@Mike Pow, which particular spot would you recommend? If Pen y fan, where would you park, and which slope?

I was due to be in Chamonix this weekend, where they're getting some of the best powder in January for years. Unfortunately, my mother's been admitted to hospital in Bridgend, so a consolation ski on Pen y fan would be special☺

The car park just before storey arms if driving from Merthyr. Walk/skin up main path, ski escarpment and slopes facing car park. Winds were W/NW so southern and eastern faces maybe better and filled in.

@Sharkymark, thanks. I might try to get there on Sat afternoon, between hospital visiting hours (I've just realised that sounds rather like some of Mike Pow's old posts - ironic really), but it depends on what's happening here. Do you have any plans?

On the MTB at Bikepark Wales today so that should give some idea of conditions. Will post up if I remember!

Today, I joined a very select group - those who have skied in Wales😊. We few, we happy few. Climbed Pen-y-fan, 500m in 1 hr 15 mins, skied down on 20 mins. Bare and crusty on too for first 100m, not nice, but then 300m of ankle deep soft snow.😊

Chamcham, congrats! I too joined that group today!
Cwm Llwch in lovely conditions, ankle deep powder as you say. Especially the E and NE facing slopes above the lake. Storey Arms looked busier than Picadilly Circus! As did the summit, I stayed on the ridge and the quieter north side of the mountain.
N face of Corn Du didn't look filled in, but NW face of Pen y Fan looked like it might just go..
Photos to follow.

Recce and chatting to a couple of stoned boarders suggested Fan Fawr also has the goods. A bit of a tour tomorrow morning, then

Weather wasn't great, snowing at the top, and the cloud line came down the hill as time went by.
But I was there

Well I would say that those who headed up yesterday had the best conditions! Took a tour up to Fan Fawr. Fog reduced vis to between 50 and 200m. The temperature was 2 deg C at the car park but was fairly isothermal and was drizzling all the way to 700m. Snow had become fairly saturated. The east face of the fan Fawr escarpment is properly loaded: must be close to half a meter in places. If it gets cold and dries out it'll be spot on. I've included a pic of the view from the top.

Webcams show no snow at Storey Arms, but a little still on the peaks. Warmer weather forecast, freezing level rising to 1000m tomorrow, and 2000m by Thursday, with rain on Friday.
@Mike Pow, Croeso gartref.

Was aiming to head up this morning, but the cams didn't show much snow.
Will wait for the next fall

@Chamcham, Ta, had forgot about the snow-forecast job. Traffic Wales had dropped it last time I looked, which was 12 months ago.

Slightly unexpectedly, Snow-forecast is a Welsh company based on the edge of Cardiff a mile or so from my home. Pen-y-Fan is their home 'resort' so it would be a major disappointment if they didn't provide a forecast for it.
Given their location, I really have no idea how they've come to be the most prominent specialist forecaster of ski conditions, though.
