@dazzle109, I just realised you are going next week and not the week of Christmas. Normally traffic and parking lighter week before Christmas but can only assume there will be pressure from Morzine and LG holiday makers getting to Avoriaz. I would hope LG will put on shuttle busses to help getting skiiers to the slopes.

If you're driving then ardent makes more sense. If you're talking about this weekend rather than Christmas weekend it shouldn't be too bad parking but next weekend and through Christmas is utterly bonkers. There is a small ski hire place (Sport2000 as mentioned above) and they should be able sort you out but to be honest, it'll be as quick to carry them to the car as it will be to carry them to the ski shop for storage (if parked at Ardent).

This weekend, at Luton airport now. Only a golf booked, for 3 so not sure of the space for skis, other couple have focus estate so we have options.
We are staying at a locals place so he should advise best way out we'll just figure it out

This weekend has Rock the Pistes - the Ardents is packed, you can assume Prodains is full...

The won't.
There's already a public (~€1.50 single) bus service between Les Gets and Morzine and when the Morzine/Les Gets ski area's been closed in the past it's been up to you to get yourself from Les Gets to Morzine, then switch to the Ardent/Prodains buses.

You'll easily fit skis for 3 ppl in a Golf with 60/40 split rear seats. May be worth stopping at hardware shop on route to buy a plastic tarp to protect car trim from scratches and melting snow from skis.
Am certain you'll have an amazing week.

@patrick!, Prodains was full by 9 this morning apparently.
Cracking day in Lindarets and Avoriaz yesterday. Lots of fresh snow, not many people. Photo is the normally pisted red run off the top of Cases at the head of Lindarets valley.

@Mjit, we saw about 7 Les Gets buses heading towards the village yesterday teatime. Not sure if they had any plans to run a service - as you say I suspect they won’t and will expect people to use the Y91(?) bus.

Today probably busy as locals from region taking advantage of the conditions. Will probably settle down from Monday.

Enjoy! Friday (yesterday) we found Châtel closed so did stick to Avo and the ski tests, now I need some rest (that and having to swim in the Leman tomorrow...)

Horrid (20 mins each) queues for Super Morzine and Proclou this morning. So went to Switzerland where it was veryt quiet but pretty sugary by lunchtime.

Parked at Ardent 2 days. We were late 1st day but got place from some one leaving, today parked down the road and waited an age for the bus, kind of both ways, amazed they don't have more put on!

V excited!! Decided to head out on Christmas Eve for a week and double checked the forecast before booking the flights. BBC suggesting overnight temps in Avoriaz up to 9 degrees this week and Meteo now has flood warnings. That’s not fair!!!

@snowfraise, I think that’s a mistake - the BBC’s French forecasts were all over the place yesterday so I think something odd is going on. MeteoBlue and Bergfex both have freezing levels at about 12-1300m all next week and some reasonable snow. I think the BBC’s gone wonky.

May be very windy according to Bergfex may cause lift disruption and blizzards. Val Thorens has gusts upto 120kph.

@dazzle109, that M bus seems to be a bit flaky - we stayed in Montriond a few years ago and its arrival seemed to bear no resemblance to the timetable.

The latest GFS run looks positive for the PdS - Christmas week in particular looks unsettled with temperatures around the seasonal average mark.

It's France.
To be fair the buses are actually quite good and reliable - at least if you're at one end of the route or the other. Peak times it's very common for the bus to be full by the time it leaves Morzine or the gondola at which point they drive right by the request stops en route.

Back last night after two fantastic days skiing in Avoriaz! Snow conditions and weather were perfect! Friday was the quietest day and it felt like you had the pistes to yourself! Saturday was a lot busier but still great skiing!
Driving down the mountain yesterday morning, it was carnage with traffic and parking!! So I expect it will be a busy week for Avoriaz!!

@Roscoe, Avoriaz was dead today, as was Chatel. Suspect that was weekenders you saw.

@patrick!, Les Gets and Pleney side are open from Saturday - no valley runs open on Morzine side so access up and down will be by the Pleney gondola.

Thanks @andy from embsay, and@Ozboy, - the BBC has now come into line showing low temps and some snow. We'll be heading out for Christmas for the first time then! Guess it's going to be busy.

It was sad seeing the Pleney run bare with small mounts of made snow when driving passed yesterday.

@Roscoe, they’ve made a lot more snow on Piste B which is the long blue home run. Spotted it from the Super M on the way down yesterday. They kept that open pretty much all season last year even when everything was green.

Will they be downloading from Zore back to supermorzine this week?
My youngest learning so don’t want to attempt Zore run.

Les Gets is looking really bad at the base right now

@Ram80, everything from about 1500m up is in good nick. Proclou, the main beginners’ run (once you’re off the nursery slopes) is in great condition (well it was at lunchtime today when we whizzed down it on the way home).

Snowing strongly in Les Gets now, a few CMS overnight in Avoriaz and intermittent snow. It feels like the might be a steady dump. The little we had freshened the slopes up nicely.
If post a pic but....

@dazzle109, does mixed snow and rain count as a dump (meteoblue forecast) - but suggesting 40-60 cms in Avoriaz which would presumably be nice?

Hi All,
Not sure if I am doing something wrong, I am trying to book two ski passes but when ever I get to the buy page on the Les Gets website it lets me put in number of days, start date, but not number of people, is it just a case of trying a different computer, some nack, or is the website not working properly at the moment
Thanks in advance
|
|
|
|
|
|
@dorhar, There seems to have been some issues with all the websites - there were massive queues for passes at the weekend as people couldn’t buy online. Certainly SERMA (Avoriaz) and Ski-Morzine have “upgraded” their websites with predictably spectacular results, including losing everyone’s previous order history.
May be connected, or could be due to the fact that opening was delayed by a week. Are you trying to buy LG passes or PdS? If the latter you can buy from any of the French company websites (but not Swiss to stop currency speculation apparently!).
