@andy from embsay, Yes I believe they are. Keen for a report on the remodelled piste from top of Mosettes around to Les Crosets. Hopefully the improvements will also help summer hiking down that slope.

Will hopefully be able to provide one next Friday then, @Ozboy!
We battled up that scree-slope last year in a huge thunderstorm to find they’d closed the lift back down - thankfully after an hour or so it passed and we could get the lift back to Brochaux rather than struggling back down.

I can’t comment on the skiing on the Avoriaz side but today I toured from Morzine to the Pointe de Nyon. The pisteurs have been hard at work and pretty much all of Nyon is pisted in preparation for next weekend’s opening. Low down it was like boiler plate but great coverage, and above 1600m, a few cm’s of fresh snow on a hard base. They have also made massive piles of artificial snow, some around 10m high. The off piste is obviously totally shagged after the rain but the pistes are fine.
The local forecasts are warning of torrential rain and localised flooding in the next few days but I think the pistes will hold up, for those of you appearing next weekend.

Which way do you go up Nyon, @zzz? Do you start from Fys (I think the road’s cleared up to there, isn’t it?)?
|
|
|
|
|
|
@andy from embsay,
I started from the roundabout at the bottom of the Joux Plain, up the blue road towards the Fys and then up the blue to the Nyon Plateau.
My Mrs is just back from a ski around the Linderet area. She reports really good cover with a light dusting of new snow on top of a firm base.
Looking good for trip next weekend..

How was the weather over the weekend and into today? The forecast from Bergfex have the FL quite high for the next two days!

@Roscoe,
Saturday, warm and cloudy. Sat eve/Sun early am, heavy rain to high levels. Yesterday was largely cloudy and very warm. Streams of water everywhere.
Today it’s absolutely hosing it down and 6C in Morzine town.

The Sexpond Snowgauge is showing zero cm now. 7.1º on our garden thermometer.
But hopeful the pistes will be ok - it’s relatively short-lived, the 0º isn’t ridiculously high (2200m?) and there’s no wind to speak of.

No wind over on this side (in the valley/village at least) but it's absolutely chucking it down and looks set to continue for another day and a half before the freezing level starts to drop below around 2500m.

A transfer related question: from previous searches I saw Skiidi Gonzales, Alpybus and GetawayVans.
Any other option for mid week shared transfers?
I plan to send them all a query

Taxi Morzine are excellent and super-reliable (unlike AlpyBus who are fine when it all goes well but there are many horror stories).
I’ve just booked my daughter and mates with Ibex - significantly cheaper than most at €400 return.
EDIT: sorry - just seen you want shared. You could also try Morzine Co-Voiturage on FB.

@drporat, alternatively if costs are really tight and the timings work get the train to Thonon (CHF15 each way) and get a bus (Ligne Y91 - €8 each way) or a taxi (about €75) up the valley.

@andy from embsay, IIRC Taxi Morzine opened up the option of shared transfers last year.

@Timmycb5, do they? They’ve offered me a seat once or twice if they’ve had a small group but afaik they don’t do shares as a rule - they wouldn’t want to get into waiting for multiple flights. Yannick’s far too grumpy…

So how bad did yesterday hit? Webcam's suggesting some piste damage even in Avoriaz! And more of the same rain today? Although the FL looks lower today so might see more snow in Avoriaz than rain?

Lindarets doesn’t look too awful @Roscoe - pistes certainly have snow on them and will have more (both natural and artificial) by the weekend. The warm spell where FL is way up again for a day or two looks dry, so would hope no significant damage before it gets cold again in the run up to xmas.

That's good news! The snow tomorrow and Thursday will hopefully help the recovery no doubt! The weekend looks perfect weather

Meteoblue’s 14 day forecast has it (just) freezing overnight in Avoriaz early next week.
|

The rain will have made a mess of the snowpack but freezing level goes down to 1500 on Weds and 1000m on Thursday with a fair bit more forecast so hopefully that snow will leave a nice layer in top for the weekend.

Whilst it’s still raining and 7C in Morzine, the rain is nothing like as heavy as yesterday.

The Les Gets front de neige webcam paints a much more positive picture than last year’s carnage … the pack (the on-piste one anyway) should also stabilise with the temps dropping from Thursday.
Having said this … the bottom of the Pleney looks fecked.

Yes, can never be precise but Bergfex has snowline dropping to Avoriaz village level at about 1am, MeteoFrance a bit earlier (9pmish).
So it probably won’t be til the early hours/tomorrow morning before it drops to 1500, and later tomorrow before it’s snowing in the valley.

Fingers crossed the FL keeps falling!
How are the Proclou runs holding up? My two boys are beginners but enjoy blue runs so would love to get them lapping those for some confidence.

I’d expect Proclou do be fine as we’ve had lots of fresh snow as well as snow making before the rain. Bottom of Linga is still white

Fantastic weather for the area from Saturday, wall to wall sunshine, following some snow over these next two days.
