I'm doing 14 consecutive days skiing in January, just looking at ski passes and it doesn't look like you can buy a pass for that many days. Based on that looks like a season pass is cheaper than 2 x 7 day passes (the full Paradiski ski pass).
Unless anyone has any other suggestions?

@rdsweb, Thanks never used that before but looks useful for other trips, not this one though it works out another 100 EUR than the season pass.

@Russeh, we worked out that a season pass broke even at 13+ days. This is less expensive than many tarrenyaise resorts and cheaper than it was 3 years ago

The lower Champagny slopes + sides were a dream for powder earlier, and whilst it was flat light the visibility was perfectly skiable for most of the day.
I managed a few shorter runs where I really felt I was floating on the snow, really made it click why people love it so much.
Never heard so many people laughing and whooping on ski slopes, it was infectious!
|
|
|
|
|

Fantastic day out there today, bright sunshine lots of edge of piste powder, best conditions over in Champagny sector the rest a bit firm and windblown.
However anyone arriving today would do well to go to Champagny sector before the lovely sunshine melts it.
Several lifts including Envers and Col de force still closed
If on your own skis probably best to go down to Montalbert by the Gondola ...

Wonderful day with great snow and sun, a cloud hanging in the valley, so as @boredsurfin said before
but when did you pass by Col de Forcle exactly ? Yohan, the SAP employee who is usually affected at Col de Forcle, mentioned yesterday that it was supposed to open today (previously it was announced for past wednesday, but that didnt go through). I saw it turn while on Blanchets this morning (but no one was on it so not 100%sure) , and Lumiplan indicates it as open right now.

@JulieAimeLeSki, We were there around 12:00 it was turning but Ferme fenced off etc Envers was open on Lumiplan but the same, running but closed off.

We came back to Champagny via Col de Forcle and then down Geisha around 2pm, maybe a bit later.
It was a stunning day, especially first thing in the morning when we seemed to have Champagny all to ourselves.

@capability, Only the gondola at the monent, not enough snow on les bois or mont de la guerre.
Although the higher altitude runs from the top of the gondola were superb today.

Another lovely sunny day (and relatively quiet for a Sunday) so we headed to Champagny - went to get Verdons lift back just as it was closed and evacuated. So a trip around to Bellecote to get the Colosses lift back over the ridge! Certainly is annoying that the little drag, Leitchoums, up to the Bergerie lift was removed and the Colosses drag lift as well, both made good short cuts. Fortunately, Bellecotte was quiet so got straight onto the lift but it could have been quite different.

Good you managed to get home boredsurfin - what was the problem with Verdun Sud?
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at the Union. Lovely meal, super wine, and excellent friendly service. We will go back.
And the skiing down to Montalbert was fine. We tried both the witch and goblin run, as well as straight down the red. A bit hard and lots of artificial snow, but still quite fun.
Lots more people today. We hardly saw anyone yesterday on our trip round Les Arcs and back.
Tis a pity we lost those 2 drags, but if Colosses is packed there is always the bus.

@Jonpim, Glad you enjoyed Union - be sure to go back this season...
Verdon Sud - not sure but it was evacuated and didn't run again whilst we were over there.
Witch and Goblin run was only opened yesterday - Sharing around what's there I guess...
At least they opened Envers today and kept it running all day!!
New Year looks promising for some new snow

Weather forecast for New Year changes day by day. Yesterday was forecasting a week of snow starting 28th/29th. Today MeteoFrance is showing a week of rain.
Meantime we will enjoy the next few days of sunshine, and then watch what happens over New Year from UK.

@Tris, i've just come back from La Plagne and they were doing work on the glacier gondola / getting it ready. My instructor, a local, said that they were getting ready to open it but the company that manages things there hasn't decided when exactly, they expected it to be any day now to co-incide with the busy Christmas period.

Thanks for the link, half of the cable cars were running today (the upper section from the middle station) but it still said closed for the day. Nobody I speak here can give any concrete info either, just the same as you said 'any day now'. Keeping my fingers crossed it opens before our last day on Friday.

@Mr Blue Sky, thank you. Hope you enjoyed your stay and glad to see you are looking to return. La Plagne is our favourite resort. We try to come out for the Xmas week each year. The glacier has some amazing views and the old bubble cars were seriously in need of an upgrade, they were very battered.

Well, it was a lovely day skiing today - eventually.
We planned playing around in the Crozats bowl, but everyone else seemed to be going that way. Big queue for Arpette, and then there was a problem with Crozats lift, so we came back to Becoin area (noting Arpette had an even bigger queue) . . . and the place was empty!
Indeed we've often found Becoin and beyond wonderfully quiet because everyone goes the other way. Long may they do so.

davidof, correct. Way more busy than usual Christmas week, which is usually quiet compared to New Year.
And something seems to have happened to the traditional lunch period. Not sure if the 12 to 2 time has slipped (1 to 3?), or has been abandoned all together. Certainly there were still big queues approaching 1pm yesterday.

Ohhh maybe due to lack of snow elsewhere and the holiday dates. Kids getting week after new year off

You can see the top gondolas circulating on the Roche de Mio cams, but not the ones from RdM to the mid station itself, so I guess some final running in/testing/checks are being carried out.
Out there in a few days time, so keeping everything crossed...

@davidof, I think you are correct. Looks like the lack of snow elsewhere is forcing people up to the larger resorts - Montalbert one of the lowest access points for La Plagne did not have a single public parking space free today and people were parking along the approach road - normal for the odd week in February but certainly not Christmas week!

It's definitely got busier as the week has gone.
To be fair the queues look horrible but with the high capacity lifts you do get through in reasonable time.

@johnE, thanks. do you know if you can buy a season pass at a ticket office or does it have to be done online? I think you need a picture for it?

Not when the pisteurs allow a single person to get on an 8 seater chair. La Plagne has horrible queue management and a piste layout that dates from the 1960s (everything concentrated around Plagne Bellecote and Center). Fortunately you can route around a bit via the Champagny side of things.
Anyway a photo of a mountain

@Russeh, last year my son bought a season pass at the lift pass office. They took his picture there with a digital camera. It was no problem. We'll apart from them trying to remember where the camera was.
Tbh it was easier than doing it online.
