Legs recovering after a week of deep stuff in Courchevel. Still lots of good off piste on Friday afternoon, just wish I could handle the steep and deep better. I think pistes will be glorious above 1850 for a while. Even with the record breaking opening weeks they are still firing up the snow cannon to keep building depth.
Nice new 6 seater up Biollay takes a slightly different line and goes beyond where Pralong finishes, giving quicker access to Suisses. When are they going to sort out that Gravelles chair??

Gravelles already is an improvement - it used to be a drag lift not all that long ago...

Off-piste much heavier today, even at 2600m. Pistes generally in fantastic shape. A little busier, but didn't queue all day. A little sunnier, slightly better light

Back home after an epic week last week - some of the best days' skiing I've ever had. Monday was a real highlight, as despite the complete lack of visibility the snow was fantastic, light knee-deep powder over most of the pistes and no one else in sight.

ansta1, about 50m from the top of super pralong. Just a slight skate at most IIRC.

offpisteskiing, I had heard that gravelles wasn't there that long. 6 or 7 years? Surely detachable chairs have been around longer than that.

eithnem, thanks will be interesting to see how it sits, pralong is usually our first chair up of the day.

Poor start in Méribel today. Saulire Express not opening until 11am, and none of the 3V links open until later either. Huge queues for the 3 lifts that are open in the Chaudanne as a result. Poor visibility, although starting to clear now. about 10cm fresh snow at mid-station, but wet lower down. Avy risk at 3

Freezing level has been lifting throughout the day, and by noon it was raining at 1450m (Méribel). Snow getting very heavy on lower slopes, visibility very poor. All lifts seem to be open, but with warnings that they could close at short notice due to high winds at altitude. Forecast is for snow overnight, with freezing level falling again, then clearing tomorrow, maybe even a little sunshine at the weekend.

Lots of lifts shut by 1500 Courchevel side - pretty wild wind. Raining in Le Praz when I skied down this afternoon...

A dusting of snow fell on the balcony in la Tania this evening, but back to rain now.
Lots of wind blown snow in the upper la Tania area this afternoon, good at mid level, then wet below base of bouc blanc poma.
Patch, that forecast sounds good

Trees are white again down in la Tania too, 2 or 3" more snow on balcony, seems to be brightening up in time for first lifts.

Just been doing research on lift passes. Has anyone used the new "tribe" pass; more than 3 or more people and it's 245 for 6 days rather than 260?
|
|

About 25cm of fresh on the upper slopes today, but higher lifts started opening very late, so queues lower down were rather horrid. Most pistes had not been groomed, so were a little choppy. Off-piste best it has been for a week. Clear skies and sun for most of the day. Forecast for tomorrow is fine weather, and nobody on the slopes except me.
stevew, Yes bought four "Trib" season passes

It seems a good deal....3 of us are going to Courchevel 1650 in Jan for 5 days & the tribu 3V pass at 245 euros each for 6 days is actually cheaper than the 5 day 3V pass which is 248 euros each.

I looked at the Tribu pass for us (2 adults, 2 children) but the family pass turned out cheaper.

chrisb, Have a great time
A little busier today, snow had transformed a little; off-piste a tad heavier than yesterday. Pistes mostly good, though some of the home runs very scrapped, even by noon. Weather fine, a little snow forecast Tuesday night, then back to sunshine again. Heard that there is not a bed to be had in the 3V - surely an exageration, but expecting the coming week to be very busy

Had a 10 minute wait to get on the Sunny D.
Piste are busy, with the usual, to much speed merchants and strings of beginners.

Pretty busy around Courchevel 1850 and some hard packed snow in places but could find some quieter runs and still some decent off piste.
Never seen so many cars parked everywhere.
|
|
|
|
|

Less busy today, flat light in the afternoon. some lower pistes very scratchy. Some good snow off-piste. A little snow forecast tonight, sunshine returning by tomorrow afternoon

About 10cm of fresh snow at 2000m, but the cloud didn't really lift all day, so visibilty very poor. Needed to get up above 3100m to get out of it! Tomorrow should be better.
