Thats why you watch it on the player and ffwd through all the dross, but it is too bad that they are so profligate with their airtime.

I like the slaloms but I would like a little more downhill and women’s gs. MS is shattering all records and I don’t think they’ve shown any of her races this season.

I know it’s called “Ski” Sunday but I’d like a little bit of a feature on the sliding sports, especially given GB’s successes over the past few weeks. Quite rightly Dave Ryding got a small feature this week after his excellent finish, but what was there on Matt Weston plus Brad Hall and the Bob boys? I know BBC likely don’t get TV rights to those but it would be nice IMO for the sliders to get more of a mention instead of watching Ed Leigh and Chemmy Alcott cruise around on emptied pistes.

This week's "carbon footprint" woke bollux genuinely was awful - I thought last week's woke excerpt was enjoyable but this weeks on Scotland before the lifts opened was terrible. Why do the Beeb feel they have to preach
Not one mention of Schifrin or the Men's Super Gs @ Cortina - which were great

Haven’t read any of the previous comments on this thread yet so apologies if this has been covered.
Can I just make 2 observations?:
1) the over enthusiastic hand gesturing with mittens while spitting excessive superlatives is simply painful to witness
2) the first 10 minutes of any given Ski Sunday is nothing more that over-hyped padding BS and photography.
Don’t even get me started on the whole carbon footprint article in yesterdays show.
It’s becoming a painful watch.

Enjoyed the racing though agree that its been very Slalom heavy. I suppose they're focusing on that due to the Ryding connection, though it does feel like they're milking him now and we don't need a feature with him every week. Agree that Schiffrin's exploits have been undersung.
Don't need to see Alcott or Leigh showing us ropey techniques for skiing 'ice' or riding in the park, get shot of that. Also the X Games and Freeride World Tour this weekend neither of which even got a mention! Kirsty Muir picking up Scotland's first X Games medals in both Big Air and Slopestyle is surely more of a big deal that Mia Brooks' medal in Laax (although that is also a massive achievement)
I miss Bell skiing the downhill courses...
Thought the section at the start promoting touring and encouraging skiers to consider their carbon footprint was good. Not sure what made it 'woke bollux'? Climate change is a massive worldwide problem affecting the ski industry especially.

It is, but unfortunately due to contract they can't use any footage, so that limits what they can use - hence the press stock photos of the winners on podium. Same goes for all the racing really - BBC have to buy in the rights to rebroadcast, and often these are done in advance in packages, so you have to pick and choose a bit around what you show, and how much of it you can show. It's how telly works in the modern era, which is why you get more of the Bant's and Bol'x from Chem and Ed to fill in the time slot, while watching the whole race on Eurosport you can enjoy 100% immersion watching the piste techs repairing netting barriers in realtime.
The Scotland bit was good. I've always equated the Scottish mountain sliding options with 'Blasted frozen hellscape' but that looked rather more inviting.

It certainly did look good. The was a quiet warning that other conditions could prevail, and SS were kind enough not to mention when at Cairngorm the shambles that is the funicular or that the area doesn’t sound well run in respect of skiing. I wonder what the 25 year plan the Ops manager referred to looks like.

As it goes just interviewed Ed Leigh for The Ski Podcast today and one of the frustrations he mentioned was the rights restrictions that means they can't show all the events they want to. He would certainly do it differently if he could. I'll put a segment of this interview into Episode 168, going live this Friday and then release it as a special maybe the week after.
re the splitboarding feature, surely this is an essential part of what SS should cover. Remember the snow at Adelboden? Or the cancelled races at Zermatt, Solden back in the autumn?

No mention of skeleton IIRC, but yes for the bobsleigh (still regretting the press trip to St Moritz to watch the bobsleigh that was cancelled due to Covid)

Does Dave who happens to have coloured skin and work in finance not have the same internet that I do and can't access Crystals website? Of course he does. This is box ticking and snowflaking at its absolute worse.
Will I be watching SS next weekend...?

