skimottaret, no, I'm glad to have been told, it might tip me into renting a 'luxury apartment in Meribel-Mottaret' next season. (I failed to eat out at all in Mottaret last time - home cooking was pretty good too.)

Rob - any idea where your posse are going to be tomorrow? |
it will be weather dependent, as the forecast isn't brilliant for Friday. If all is OK I think I'm going to around top end of Mottaret (Cote Brune and Chatelet chairlifts sort of area).

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh Le Rastro
Such good memories, skiing holidays before kids.
A few Vin Chaud at the top of Saulire after catching the last lift up, a very shaky descent into Mottaret, straight into Le Rastro "just for one".
6 hours later trying to climb down from the tables in the ceiling, very tipsy in ski boots.
Happy, happy days.

Despite a slightly negative weather forecast today turned out to be pretty good (and comparing it with the rest of this week that's a high standard to reach). Perfect piste conditions and good visibility through until the middle of the day, when some high cloud came in and left us with flat light. A great way to finsih the week, with some nice technical work and a bit of a blast around, followed by lunch, once again, in Rastro. All in all it's been an astonishingly good week, starting with deep, deep powder on Saturday, brilliant blue sky on Sunday, and then a mix of great piste conditions, good weather, poor weather, cold weather and mild weather. And there's more snow coming in, which I'm just going to have to sample from Les Arcs. Oh, happy days!
Here's (most of my group) this week:
And a quick shot of a lovely piste

Mild and dry overnight, with sleety snow (at 1600m) beginning at 7am. Coming down quite hard at the moment.

Snowing hard - about an inch of snow fell in half an hour at Mottaret. Snow line is just above Les Allues (1100m?).

In the Méribel valley, a good day with some fresh snow - a few inches of powder above about 2000m, lovely icing sugar between about 1700 and 2000, and heavy below 1700. Generally flat light, although a few clear spells with sun. Slopes are empty, no queues anywhere. Only the lower lifts open until late morning, with Pas du Lac 2, Saulire 2, Tougnette 2 and Plattieres 3 all opening a little later.

In la Tania. We seem to be right on the freeze line so we have rain or snow alternating several times during the day. Piste conditions are pretty good even right down in the town and lovely once you get above 1700 metres or so. Main problem today was visibility with very flat light alternating with heavy snowfall. Now and again though everything cleared and the sun shone.

Piste conditions today were amazing. Higher lifts opened slowly throughout the morning.
They opened La Masse 2 at lunchtime and there was about 50cm of powder on the black piste at the top. Absolutely stunning
We stopped skiing at 2.30 as we wee just too tired
Anyone out for Christmas week is in for a treat

Perfect day. Clear, crisp, deserted.
And my very first run ever with my 4 year old daughter. Thanks much=maligned ESF - job well done in her case.
What more is there to say?!
Except - pack your chains if you are driving up here. The resort roads are quite interesting (main ones OK). Although the Moldovan X5 driver in St Martin de B'lle this afternoon didn't seem too bothered...

A real bluebird day. The forecast wasn't that great but as it turned out last night's new snow was lit up by bright sunshine this morning. The red runs down from Saulire towards Meribel were like skiing through giant marshmallows. Lovely.

Silky corduroy this morning, best hero skiing available. pretty much every piste in superb condition. Full opening today, and very quiet (expect busy tomorrow). Off piste very good, over knee-deep in places and still powder. Cloud thickened as day went on, and by 16h00 was snowing in Méribel

Snowing now at 800m, and roads around Moutiers have been blocked in both directions by a combination of the weather and a couple of accidents. A 5 minute trip to Brides this afternoon took me 45 minutes. The Belleville valley road is not moving at the moment. Chains mandatory for going up to the resorts this evening
