There's a rise towards the end that requires some carrying of speed, otherwise you can go like the clappers down it if it's not busy. There's a steepish pitch in the middle which probably pushes it to red. There is a looped 'chicken run' around it however, for the less crazy.

As a skiing experience, it could be described as a tad boring, but so worth doing for its sheer length, for the scenery and for the firepit restaurant!

Arrived today in Corvara. Most snow I've seen at village level in all my trips here. Certainly cold in the village in the shade and this evening. Will find out tomorrow how busy it is.

That's the game. A cold and snowy February followed by a constant -1C for the first 2 weeks of March.
What was the nonsense shitehousery enforced at the top of the Sasslong gondola this year? The need to schlep over to that other chair rather than the chair to the left of the Sasslong exit straight up to Ciampinoi?

Blowing an absolute hoolie in Passo Tonale this evening, I can't see much being open tomorrow unless it abates. Forecast for later this week is worse and Bergfex has 125kph forecast at the top for next week.

Just back from a weekend in Selva and I can’t remember skiing on pistes in better conditions. Loads of snow everywhere and due to the cold (but not uncomfortable) temperatures, the great conditions held up all day. Only the two reds off the top of the Ciampinoi mogulled up for the pm.
We did half a day around Selva, a day on the SR green + some cruising around Corvara and then the Sella Gardena on Sunday (including that mental bus with snow chains). Queues not bad anywhere- possibly because we did the SR on Saturday.
Anyone there now is very lucky!

Ski storage, Venice Marco Polo airport. Asking for a friend. Anyone know if and where skis could be stored at or near the airport? Does the official airport baggage storage office take them?
This friend has been known to cunningly store items as large as touring bikes in woods or dense undergrowth. However, as it’s an airport, prefer to avoid sparking a security issue.

We used left luggage in Marco Polo yesterday. One of our group had a ski bag (and hid one of our rucksacks in it as well because they charge by the bag).
It in just out of the airport and turn left- 1 minute walk.
Decent service- trying to look up costs, as one of the others paid, but I don’t think it was much for 8 hours

Be careful with left luggage. It cost us a fortune for 2 days in Venice. Much cheaper to take it into the town though they did charge a bit extra on the water bus !

Another perfect day on the pistes in Alta Badia today. Bit windy at the higher points but nothing to cause any issues. Some of the pistes which have been closed all winter are now open. Snow turned a touch softer around lunchtime to give lovely grippy conditions. Even run 8 back to corvara was quite good with few piles of snow. Generally today was mostly quiet. I can't remember many people on any slope or lift all day (unlike in Edelweiss Valley on Monday). Between 1 and 3 I was mostly sat on a lift on my own. The village (Corvara) does seem a bit quiet, but all the hotel Car parks look full. This is my third trip here now and im still struggling to find somewhere else to try as I feel im going to be so disappointed.

A bit of snow on Saturday still possible then going very cold next week.
The outlook beyond next week is suggesting a gradual return towards more average temperatures and predominantly dry weather which should maintain the high quality snow surfaces.

The return trip to Santa Croce is very pleasant and attractive, though not a must do. Depending on how confident they are the early intermediated may want to download to La Villa, the black down is superb for the better skiers.

Have that earmarked as well. I see a long blue down to La Villa but looks like lots of skating / poling. I’d like to ski gran risa so the download is a great suggestion.

@endoman, the blue alternative to Gran Risa is very slow, I took it by mistake last week when heading to Santa Croce. The lift trip up to SC is also slow but the run from top to bottom is well worth it for an early intermediate. I also loved the restaurant to your left as you exit the chairlift and walk towards the gondola upto the monastery

@endoman, The black (17) down to La Villa is nice - steep and wide - but it ends up below the level of gondola [5]. To get to Santa Croce you then have to go up in a short funicular [55], then walk perhaps 100 yards across the car park to chair [54].
If you come down the red (17) alternative to La Villa, then you end up at the foot of chairlift [57], which connects directly to chair [54]. No fannying about waiting for the funicular, or trudging across the car park.
Once you've gone across town on [54], you have to use [58] to get to [56] because the ski school have put up netting fences which mean you can't ski directly from the top of [54] to [56].

Santa Croce recommend for the terrific 2 mile long blue run and the traditional Refugio at the top for good food on packed but sociable tables.
The perfectly managed ski area of Kronplatz which is covered on the SD ski pass is also accessible by free bus from near the bottom of Sponata.

Thinking of trying Santa Croce tomorrow. Is the blue run to the bottom a difficult blue? Looks fairly steep to me on YouTube videos. Is it comparable to say, the run from Gardena pass down to Colfosco?

The blue itself is fine its mainly a road. However, it ends a km or two before the bottom and the rest of the run is on the red and is steep. I think the top half of the run from Gardena is of similar steepness.

This is good advice. We had a mixed group and everyone loved the red down to La Villa and as stated, it brings you out in exactly the right place to link over the village to Santa Croce. We didn’t go on to Santa Croce, as time was limited, but apparently the red on the opposite side of the village, which is part of the route, is good as well.
The better skiers in the group should try the World Cup Black down to La Villa but maybe leave the others at the ‘Club’ bar at the top of the lift.

@jimmybog, gardena pass to colfosco is as hard (usually literally) as anything in alta badia
the blue bit is a road and then i drops you out onto a red, choose the right line on this and its ok - if you go to the apex of the corners its steep.

Lovely four days in San Martino Di Castrozza. Got back last Saturday. Easy as pie from Treviso. Great weather and snow. Not a big area but we popped up to Passo Rolle for a morning and made sure we got up the cable car at Col Verde back in town plus ski the red run from mid station. Highly recommended for a short break but a week would be pointless. Some of the reds are more than enough for the majority and easily accessible gentle off piste when the snow is good.
