Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What is the current situation regarding travel to Austria

@Scarlet,

It‘s a mystery to me why certain areas are the highest during certain times in one wave but lowest during another.

I was vaccinated (2nd) on 24/06 but wanted to get a booster before Christmas.

Get paid out on the refund and then you can just do a DIY trip wherever with the bunce.
My trip to Fernie for Jan got cancelled with them last Sat I had the £2k back in my account on Mon!

Remember just because they don’t really want to go there now due to lack of numbers or whatever (it could be on the bookings they have at the moment they will make a loss or next to no profit if they run the trip so that’s why they are now offering refunds) doesn’t mean you can’t go under your own steam. Loads of other options there’s plenty of accommodation going all over the place.

I skied today on the Kitzsteinhorn at Kaprun. To start with my Salzburg SuperSkiCard wasn't accepted at the turnstile for the Gletscherjet 1 gondola. And the same happened for the friend I was skiing with. Before we were let through there was a check that we satisfied Covid 2G requirements (a new requirement since 16th November, I believe). Having finally just yesterday read in on my phone a new pdf file confirming that I am double vaccinated I was at last able to get the Austrian Grüner Pass app (green passport) to work and all the lift operator at the gate needed was to check my ski pass and the Covid QR code. No Internet connection was required. That all went smoothly and only took a couple of minutes. I am hoping now that the details have been associated with my ski pass, so that it isn’t necessary to go through the same procedure every time. After that there was nothing to stop us enjoying a good day's skiing - and we even had blue skies and sun by about midday. Not too busy either.

One positive side effect of this new check was that there was less checking being done in the Alpincenter restaurant at lunchtime. Not that that had ever been a problem previously.

@espri, yes I think they must have put a block on like with lost or stolen ski passes maybe to get you to go to the desk and then once they’ve seen your evidence the block is taken off.
Perfect! Good to know you had a nice day.

Sorry just re-read it and it says we can change now plus 10% off new holiday or move it to next year. OR wait till 14 days beforehand and go(if our vaccination status is ok)/change/refund. Now have no idea what to do.

@bambionskiis, I reckon if they are offering you that now then they are already thinking they are going to cancel it. Why don’t you price up a DIY trip somewhere including the flights and see what that comes to for the 3? of you. If it’s cheaper than what you’ve already got then you could move the Crystal trip to next year knowing if you want to go you can DIY it. Almost all flight carriers are offering free amendments so if you choose a Salzburg flight for example you can use that next summer for something if you decide not to go at all.
By the way they’ve not cancelled my trip to Cervinia on 12th Dec yet and I’ve had all the stuff through telling me what I need to do before going so it sounds like some places are working out alright for them.

@bambionskiis, if you do decide to do your own trip somewhere you can do 17th Dec to 27th Dec or whatever so you don’t get stung on the weekend flights.

Sometimes TUI will use EasyJet & easyjet have been cancelling a lot of flights. So can be out of their control.

@Mr.Egg, yes, I booked a flight to Munich with EasyJet for Hintertux last week and they cancelled it within 2 days so I booked Lufthansa instead.
That wasn’t the first time either so I’ve avoided them since.

I just received an email from Crystal re our trip to Zell am See on Dec 20th. Doesn’t seem like they’re trying to get us cancel at all. Perhaps they’re less certain about particular dates? Email I received below:

I think you are correct - the main problem for British holidaymakers will be if they have children between 12 and 18 who are only single jabbed (or not at all) in the UK (as that has been the policy), unless they can have been shown to have recovered from Covid - someone posted yesterday about ringing up a lift pass company in the Wilder Kaiser area (?) to check the "recovery" option.

@Frosty the Snowman, as long as you are fully vaccinated no issues entering Austria for whatever purposes whether you stop or not. I dont believe Austria has a health form. Germany does but it is not required for transit. Switzerland also has one and is required for transit.

@coxy84, that’s just the standard email I had the same one for my trip to Cervinia (with text adjusted for Italy of course) so it sounds like they are going ahead with your trip. I believe they have up to 20 days before departure to cancel it though for whatever reason.

@2waterford, You will need your vaccination certificate (Germany has no issue with J&J). There is a German plf https://www.einreiseanmeldung.de/#/. This is not required for transit but you might find check in is easier if you have done so (you might have to make up a German address so you can fill in the form as there is no transit option as far as I can remember).

If you're transiting into Austria from MUC just show your accommodation details, as you can't fill in German DEA without German address - absolutely no problem at passort control Toofy Grin

Yes there is definitely no transit option on the list of exemptions from quarantine section, presumably because those in transit (up to 24 hours in Germany) are not required to fill in the form. However I have heard anecdotally that the airline check-in process is trickier without the form (which is slightly concerning for me as I'm also transiting via Munich - if we get to go at all that is!)

Lufthansa want you to upload the form before travelling to enable easier check in. You could simply put in an address of an airport hotel to allow you to complete the form.

I didn’t have any problems going from LHR to Munich on 6th Nov. Check in lady asked me for the PLF but I said I’m going to Austria though and she said ‘ah that’s fine then’ and didn’t ask me for the accommodation booking in Austria.
At Munich the border policeman did ask me where I was going i.e. not staying in Germany and asked if I had skied in Austria before, which resort I was going to and the name of the hotel but didn’t ask to see any proof.

I'm travelling with BA who I've been told anecdotally also want the form to uploaded in order to complete online check-in. I do actually have an address in Germany because I'm staying the night in the airport hotel before travelling to Austria on the train the following day (well within the 24 hour time limit and I have my train tickets as proof). However my complication is that I am travelling with a child who, if we did not meet the 24 hour exemption from quarantine, would normally be required to quarantine in Germany. However there is nowhere on the form to actually say this as the transit exemption does not appear on the list of exemptions from quarantine section (presumably because those in transit are not actually required to complete the form!) My plan is, if pushed came to shove and required to do the form just to check in, to lie and tick the 72 hours reuniting with first degree relatives exemption. We'll be travelling just before Christmas on German passports so totally believable, but not actually true so I'd rather not do this if possible.

There is already a nationwide lock down for the unvaccinated, Salzburg and OÖ have just announced the lockdown for everyone, nationwide lockdown for everyone seems likely to follow soon.

That is the big problem the Government faces, if they do lock down the whole country then that will reduce any chance of ever achieving a high enough vaccination rate. Unless they can maybe spin it as lockdown for x no weeks because of insufficient numbers then only release those that have at least started the process.
