@stanton, so what exactly is the question? Are we talking overall alpine word title? (So most FIS points in a year).
Or are we talking about a skier that has won the most across all disciplines in their career so at least 1 win in each of the 5 categories (Slalom, GS, Super G, DH and Combined)? .

It is impossible to compare different generations of competitors in any sport. Changes in rules, equipment, conditions, technology, training, nutrition...
My favourites would include Stenmark, Klammer, Girardelli, Tomba, P Mahre, Maier in no particular order (except that obviously Stenmark is top!)
I don't watch enough women's racing to have an informed opinion.

Vonn is by far the most successfull ALL ROUND skier of both Men & Woman & holds the top podium position but how many more than Girardelli in 2nd place ?
