Zero-G, where'd you go? we were very unenergetic after a late start and pootled around La Tour for a little. The bumps on the bumps gully were nicely shaped but not terribly big. Which may suit some.
Most pleased to see new resto though...

under a new name, I was at Brevent. What new resto?
I'm meeting another snowhead at the South Bar in a few minutes for a couple of drinks and then straight back to bed for me. Am really struggling to throw this cold (or man flu, for you manly types).

Zero-G, les ecuries de Charamillon, just below the chair or indeed just beyond the end of the bumps gully. Am fairly sure it's new this year (at least for winter opening).

We intend to sample the fare tomorrow. I am already quite excited about the idea of a croute au chevre.
Assuming we can get a table.

under a new name, it's nice, we only had a snack. It was open before as a cafe a few years back but it's much better now. I'm in Reims on my way back to Chamonix

under a new name, I suspect I'll be back at Brev tomorrow because the between-the-pistes off piste seems to be the least tracked out but if I do go to Le Tour I'll look for that resto around lunch time. If you see a slim woman in a dark pink Arcteryx jacket wandering around asking "Are you under a new name," that will be me

Bitterly cold out there today! The board at the top of the gondola said -16 deg C but it was definitely colder than that with the wind chill. I did not last long (I know, I know, rule 5).

So we did in fact eat at "Les Ecuries" and very fine it was too. In the style of the late M. Winner, Esq., the Brunette had a fine looking salade chevre, the Blonde a salad croustillant and I a croute au chevre. House rouge.
All very good, my croute easily the best I have eaten since the demise of the "Kitchen" in Chatel. Salades were of good size and inventive, her ladyship particularly enjoyed the beetroot layer between goats' cheese and toast.
NB: reservation essential.

under a new name, an excellent report. I can see I may have to stray from my usual croute establishment, the Buet Hotel, where their proudest boast is the exclusive use of Beaufort.

Snow on Grands Montets today was excellent. -21 at the top, sunshine in the p.m. and very few people.

Anyone know whats been happening in Cormauyer? Snow forecast suggests more snow falling there today and tomorrow than in Chamonix, but glancing at the webcams it looks similar (ie low cloud and not much snow)

Is Les Ecuries better than the train station in Vallorcine? Am coming out Thurs for a long weekend and have been having inappropriate dreams about the tartiflette in Vallorcine but now it seems I have a bit of a dilemma! (we'll most-likely only do one day at Le Tour so can't do both ...)

jma, never eaten there (Vallorcine train station) so I can't comment.

jma, FWIW Le Tour had an extremely long liftline this morning about 09:40. If you have a car perhaps you had better drive to Vallorcine. We went back to GM and had a relatively queue-free day (2 car wait for the Top at 15:00) and great snow. Why not breakfast at the station and lunch at Les Ecuries?
|
|
|
|
|
|
Cheers Mac46, Sadly no cars this year so we're either getting private transfers or busses. Either way the plan will be for an early start every day wherever we go (Hangovers notwithstanding!)
Anyway, your suggestion of Tartiflette for breakfast is in intriguing one

Another sunny day, another day with no fresh snowfall and the wigglies don't look particularly promising for the next week. It was, however, still a good day's skiing. Stuck to the tree areas for most of the day, which have marginally softer moguls than the open faces.

jbob, so the station at vallorcine is worth a trip?

|
under a new name, definitely worth a trip. It's been revamped for this season and is a little bigger and a lot shinier (which isn't exactly to my taste), but the food is still excellent - if the train were still running it'd be worth the ride on its own

Snow Hound, it's shite at the mo. Hardpack with icy patches on the lower half plus rocks at the bottom. Ok if you'll be on skinny, well-tuned rentals though.
AndAnotherThing.., no service between Cham and Vallorcine, I believe. There is an infrequent bus replacement service. They're doing maintenance on the tracks.
