. There was lovely soft snow from the top, which became heavier and a bit sticky near the bottom of the run. The visibility came and went, the snow turned to rain and we ended up pretty soaked through (sopping cheap gloves – urrggghhhh!!) for the 75 minute hike down, which we finished in the dark, with head torches.
Still, it’s always good to get some turns in on home snow and we enjoyed the trip out. Lovely coffee and cake at the Lodge in the Vale hotel to warm us up and round off a good - but somewhat challenging - day (6hr round trip for about 400m vertical of skiing)

Pennines weather outlook is suggesting cold weather and snow possible from next Sunday night...
So it's everything crossed as the snow dances continue....

@mountainaddict, And only very, very mildly blustery before it no doubt all bugs orf again.

Doesn't look like there's anything useable on Yad yet, but a good fall expected Thursday early hours onwards.
Roads could be issues, Yad and Weardale? (And Allenheads?)
Friday too windy?
Peter S..?

Raise was operational today. Probably just about enough snow at Yad Moss today but very strong winds the next 3 days.

Weardale was open all day today, but road access dodgy. I guess that vis wasn't great either. Hopes to open tomorrow morning until rain comes in.
Allenheads ditto, had 15cm at start, though melting off quick, I guess.

Raise was open today. Looks predominantly below freezing and more snow all week except a mild blip tomorrow afternoon. Raise could have a lot of snow by next weekend. Direction is not good for Yad Moss. Need a bit more southerly in the wind.

^^^^^Hoorah! Ta for that Sweeney Todd. Hadn't seen that on either Raise or Weardale websites...
A great saving vs the usual £30 for a day. Will try & take advantage at some point.

Report from Raise in the Manchester Evening News |
Good report despite:
- the reference to Raise being a ski 'resort' and
- no mention of the ascent of up to 2 hours (for non-members at least as they need to park further away) to reach the ski lift.
Mancunian snowsports enthusiasts may be in for a shock...

Weardale ran F1 today. Too windy for F2.
Yad Moss hopefully being inspected and pisted later today for possible operation later this week.

Great report from Raise today. Both the President’s and Savages gulley are well filled. More snow fell during the day. Raise hope to run again on Wednesday.
More showers expected at Yad Moss tonight and tomorrow which may make a small difference in advance of running again on Wednesday. Day tickets will be available.

Windy day at Weardale on Sunday but good cover on the main runs off F1. F2 Tow was off due to the wind, which was loading the upper part of the fell. Todays reports 30 lines being skiable; that's most of what's on offer. Some lines will still be a bit esoteric rather than full cover in some sections to get back to F1. If you're Pennine curious it's worth a look.

Raise and Yad Moss both operational tomorrow Wednesday from 10:30. Day tickets will be available at Yad Moss. Just the main run skiable. Much more snow up at Raise but a lot longer walk in

Weardale. Looking at the snow reports for today - skiing not quite matching Monday for snow quality but still attracted 100 or so people and a Ski Sunday film crew. I was beginning to think the prospect of the latter was jinxing this and last season!
One of the usual tow road issues has cropped up - it's been a while but... IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO ACCESS THE SKI TOWS FROM NEWBIGGIN ON THE TEESDALE SIDE. The plough only usually goes as far as the last farm which is a couple of miles from the summit and the descent into weardale is steep / icey. Makes a good summer bike ride though - check out the Chapel Challenge route on strava and the like. I was over the St John's to Langdon Beck road on Sunday and this was clear / snow mostly being blown off that side of the hill.
More unusually there's also reminder of the advice around the government's self isolation for returners from virus hot spots such as Northern Italy.
