@Harry Flashman, brilliant, thanks. It always annoys me that I haven't collected enough photo of my skiing exploits - but I'm not a very good photographer and I'm usually pre-occupied with staying alive.

Buy a second hand DSLR camera and a copy of "Understanding Exposure". Will change your season, and stave off the boredom.
Can't help you with staying alive. Barely managed it myself.

Finished SWD-II last night, and really enjoyed it. I needed a tissue to wipe the hot chocolate off my tablet screen when I read about the Angry Pirates... Recommended if you liked the first one, and the first one is highly recommended for those who haven't read it yet. Clearly it is more of the same, but what else would you expect?

Received my copy of SWD II last night, I am keeping it in the packaging to save it for my Christmas and New Year trip to Les Arcs. There's so little snow that a good book on the terrace outside the bar will be a must!

@EarthWindandWater, hope so, but I can't divulge.
I've had lots of requests for dedications to loved ones - some very bizarre (and potentially offensive) nicknames.
If you're known as "The Gay Frenchman" santa definitely got your letter.
PS. Still have rooms free at Chalet Framboise 7-14th Jan (discount for snowheads).
Something to look forward to once the turkey slaughter is over.

My copy of SWD II turned up yesterday. I'm dying to read it but I bought it for my other half, so I suppose I should wait until he's actually read it first...

Interestingly (well, for me at least) SWD-I is outselling SWD-II this Xmas, despite my carpet bombing campaign on social media. |
Maybe it's down to people believing that sequels are bound to be crap but if it got a sequel, the original is probably worth a punt?
(btw. Not meant in any way to be a judgement or critique of SWD-II, which I've not seen)

The agents of entropy delayed my completion of said second instalment, first 100 pages was completed the afternoon it arrived but the remaining were relegated to private reading time (you blokes know what I mean). I enjoyed it as much as the first.

@admin, The whole time I was writing SWD-II, I had that exact thought in my mind - "sequels are usually disappointing."
I tried to make 2 a bit different to 1, but keep some of the ingredients.
As few peeps will read it until after xmas I feel like I'm waiting for my exam results. So words like this give me hope:

- Cheers @ansta1
Anyway enough narcissism from me. I don't care which book people are buying, I'm glad for the sales.
PS - If anyone hasn't received their copy of SWD-II yet - let me know.
I seem to have sent one chap two copies which means someone is going to be disappointed.

@Richard_Sideways, Just got the joke. I thought about putting some totty on the cover, but I'm trying to shake off the misogynist tag.
- I've found that LandRover Porn does work well for attracting website traffic, but that probably just says something about my readership.

Just finished SWD-I and about to start SWD-II, both for Kindle on my phone, after stumbling upon this thread and taking the plunge.
So glad I did, @skiingwithdemons you have smashed Warren Miller off the top spot of my favourite ski author list. I enjoyed laughing with you, at you and at myself rather more than I expected. I hadn't previously realised that I am such a complete Ski Nazi😂 Enjoyable, informative, wonderfully relatable and emotionally moving in points too. A fantastic read!
I just wish I'd discovered your book earlier as I've skiied Manzine/Avoriaz for the past 5 years but am already booked for Chamonix next month.
Anyway, I just wanted to express my gratitude, so thank you!

Hi Chris,
As there was *some* snow in Flaine last weekend, my reading of SWD-II was a little delayed. Stupid skiing getting in the way of reading!
It's done now, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a nice balance of more-of-the-same laughs that I was expecting (and looking forward to) and some insightful observations on skiing and on the skier's condition that came as something of a surprise .
I think you've hit many nails squarely on their heads. I can see bits of myself - and not just my skiing self - and of those I've skied with over the years in the pages.
In my best Franglais, Je dit merci, et see vous à Morzine en, er, March. Bravo!

Chris
Just wanted to say a big thank you for writing SWd and SWD II. I have 2 trips to the alps booked this season, one to Manzine on 13th Jan but broke my ankle on 22 dec, curtailing both my holidays. Your books got me through some very slow and dark days during the realisation that I wouldn't be able to ski this season. I have annoyed my wife immensly with all the laughing out loud, and recommended the books to all my skiing friends.
Good luck with Chalet Raspberry, and I'm hoping to make a booking for 2018!
Mark

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. I've been attacked by a Troll over Xmas, so it's good to know some folks don't think I'm an horrendous excuse for a human being.
@Ukformula, "Better than Warren Miller" I'm a massive WM fan, so praise indeed - I must read his book.
@UkuleleDave, You nailed it. I wanted to SWD2 to have the same balance of content as SWD1 - a combo of puerile and esoteric.
- I was worried about all the existential dangly bits I put in - its a bit pretentious quoting Sartre.
@OMF Mark, Bummer, I'm always scared to death I'll break something pre-season. Glad my witterings helped distract.
Ta - for the recommendation. See you in 2018. Although, I always declare "this season will be my last."
@HoneyBunny, pleased he was pleased - make him read it fast - or buy another copy for yourself
ALL: Starting Bacon Run 7 today.
Skis, boot, bacon & books loaded. I've said goodbye to my loved ones: Debbie, Oscar and the lady at the Post Office. Morzine here I come - I wonder if the Land Rover Gods will be kinds?
