Only 9 days until me and the OH get hitched, which means its only 11 days until we arrive in St Anton. Looks like it might get chilly next weekend with some flakes! Hopefully not so many flakes that we get stuck on our drive from the UK.

Skied over on Hinterer Rendl on Wednesday this week with a guide. Was very good but you still need to be a bit careful as the cover is still thin in places. Been over to Stuben today but came back a bit early and got into the trees as the visibility was non-existent.

Is that lower down? If so, is it due to rain? Or wind scouring higher up?

It was horrible in St Anton today. In St Christoph it started snowing overnight on Friday and is still going strong as I type this. I'd estimate between 30-50cm. If it stops and the clouds lift I'd imagine it will be heavenly on Sunday. Unfortunately I'll be on my way back to the UK.

I'm trying to decide if I take an offer for a week of guided off piste from Sat 12 Jan. ..
Anyone know how the off-piste is looking this week?
Anyone been off the back of the Valluga recently? Is it feasible? What's the avalanche risk looking like this week?
How about the ski routes? Zurs? Lech?
Any tips would be great!
Thanks,
Bob

gratefulfrog, can't comment re exact current conditions but we returned home New Years Day, had 2 days guiding over Xmas and it was awesome. Suggest that as it has been snowing since, and it's cooling down later this week your timing should be ideal. Not sure re Valluga. Not sure if I'd want to be guided all week, bit full-on I'd prefer 2-3 days with a recovery day in between. There's certainly plenty to go at, av levels whilst we were there were 3-4 and our guide Torben found us plenty of fresh safe powder suggest he's worth contacting?

stanton,
Thanks for that quick reply.
Has it been raining there as well?
Have you been off the back of the Valluga recently? Any info on how it rides?
If I end up coming, let me know if you want to meet up for a beer!
Thanks again!

http://lawine.tirol.gv.at/en/ is updated every day with the current situation, there's no weekly forecast, it's always day by day with a very brief "guess" as to which way it's going for the following day.
As for the Valluga, this report indicates that it was not skiable last week, although there has been snow since then.
There is a heck of a lot more skiing in the area than just the Valluga couloirs, you should be fine!

If you believe the long range forecasts then you might get some decent powder later next week. E.g. Accuweather are saying snow from Tuesday on (but warm on Monday).
A forecast that far off is never going to be spot on, but it's cheerful reading at least.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed, I'll be in the Arlberg from Thursday.

Snow Thursday!
Re. Valluga. IWhen i do I never ski it before mid february earliest. Normally leave
it till April when there are no queues for the lift!

stanton,
Yeah, hope that snow comes! I'll be there from Saturday for a week with a group of French and some guides. I'm hoping it will be great.
Thanks for the info on Valluga. I didn't realize that it was too early in the season for it. The only time I was in St Anton was last year during the huge snowstorm when nearly all the lifts were closed! There was so much snow we could jump off the avalanche barriers! I guess this year will be more "normal".
Really looking forward to it, thank you all for the info and tips!
Ciao,
Bob

Mike3000, Don't know the piste number but it starts at the top of Kapall (next to the small Kapall restaurant) and heads down the red, then swings right then straight down the black, then around to the right rather than going down Fang, round through the trees then big drop off just above Rodelhutte and then swings right and then accross to the main St Anton finish area in front of the Exhibitionhalle.
Think the above is correct, I'm sure others will be along to correct me if not..............I'll be glued to Eurosport at the weekend, should be a great race.

I think it roughly corresponds to 35 ("Kandahar-Kapall") then joining 25 ("Fang") but lower down than the point shown on the map The top is a bit different though, I think the upper section of 37 ("Gstans")? Anyway, you can assume that the most of 35 and 25 will be closed, but I suspect 37 down to the T-bar will still be open.
