Anyone with experience of the Bergheim Hotel restaurant in Lech?
We are booked in there for a week HB from the 6th Jan, I emailed them for a price for a guest to join us for dinner for the week and was quoted 44euro a night.
Seems expensive to me for a 3* hotel restaurant, given the delta between their BnB and HB pricing.
Any thoughts, is that the going rate for a 3* in Lech?

@JimboS, That will at least be a 3 course menu. Bergheim is the sister hotel of Hotel Omesberg which used to have a restaurant open to outside guests. We loved to go there, always excellent.
44 Euro per night is a bargain, in some Lech restaurants you're already paying 44 euro for a main course only....

@Langerzug, ha yes, 44€ doesn’t buy much in Lech. Sounds like a good deal @JimboS,

@Langerzug, thanks for the info, so this is for my daughter from London, she can make her mind up after the first night. We also have friends staying in the Omesberg so she will probably give that try too and compare.

@JimboS, If you're a wine lover: ask for their Schachhuber Blauer Burgunder (Austrian Pinot Noir). So good, and reasonably priced!

@JimboS, I've stayed HB at the Bergheim.
It's a decent hotel and the owner Martin is lovely.
The food was OK but a distinct step down from the 4* sister hotel that @Langerzug mentioned (where I've also stayed)
Dinner was 3 courses and the food fairly plain and not an enormous amount of it.
Both hotels are in a nice quiet location.

@red 27, thanks, I suggest to her to enquire about prices there too. Not sure she will want to pay €44 for just OK food.

@Markymark29, I said the freezing level is hitting 3300m, you asked if that was the Arlberg, I said yes.

@JimboS, The Omesburg is a much nicer dining room too.
On my own I preferred the Berhiem is it's less formal and great value - a real skier's hotel no frills but no faults either.
With a family group the Omesburg is nicer atmosphere I would say
But they're both well run and clean and comfy so you'll have a great time

@JimboS, But Omesberg is not formal either. It's a very cosy, traditional Austrian hotel, with excellent kitchen.

Pretty good deal still available for the week beginning 6th Jan from London. Good discount so must be plenty of space on the Tui flight.
Not so good a deal from Edinburgh right now. When I booked it was £1200 with a 2 for 1 lift pass deal.

I'll be waiting for a lottery win before taking the family skiing in Lech, 6 kids, 4 partners and 2 grandkids would break the bank.

How is it looking today in Lech? Much rain?

The freeze level is simply the altitude at which the temperature hits zero degrees. Look up adiabatic lapse, if interested.
In theory, precipitation above the freeze level should be snow, and rain below, but in reality it can snow above 2C, and higher, if the dew point is below zero.
Whilst a forecast will contain a figure for the day, it can vary, depending on sun, wind, humidity, and possibly other factors.
That is about the limit of my meteorological knowledge!

Having now priced up a lot of holidays (half board, 4*, Crystal) in early intermediate friendly resorts, I don't understand why people insist Arlberg is so expensive. I guess I'll find out in the new year when I'm in Lech, but resorts like Les Arcs didn't come out much cheaper, and Saalbach was similarly priced.

@Markymark29, sure, package deals (generally, not just ski) can vary pretty wildly. I’d just note they go both ways, ie cheaper or more expensive.

Does anyone know why the lift links from St Anton to Lech are still closed? I assumed it was for wind on Sunday but they're still closed. Getting nervous for next week!

@tccambs, most likely avalanche danger due to rain and high temps. Or maybe just because it's a Tuesday early December and raining cats and dogs

Anybody knows good, but not too expensive ski rental place in St Anton or vicinity? After skiing in France last few years ski rental prices in Austria are a bit shocking: almost twice as much than we paid in France. And we are coming from North America, so bringing skis with us is not really an option.

We found the ski rental prices in Val Thorens incredibly expensive last season, the inflation since the lockdowns significant to say the least? What prices were you paying in France 2022/23?
For us Austria's on a par.

@tccambs, Schindlergratbahn was has been open but has been regularly shut for weather related issues of one sort or another (it can be blowing a gale at the top when there is hardly a breeze at the base station). For reasons I dont understand Arlenmädher is always slow to open, it was not planned to be open unlike the other lifts (list is above somewhere). Valfagehr has been open but not today. Assuming it is open no issue travelling from Zürs to St Anton. The issue is the other way where the only option is road whether bus or car. Bear in mind that it is still currently low season and not all the area (primarily Rendl) is open. St Anton especially has a focus on opening for Christmas, you get what you get if you turn up before then.
@inthecold, you might be in for a shock, maybe some tour operators are offering cheap deals to get rid of spare capacity but , certainly as far as Austria goes, the main Arlberg locations are at the top end of the price range even for things like coffee & beer. I seem to remember a mid morning cappuccino & water costing around €12 from one of the main piste side spots in St Anton last year.

@alex_sauvage, The best place is Jennewein though not cheap especially if you want Stöckli skis, Alber & Intersport the same costs. If you want cheaper then Hervis in St Anton or there is a place in Pettneu too (cant remember the name but opposite the church).
