Couldn't agree more - playing around 1650 today. Awful visibility higher up, some of runs not pisted so soft moguls with ice in-between!

Sunday was hard, lots of bumps when you didn't expect them, then icy sections and hugel inconsitent, flat light at best, verging on whiteout - tough... one of our group did their ACL about 2 hours into the week - big bummer...
Today was much better, firm pistes but generally ben well groomed, lots of fun stuff to find offpiste if needed. Did a big play around going upto VT, then into Les M & St M De B. Snow round VT great, bit patchy in the usual places in Les M, e.g. coming down towards the sunny express chair, and agin scratchy down into St MdeB but overally, sunny warmish and great conditions. Too many movable slalom poles and the blue home in Meribel (Crete IIRC) was yucky, very busy quite bumpy and hard work...
Still it's beer o'clock so who's complaining...

Much better day today. Lots of fresh tracks to be found and most pistes very good. Bit patchy in places down near Courchevel 1650, but higher simply awesome.
Lots of "moguls" (speech marks because they're just piles of soft snow) to jump over in the usual places.

Popped over to Val T today - some brilliant snow over the back of Breche De Rosael, both off and on piste.
Meribel not too bad either, though getting pretty thin in places. Mount Vallon was filled with barely-moving slalom poles - sharp edges are mandatory.
Courchevel looked a little worse for wear. Saulire is best avoided if you have your own skis - rocks eveywhere. Lots of blue ice as well.
Skiing back into La Tania was "entertaining". The bottom two thirds of the red down into the town hasn't been pisted for a while. There's snow, but it's all piled up in huge moguls with sheet ice inbetween

Hilarious. New people just arrived in the chalet after a day of skiing, using words like "disgusting" and "worst day of skiing ever".
They're going to be fun then.

The red always seems to be one of the first runs lower down that get shut though?

Yeah, it is - heavily trafficked and low altitude. However, there seems to be plenty of snow on the sides and piled up in the middle, so I'm not sure why it wasn't pisted last night.

I might give it a go tomorrow if I get there in time, probably get a 1/2 day pass for the afternoon. Can you still get a miini pass that covers the gondola?

Not sure. The bottom third is now closed. It's still skiiable, as long as you don't try and turn.

the 25cm we had last weekend certainly did improve things immensely. Unfortunately the deterioration over the last three or four days has been remarkably quick, probably due to the strong sun and relatively large crowds. There's not a huge amount of real blue ice around, but many pistes are now just a cm or so of loose crud on top of an ice hard base. I think the rocks are coming out because low down there's not much in the way of a base to speak of.
I've not seen much evidence of snow cannon operation either, which makes me wonder if they're running low on water here - it's certainly been cold enough at night to blow snow.
There's still plenty of skiing here, though, so no worries.

I don't think the difference in lift pass cost is enough to not get a full area pass is it?
About 19 euros.

Just finishing up today's skiing at about 3pm in Courchevel and it's horrible.
Holiday makers will still be able to ski the majority of the pistes, but there's plenty of slush around, and the usual popular runs into resort will get icy towards the end of the day.
But those living in the resort will probably agree that these are probably the worst conditions since December. The extra hour or two of sunlight has meant that the little snow there is is melting away pretty quickly. The slush has made certain areas really slow so take care at speed when going over these patches as you could end up being thrown forwards! (which I almost did this afternoon going under the Croisette bridge towards Plantrey).
The snow cannons and piste machines often do an excellent job so best conditions will always be in the morning, but colder temperatures and more snow is desperately needed. I wonder if the resort will be closing early (end of Mar) if this warm weather continues.

So get the first lifts and finish the day earlier!
I go to La tania this saturday, my mates live out there and say its no way as bad as everyone is making out.
If you love skiing, are happy to be in the mountains then just enjoy yourselves, the challenging conditions will only improve your skiing.
Sometimes these threads can make depressing reading. I've skid in pretty terrible conditions, the 3 valleys at the moment is not that.
(my opinion before everyone gets aggro!)

Off over to Val Thorens again today, a bit of a trek from La Tania which was made considerably more annoying because Cote Brun didn't open until this afternoon.
The conditions are much the same as they have been for the last few days. Slushy low down, icy up top. Plenty of rocks and bare patches appearing now.
Still plenty of good skiing to be had, though more snow is desperately needed (and the forecast is good in this regard)

Been out with Le Ski's ski host from La Tania today and pleased to report lot's of good skiing to be had, the run down to La Praz was excellent at around 11:00, C1650 was good and Chapplets was great, some thin patched but excellent snow. Last run down Folereyes (sp) was good but hard in places (first run down at 09:00 was a dream on well pisted cordory). Not as hot a yesterday so less sluish around. Looking forward to tomorrow

Spent last week in Tignes and this week in Val Thorens. Conditions in Espace Killy are far better than in 3V which is showing an alarming amount of brown hillside away from the pistes. Resort runs in Méribel and Les Menuires are definitely relying on artificial snow. Snow-making is currently in progress in Val Thorens this evening.
Despite the lack of natural snow at resort level (Val Thorens is at the natural snow-line, Les Menuires well below it with the exception of the La Masse side), the pistes are in remarkably good condition. We got over as far as Saulire today which was unexpected due to the Cote Brune chair being shut until early afternoon meaning we couldn't get back to VT for lunch. All runs are holding up remarkably well given the heatwave of the last 4-5 days. I have grave concerns about Méribel though if it either doesn't keep dropping low enough at night for snow-making or a serious dump of the real stuff arrives.

Skiied Meribel today and whilst lots of brown hillside on show I felt the piste conditions were OK to good, many key runs which in the past I have found icey were not icey, yes hard but skiiable. The run from Rond Point to Chaudannes was a lot better than I would have expected but by the end of the day the Chaudannes was a sluch fest! Mont Vallon on the whole good but some bare patches on the Combe meant for avoidance measures, still did it in one go (ableit very unbstylishly in parts - probably some would say all) so I 'm chuffed with my fitness level, rest of guiding group came in 12 minutes later. Final run of the day was the "green" into La Tania which was my first time down it and a lot more enjoyable than I thought it would be, expecially the board cross style bends! Now chilling with a beer

Les Menuires now suffering, with 'lack of snow' warnings now across the blue run that leads off the end of the 4 vents, although we still skied it back to the mid-station and it did seem somewhat overly pessimistic. Brown snow but easy to avoid ski-damaging incidents. We didn't dare chance going further down to resort level however.
Headed briefly over into the Méribel valley via the Venturons piste which had huge soft moguls and was great fun. We headed back up the Cote Brune chair though and didn't venture further down the valley. It still looks good up the top end of the valley above Mottaret despite the heatwave, although as I mentioned yesterday Méribel itself is suffering.
The general lack of snow in Méribel and Les Menuires is causing massive queueing problems in Val Thorens. The pistes are generally still fine but all the brown hillside surrounding them seems to be sending everyone to the highest point of the 3V. We returned to VT mid afternoon and descending the Pluviometre could see massive queues at all the main lifts from resort level. We took the 2 Lacs to access the Portette, both massive queues and eventually the Grand Fond to escape the masses. The whole process took over an hour.
Tomorrow we are planning to go all the way over to La Tania so should have a complete 3V report for you tomorrow night.

The queues should presumably be much smaller after Friday, the end of the French winter holidays. But the traffic down on Saturday morning will no doubt be fairly grim.

Pick of the bunch today were Pylones off Sauliare, Venturon and the run back to the Bouc Blanche beer stop, Jeruslam vey slushy but still enjoyable, not many queues at all today but intend to head for VT tomorrow so concerned about krankie's report
