Nice today, but icy in places. Bluebird forecast for tomorrow though, so all good.
Had lunch at Chalet Grilette today. Service a wee bit slow (not the food) but the food was really good. Will be going back.

Gorgeous bluebird day today, we went over to La Plagne for a few hours with our 'discovery' pass, and had a heap of fun, really really quiet over there, even more so than Les Arcs....awesome
OH did her first real black today, (she's done bits before) - it was pretty cut up and icy, with scraped ice tree roots and rocks all over the place, she coped really well and did it, not withstanding a few comedy fall moments, brilliant, will try to post video when I get round to processing gopro files.
Les Arcs was in great condition, yes some of the steeper sections got scraped towards the end of the day but altogether holding up well. Noticeably colder today, some snow on the way tomorrow I think, we'll see.
Have to say really pleased were staying in 1600, its so easy to access pretty much anything, and the trees give nice cover, yes its quiet, but tbh we're so knackered after skiing that we don't do a lot after dinner but sleep!! On my last visit I stayed in 1950 whi h is a lot prettier, but I find the skiing less enjoyable in the 1950/2000 bowl, bit samey...IMHO
Thumbs up for the hotel Cachette in 1600, yes its a little dated, but our room is massive, looks out onto the slopes (great fun) and the food, well what can I say it's outstanding, I have never seen food like this is a3 star hotel, we've had lobster, crab, oysters, raclette, just fabulous, still pinching ourselves when we remember that we paid sub £300 HB lol, would definately recommend to anyone.

Yes, lovely day out today. Sadly the lovely tree runs above Vallandry were rather icy, but that did mean we had them to ourselves. Still decent cover on all pistes.
I send Neilkav's comment about the 2000 bowl being a but samey - I've really enjoyed being based near 1600. It's a nice journey home at the end of the day, and in the mornings it's just a case of two lifts getting you anywhere you want to go.

Coming out a week on Sunday so hoping there'll be some decent powder rather than ice!!

Pistes are in good condition. We had some snow yesterday which made things nice today. Snow line is now at the bottom of the valley. There are still some icy patches on many runs though. Le Blanchot was in lovely nick yesterday, but a little less so today. The nice reds above Vallandry are still a bit icy.
Home tomorrow

Jenniper, Agree snow defo made a difference today, I reckon we got 15-20cm overnight, today was a simply fabulous day (final day), spent a good chunk of the day off piste which has really been refreshed, ok its not ankle deep yet but its great fun. Pistes above Vallandry were perfect. More snow forecast for tomorrow night, anyone coming next week will have a great time

Here in 1950: overcast with light snow overnight, about 5 cms. Still snowing now, I think its a googles day, and time to head over for Vallandry, Village Im told, is quite full about 80% room occupancy but that is with a seminar in, so hopefully not stuggling to get into the bars / restaurants.

Spent the day in thr runs and trees at Vallandry, but the best snow was on Grand Col on the way home. Good day, slopes still busy for a mid Jan break but not so much you have to queue for anything. Been snowing a bit through the evening, hopefully will continue overnight. More tommorow.

wooohooo!
6 " overnight ( oo er missus) in the 1950 village, but we guessed there'd be more to Villaroger. The morning looked as if it may be bad, with all the top lifts closed, and hence the lower runs crowded. The Rhonaz drag was open though, and, since only a few people know about it the 5 of us were probably tracks 10-15 down past Solliet. It's days like this that you go to work for. Awesome stuff with th powder over your boots. 3 runs down there, and then the top lifts obviusly opened, and it was getting tracked out. So headed back to 2000
Closed in at about 1:30, by which time we'd done a couple off Acrabulle, and stopped for lunch in the Mushroom. Not that there was much room (...), that place is simply staggeringly good value compared to the rest of the on slope cartels. Fairly poor visibility and quite heavy snow after lunch meant we headed for Combourciere and 1600 through the trees. Mont Blanc, again cracking stuff. Up Cachettes and Clocheret, practically deserted for some more powder fun. Over Arpettes and the sun was out in the 2000 valley, so a quick wizz up Varet and we were done (and I do mean done) for the day.
It's now snowing heavily again, and looks ( hopefully!) set for the evening. Let's hope the legs recover for another day of fun and frolics.

luigi, It may be the Bulle Café as it looks like a mushroom. Either way, the Bulle (just uphill of the Arcabulle lift) offers great value for money for lunch and drinks too. The owner can be a little bitey (most of the staff are cool though), but it's always busy and has a good selection of pizza, snacks and proper food. I like their hot choccy too.

Exactly the one. Lunch there today 8 euros Half pizza and coffee. Oh by the way , bluebird day today skied from Arc 2000 to Mont Albert and back before a late lunch.

Sorry everyone, it was another gorgeous day today. Cold, and perhaps not quite as much snow as e'd hoped for overnight, but the skys were clooudless, the 'between pistes' hadn't crusted over, very few people around so no queues whatsoever. Stayed in the 1800 valley for the sunshine, but skied from end to end.
Yes, the Mushroom is as above However, I'd like give a shout out to La Ferme No, not in Villaroger, but in Plan Peisey. We've been going there for quite a few years now it's a little place on a track out from the top of the Parchay, turn back under the lift, and follow the track out to the edge of the village. Its a beautiful little place, no English spoken, quiet, like a little French place should be, but ski in out, and no cartel prices. Run by the old guy and his wife, service can be a bit slow, but you are a world away from the resort, and it doesn't seem to matter. It is a treasure.
I wouldn't normally share a secret this good, but I want him to survive, prosper even, so if you're out thay way , give it a go.

Whilst this is mostly true, why does it never apply to the Transarc?! Every time I head to it I regret it instantly; big queues, people who think it is acceptable to push in to join their friends, and seats that you can't quite sit on. No queues elsewhere though
On the subject of food, La Vache (very near to La Ferme) is also worth checking out. I've not been to La Ferme yet, will have to try it out soon.

For the 1st time ever we made a real effort to avoid Transarc 2 weeks ago, using Renard a few times and a few other routes. Have to agree I didn't miss it!

agreed re Transarc - we try to avoid whenever poss. Yes I like Renard, but preferred route is skiing into 1800, then Vagere followed by Arpette. It does depend on timing tho!
As one of our group texted home today. "Terrible time being had Too much snow, Too much sunshine, not enough people". Not sure that's going to win any brownie points...

I've been needing to get to Arcs 2000 from Plan Peisey for 10am for speed riding lessons and have experimented with different routes:
Peisey - Derby - Grand Renard
Peisey - Transarc
Peisey - Vagere - Arpette
Transarc is slightly slower and far less enjoyable! They all take about 35-40 mins.
The Transarc does seem a lot quieter in the afternoon, sometimes they let you straight on without going around the back.

I just realised that in 8 days over Christmas/New Year that I never used the transarc at all. No prizes for guessing why. I have to disagree with Jenniper, the transarc is just as uncomfortable in the summer as in the winter.
My way to 2000, well it depends on how much of a hurry I am in, but Cachette, clocheret, Muguet, and pre st espirit is a nice way to do it. OK it is slow but there is some nice skiing on the way

johnE, I really like the Pre du St Esprit way too, though the lift is a bit old and slow. I guess it would cost an absolute fortune to replace though, as it's so long and high too in places. It's a deffo no-no if it's very very cold.

It's not so bad in the summer when you have a mountain bike to lean on and it's just the two of you in the cabin! It might be my imagination but it feels faster too - do they slow it down in high winter wind?
