@ulmerhutte,
So you are are ski instructor? If so, I'll book some lessons with you at Falls next season. As for ski days, I manage a week at Snowheads BB Arabba each year and 2 -3 days most weeks at Falls during the season.

At first I managed 1or2 weeks per season and occasionally 3. Last season I pushed the boat out and did 5 weeks but that was definitely a one off... Hence this time it's probably going to have to be 6

When I lived in the UK it was two weeks maximum. There was no way I could afford more and time off work was always an issue.
The answer was simple, move to the mountains. This seemed an even better plan after the horrible and divisive referendum result and the likely negative impact that would have on my career.
I now live and work in Austria, I work 4 days a week, allowing 3 days a week ski time, plus any annual leave or accrued overtime I might like to dedicate to skiing.

Better question would be how many days do you ski waist deep powder |
All of them.
But then I get bored very quickly and have lots of other things to waste time on.
It's definitely quality over quantity, for me. For most people who aren't otherwise restricted, I'd say.
In Snowbird it's common for people to ride the first couple of hours after a storm, then to go and do something else whilst the masses have at it.
The idea of riding when there's no fresh - why?

This.
For the rest of us masses on your 1 or so weeks per season, you'll go out and ski/ ride whatever the snow gods decree!

Live in UK. Have a full time job. Kids in senior school and have to travel for work as well, so not as many as I'd like but there we go. We do the week before Xmas and leave just before New Year. A long weekend in January with friends - him one weekend, me the other and Easter a week or two depending on snow quality. Not been in February for over 10 years as it is so busy and I go to China every year in March, so just too much.

About 12 days in Scotland & we had 5 days in NZ over the last year. Having recently returned to skiing after about 30 years away I'd love to do more but I don't have any more free time, what with work & other interests.

Besides the because it's still fun point it's actually how you really get better - anyone can ski/ride in perfect conditions but I've seen "conditions snobbery" become quite the self defeating trap for seasonnaires. I had housemates in Whistler who didn't ride for over 2 weeks because there wasn't any fresh. Guess who couldn't keep up with the rest of us who were out every day riding increasingly cruddy stuff when the good stuff came again?

3-4 weeks (really 3 long weeks and a weekend) for the last few years. Will actually be 3 weeks this year as I'm sneaking of for a week of summer mountaineering
I totally buy the argument that a great powder day is worth many days of average conditions.
But a day in average conditions is still a good day by my reckoning.
I love:
a) carving up a nice crisp piste
b) just being out in the fresh air on a sunny day
c) skiing steeps slopes in grippy chalk two weeks after a snow fall
d) hunting the spring snow then taking a long lunch
e) going out for a tour which is more about a day in the mountains than the downhill
f) even skiing by feel in poor vis for a couple of hours to earn a proper lunch
One of the things I really enjoy about skiing is blending all the hard won skills to tweak the technique to the conditions even if that means skiing something a bit unpleasant with a degree of competence.
Honestly I'll be really sad and a little ashamed the day I feel "meh, no powder what's the point"

Oh and another thing - sometimes some of the best days in the mountains emerge when you get out when others don't and the weather changes - the temperature drops, the skies clear. If you don't buy a ticket you are not going to win.

I think I have really got this nailed in the last year. By skiing and boarding, I've always got something to interest me.
If it's a powder day, I'm off piste on a board. If it isn't, I'm carving around, on piste, on skis.
I'm on target for around 40 days this season, maybe more.

Between 4 and 7 weeks per year in alps and a couple of days in Scotland if conditions are ok when im free.

For us managed two weeks last year and two weeks booked for this season. Before that managed one other year with two weeks but outside that has only been one.

Last season was a record 22 days and this year I have 17 planned so far and I hope for another long weekend on top of that

Usually try and get two weeks abroad each year, then as many days as possible on snow here - mostly xc, but some downhill and touring. Plus I'm usually skiing every Thursday night at my not so local ski club all year round plus some races over the summer.

Average of 60 odd days/season used to be 80, but damage and age have cut it back. So thankful it's 15 min to the Mtn makes life easier. Get every day you can in all conditions and then snob out as you age, my best advice after 54 seasons starting on the 55th this season 28 Alpine and on my 27th of telemark. You'll only be another year older if you put it off.

Hi Steve... no, not an instructor. Just like my skiing!
If you are looking great instructors at Falls, then from personal experience, I can recommend Peter Steiner. He is a L4 instructor. He is patient and has the ability to demonstrate moves at speeds much slower than mere mortals can turn. Need to book early - Pete is always heavily booked.
I have heard great things about Macca and Rover (I kid you not about the name). They are also senior instructors. I have not however skied with them. Women who have skied with a Kerry Lee, ie Steve Lee’s sister, have raved about their experience.
Hope that helps.

I'll probably do 22 across five trips this winter. What is a day's skiing though? Sometimes I might only be on the hill for a couple of hours, but I'll probably do more in that time than most recreational skiers manage in a day.

WHat do you mean by more? Given that most skiers manage at least six hours in a day and uplift takes up a fair porportion of that time I am sceptical.

I read somewhere that most skiers on ski trips only ski 3 hours per day and was amazed. Then I looked at my own statistics and once I had taken out lunch, cofee breaks and most importantly standing in lift queues and lifts that was about it. We stayed in St Anton once and from leaving the front door at 9:00 to starting skiing was 1 hour 30. Zermatt was even longer. OK now I go mainly to French resorts so spend less time in queues but the time actually sliding down the hill is suprisingly small