Fair play to Ski Sunday last night, best one I've seen for years. I thought the Woodsy and Nadine Wallner section off piste around Lech was excellent, the rest of the Worlds ski coverage pretty good also, even if Chemmy's comment about Albert Vill was a bit wierd, given that she must have known the pronunciation, having been there many times in her ski career you'd think? The comment about the green issues around the ski programming made sense though, the FIS do need to consider the environment more, and stop the teams having to jet around the world. Makes me laugh how they sticky tape over the jackets brands sometimes, and then forget at others.

I thought it was excellent last night. The only item I could find fault with was that they’d camera’d up Chemmy’s ski, the ski pole and head and I wanted to see the actual course not strange angles of her all the time as she skied the run
A triumphant episode altogether though. More of the same please.

@Agent Orange, Yes, I thought it a shame that they couldn't get the sort of drone footage that they used for the actual races. Apart from showing that she can still ski a bit it wasn't really helpful, certainly not very useful as a guide to the course.

Both races were shown on the BBC red button on Saturday and Sunday morning and showed course layout etc.. at the start of the broadcast. They might still be available on i-player. GS and Slalom races will also be shown from this Thursday through Sunday mornings.

@Chaletbeauroc, again, it's down to the FIS to what the TV course runners can and cannot use during filming on their course. Same as why they don't allow the crews to use the camera points along side the course to film them from the side - so you just get whatever POV cameras they take with them and the bit from the media pen at the bottom.

Ski Sunday seems like such a missed opportunity.
I watch it because, I love skiing, snow and the mountains and it fills a good spot on a Sunday evening.
But the programme could be so much more. The mountains provide literally an endless choice of topics, pieces, disciplines that could be covered and yet....Ski Sunday just seems to do the bare minimum. Tell us about resorts (potentially ones off the beaten track), tell us about how to get properly into off piste, or telemark or cross country, do some gear reviews or new technology, cover the events in more detail, explaining what they are actually about.....
And it does seem to be the Ed and Shemmy show now....rather than a snowsports programme.

@Fridge03, they've got four and a half hours a year to fill, and only about an hour of that or less to cover non-racing content. Unless the show gets more air-time and more budget, I can't see the output changing significantly.
Tele and Cross Country both got air time last year, and Woodsey was OP touring last episode; tech, gear and resort reviews leave them open to commercialisation complaints - people here already pointing out brand logos enough! And they've done deeper dives into the race formats, especially slalom, before.

Really enjoyed this Iain and it is a good insight into what Ski Sunday achieve on a very limited budget. Although the description of Ed's injury had me wincing.
Like others have said it would be nice to have more BC stuff but that is quite expensive to arrange and facilitate.
At the end of the day Ski Sunday brings snowsports to a nation with no natural links to the slopes. Each winter it builds that excitement leading up to the first trip of the year and keeps it going between trips until the skis and boots are put away until next year.

Yes excellent pod Ian. Possibly my favourite yet. Having worked in Courch I've spent a few nights at the refuge at the top of the area and in the backcountry up there. Its absolute paradise. I think extended info on specific resorts could be a great direction to go jn. E.g. Mnsr Irwin and yourself could provide an episode on Courch-pistes, bars restaurants etc. You could do similar for others. Not sure how popular this would be with others but I'd personally love it, especially the ones on resorts I'm familiar with. Thanks for making my commute more pleasant these last few years

Laurie Taylor's 'Behind The Brits' YouTube channel has better content than Ski Sunday and he puts that together between races and training.

For me Ski Sunday does not deliver for its target audience, snowsports enthusiasts. How many people watch Ski Sunday that have never been on the slopes?

No, I think SS should be more inclusive of other wintersports. ski & snowboard cross are probably the best spectator winter sports for viewing.
Most people dont want to watch 50 or so racers go down a piste once, let alone twice!
