Hi All
Brief update from the Briancon end of the valley.
Yesterday (Wed) we went up the Prorel early but despite promises the second section of the lift never opened all day. Nothing pisted so we only had a few runs to choose from (using two drag lifts). At the start the runs were powder. Later, just choppy. Good testing stuff. We were tested enough so we didn't venture into the forest. Plenty of powder there.
Today, we decided to have a duvet day. The visibility was very poor and the top section of the lift was out of action in the morning at least. Later it was working.
Raining all day today as well but that should be snow higher up. Looks like the worst of the weather is now past so should improve and the many lifts/pistes/areas that haven't been open til now should finally open throughout Serre Che.
Bonne Fete.

It was snowing hard when we arrived last night, although heavy rain from Grenoble to Briancon, Col was shut so we had to go via Gap.

Rang my friend last night and he seemed to be having a while of time being his first time on skis. He had spent a lot of his time on the greens from Aravet and Serre Ratier. To qoute him "Had about a metre of snow in last couple of days, which is great considering that it was scarce on arrival"
Happy christmas to all those snowheads that are fond of the Vallee du Guisaine.
Owh I can't wait for March.
70 days and counting till I'm in the Alps, and 84 till I get to Serre Chevalier.

To-day turned out to be a cracker. Sunshine all day. Only disappointment for us was that the connnection from the Prorel to Chantemerle was still closed. Some other runs were closed too....notably the Casse du Boeuf. Luc Alphand was open though, it was very icy after the rain.
Some runs (eg from the top of the Clot Gauthier lift) were un-pisted so for those who would normally find red a challenge, they were a much bigger challenge today. Character building stuff.
Up high the off-piste was still powdery. That was good.
That's our lot until we return in 3-4 weeks.
Anyone drive over Montgenevre today? Chains needed? We're heading back to Turin tomorrow but don't want to donate our chains to Hertz!
|

|
|
|
|
Helen Beaumont, glad you made it, we had to go via gap this morning, 3 hours on the road just what i needed on christmas! luckily it as open for the return journey, route eneige but ok!
merry christmas all
oh by the way when we left it was snowing just slightly, so nice to see snowflakes on christmas, possibly only the second time i've seen that in my life!
|
|

|
Kevin Byrne, We should work out a hidng place for chains in Oulx or somewhere like that to be collected and dropped back after the hols... Renting them is a real rip off!
