@Robin Agogo, @Robin Agogo, yes, I know regular snowHead bashers will be very familiar with the Dolomites area.
If any newbies have any questions before departure, or want any of the map/info images sent by phone or email, happy to do that.
PS Hope the pole dance training going well

Great pics, glad you enjoyed, though it would be hard not to!!
Colfosco restaurant is the Luianta. Regular pit stop of ours on our last trip 2 years ago. Considering the food quality, I was always amazed it was never busier!! |
Actually I think Luianta is the name of the hotel accommodation associated with it, I think the restaurant is actually called the Mathiaskeller. I agree it's very good, it's one of my favourite lunchtime stops when doing the Sella Ronda. The bar stools by the entrance are quite amusing too.

@Alastair Pink, yes, the hotel is Lujanta. I didn’t notice the amusing bar stools.
Smart restaurant with good service. Prices reasonable for good quality food. 10€ for delicious spicy Grandma Maria’s Pasta.
Toilets very modern, clean and unusually on same level as restaurant.
At top of Chairlift on easy wide blue piste. Timing would need to be precise to get sun, this time of year, if wanting to sit outside. Well worth a visit.

@PeakyB, Excellent trip report style. Like the pics coz they jog my memory better than place names, particularly with rifugios.
Looking forward to the next one

Thanks @PeakyB, your photos have just cemented a plan to visit the Dolomites mid-March if I can get a cheap last minute. Everything I've read and seen suggests it has to be done!

@ElzP, you're welcome and I'd strongly recommend. Obviously need to assess snow conditions as season goes on...but certainly a good base down.
My own experience is that 'cheap last minute' deals much harder to find than in France. Simple supply and demand. I'm told best places get booked up months in advance. For example, the Hotel Portavescovo, Arabba, fully booked out from last week until early March already.

Ah, that's interesting, thanks for that tip - will keep an eye on the situation. We're thinking an apartment rather than a hotel, in San Cassiano, and while there are quite a few available at the moment I'll heed your advise and start thinking about it a bit earlier! Plan was to book Innsbruck flights then see where the snow is...

@ElzP, apartments may be different supply/demand to chalets and hotels. Given you'll avoid peak school holiday times, should be OK. San Cassiano a good village to be based in I think.

@Hyst, thanks. Impossible to do justice to fantastic scenery, food, weather and skiing,
Getting that Post Image+ button thingy to work would help though

@PeakyB, loved it, but many of the shots appear to have been taken on a potato

@Frosty the Snowman, No we'd eaten all the potatoes. They were taken on a pomegranate.

@PeakyB, thanks for your excellent thread. I enjoy everyone's trip reports, but it's especially great to have all the photos! Dolomites are high on my future ski list (had a fantastic walking holiday there in summer, staying in Selva) and this confirms that a winter visit would be a good idea

@Gipfel, thanks, glad you enjoyed. One day I'll master the Post Image+ thingy.
Dolomites had long been on our bucket list. I've been twice now this season. Once with MrsPeakyB and latest with 3 skibuddies. All thought everything fantastic! Can't recommend highly enough.
Trip tomorrow to 3V next week will be a right downer by comparison...I might even post on that 'Moan of the Day' thread
